That’s right: The Big Day Down is back for 2025! On Sunday 14th December, from 10am to 5pm, we invite you to join us for our annual LARP extravaganza at the iconic Chislehurst Caves. Whether you’re a seasoned roleplayer, a curious newcomer, or someone just looking for a unique day out, The Big Day Down has something for you. What is The Big Day Down? The Big Day Down is our annual celebration of Live Action Role Play (LARP)—a hobby that combines the best parts of theatre, gaming, and storytelling into one thrilling experience. Every year, we bring together the community to shop, play, and try something new in an unforgettable setting. From wandering among traders selling incredible costumes, armour, weapons, and props, to picking up your first foam sword or magical cloak, this event is the perfect way to end your LARPing year (and maybe even start your journey into it). Try LARP for Free Always wondered what it’s like to take part in a LARP event? At The Big Day Down 2025, you don’t have to wonder—you can try it! We’re running free 1-hour LARP taster sessions throughout the day, giving you the chance to experience the thrill of live-action roleplay in a friendly, welcoming environment. Step into the shoes of a hero, wield a foam weapon, and take part in fast-paced adventures guided by experienced players. It’s the perfect opportunity to: Learn the basics of LARP combat Try out character interactions Immerse yourself in a story-driven encounter Discover if this is the hobby for you! No equipment or experience is required—just bring your curiosity and a sense of adventure. Traders’ Market One of the biggest highlights of The Big Day Down is the marketplace, where LARP traders from across the community gather to showcase their wares. Looking for new armour? A new cloak? A finely crafted sword? Or maybe some accessories to add those final touches to your character’s outfit? You’ll find it here. From hand-stitched costumes to custom weapons and props, our traders bring you some of the best gear the LARP world has to offer. It’s also the perfect chance for a bit of Christmas shopping—after all, what better stocking filler is there than a shiny new dagger or potion bottle? An Unforgettable Venue Of course, The Big Day Down wouldn’t be complete without its incredible setting: Chislehurst Caves. Steeped in history and atmosphere, these vast underground tunnels are the perfect backdrop for a fantasy event. Once used as chalk mines, wartime shelters, and even music venues, the caves are now home (for one day a year) to our gathering of adventurers, storytellers, and dreamers.
