The Triwizard Champions
Let’s take a look at this very cool set of wands, one of the many ‘Wand Sets’ from The Noble Collection we stock, and we’ll review the wands included! It comes in a great display case that unique to this set – it’s the only contained case we do, and comes with inbuilt name plaques. Which means the display case can only be used with these wands, unlike the generic display cases we offer. The collection is that of the Triwizard champions – the four who compete to win the Triwizard cup in the fourth book and film: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Harry Potter – This wand is the only wand we currently provide outside of the set, so we’ll start with that. It’s easily the most recognisable wand, as it has featured in all 8 films, in the hand of the main character! This replica has some shape to the handle, which means it fits nicely in the hand, but usually in a particular way. The weighting of the wand is nice and not too heavy on either handle or tip and I don’t know if it was intended but the wand does feel ‘nice and supple’ which is how Olivander describes it before selling it to Harry in the first book!
Cedric Digory – It’s a simple, straight design which is well weighted and in hand does feel ‘pleasantly springy’ as described in Goblet of Fire by Ollivander. Some of the circular designs on this do resemble pizzas, which is arguably correct for a Hufflepuff like Cedric, but unfortunately something I can’t now unsee – so apologies if that’s true for you too now. A cool tidbit of HP knowledge – Cedric’s wand was made of Ash and Unicorn Hair, which is the same as Ron’s first wand – oringially his older brother Charlie’s (before it’s broken in Chamber of Secrets and he gets a new one). Ash and Unicorn hair make for especially loyal and stubborn wands – which is perfect for a Cedric who refused to break his morals during the Triwizard Tournament.
Flur Delacour – The design on this handle is the most intricate, and absolutely gives sea shell and flur-de-lis impressions. Giving it a wave, it is more ‘inflexible’ than the others, as per Olivander’s description in Goblet of Fire. In Harry Potter lore, this wand is made of rosewood (in replica it is resin, like all our wands!) and has a Veela hair core. The hair comes from Flur’s grandmother, and this wand is the only one in the books or films that doesn’t use one of the three main cores, each represented by the other champions – Dragon Heartstring (Krum), Phoenix Tailfeather (Potter) and Unicorn Hair (Digory).
Victor Krum – This wand looks awesome, but is the least like it’s book description from Ollivander – ‘thicker than normal and quite rigid’. But, these wand replicas are based on the films, not the books, and this is a fantastic representation of Krum’s film wand. The curvature on the handle feels great to hold and the carving of a bird head could be a reference to Krum’s flying on the Quidditch pitch. It does sit with the bird head upside down on the stand, due to the weight in the handle, but we’re nit picking here – it still looks fantastic.
