Dumbledore's Army Wand Set
This is one of the more curious wand display sets, in that almost all of these wands are available from our website individually. The display stand is the scroll in which the members of the Dumbledore’s Army write their names and looks really cool. Similar to the Triwizard wand set, it has the names of each of the characters next to the pegs to hold the wands, so this background can’t be used for other wands without looking odd – if you’re looking for a generic wand display case, we have these too!
Harry Potter – we’ve already talked about this wand in our review of the Triwizards, safe to say it’s one of our most popular wands and as it belongs to the titular character we understand why! In the lore, this wand is holly and Phoenix tailfeather (as opposed to the resin of this replica) and is unusual because it shares a core with Lord Voldemort’s wand (the tailfeather of Dumbledore’s Phoenix, Fawks.)
Hermione Granger – The longest wand of the main three and in this entire set (not quite in the whole Noble Collection – that award goes to Gilderoy Lockhart’s wand). It has no clear handle, but has detailed carvings of vines growing up the wand, which I think a handle would displace. This may be a reference to the lore, in which she this wand is made of vine wood (with a dragon heartstring core – meaning Harry, Ron and Hermione have the three different wand cores). Despite the lack of handle, the wand sits nicely in the hand and despite its length, is light and thin. It is very easy to replicate the ‘swish and flick’ needed to cast the wingardium leviosa spell.
Ron Weasley – This is Ron’s second wand, which he gets after he breaks his older brother Charlie’s on the Whomping Willow in Chamber of Secrets. It has a similar look to Harry’s wand, in that it shows the ‘this comes from a branch’ look but isn’t as ‘nobbly’ as Harry’s. The un-finished part is also shorter, and leads into a nicely finished wavey pattern that goes about halfway up the wand. This does, however, leave it without an obvious handle which doesn’t lead it to a natural way of holding it at first. It does feels sturdy in the hand when waved, however. In the lore, this wand is made of Willow and Unicorn Hair – the same core as Charlie’s old wand.
Ginny Weasley – Ginny was the one who came up with the name Dumbledore’s Army, and so it’s only right that her wand makes this set. This all happens in Order of the Phoenix, were Ginny becomes a much more prominent character. This wand is delicate but firm, and whilst there is no handle per say, there is an obvious place to hold the wand as denoted by the pattern carved into it. The rest of the wand is smooth and in contrast to most of the other wands in the set, is black. The wand in the lore is made from Yew, although we are never told what core is used. The weighting and design of the wand makes it feel good for firm flicks, but not so much a swishing movement.
Neville Longbottom – This is Neville’s second wand, he used his father’s wand previously before it was broken in Order of the Phoenix during the battle at the Department of Mysteries. In the lore, both wands were Cherry and Unicorn Hair, and this is believed to be the last wand Olivander sold before he was kidnapped. This wand has a clearly defined handle by dint of being a different colour. The handle appears to separate into three bits and twist around itself. Whilst it looks a little odd, it fits nicely in the hand, and allows for nice movement of the wand itself.
Luna Lovegood – This wand is Luna’s first wand, and this set is the only way of getting it (the individual one we sell is her second wand.) This was is confiscated by death eaters when Luna is held hostage to keep her father’s paper (The Quibbler) from printing things they didn’t want. It has no obvious handle, and has engravings of acorns and oak leaves, leading us to guess that in the lore it was made from Oak, but it is never explicitly said in either book or film. The wand, despite it’s length (nearly as long as Hermione’s!) does fit behind your ear, so you can store it just like Luna does! It’s length and weight does allow for swishing and flicking, just like Hermione’s.
This set is a fantastic way to get some of the most popular wands we do. If you’re looking to start a collection, this is a great starting point of getting some of the coolest wands.
