Hi guys,

So how do you get involved in playing HotE? I bought a copy of the copanion a while back and am still pretty much none the wiser as to how to get involved. So I thought |I'd bite the bullet and just ask...

IIRC Alan Morgan runs the HotE system. Do I need to e-mail him directly?

I'd suggest going to http://kingfits.proboards99.com/index.cgi which is a forum set up specifically for Heroes, by Alan (who runs it).

There's some stuff written up there about how things work, and a few threads where other people have asked for help with getting started that may provide some insight.

This particular section of the Heroes Board has some info on playing:

http://kingfits.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=orders

This thread is a particularly good one as it got lots of questions and answers on starting up:

http://kingfits.proboards.com/index.cgi?bo...&thread=708

The basic rules are to be found in "This Mortal Clay" I'm not sure if there are any copies down the caves at the moment.

Parts of it have been posted by Alan on the Heroes board along with bits updated.

Best thing to do is join the Heroes Webboard and ask questions.

I was going to start off with my circle character but may be persuaded into playing my Mortai Paladin as well which I assume is what you're getting at Paul tongue.gif

Right....it looks pretty important if I'm going to play that I should pick up a copy of "This Mortal Clay". It doesn't appear to be listed on the Primal Forge website thoguh.

Suggestions anyone?

Ask on the heores board.

I'll see if there is a copy of it there if so I'll send you the link. It is in the process of being updated and enlarged to cover all the new stuff that has evolved through play over the years. It, like Labby, is very much an evolving game.

On the Heroes board in the section 'Companions & Publications' it has This Mortal Clay & Lair of Life published.
They are not completely up to date (stuff has changed through play) but they are free and a good place to start - certainly enough to get you up & running for a first turn.

You do not need Tags to have fun - as Alan I think would be the first to stress: a good plan/idea will get you a long way
You will pick up Tags through play - but I really would not worry initially.
The only real 'stat' decision I would suggest you want to make fairly early on - is whether you want to be a Ritualist or not - as that can be quite defining (ie. if you have Ritualist tags, you can not normally get Warband tags.

The main thing I would suggest, is less of a grasp of the rules & more a grasp of something you would like to do/an area you would like to pursue. You can quite easily submit a Trad turn (text) as a series of bullet points - with virtually no knowledge of the rules.
As others have said - looking on the Heroes boards will help you - take a look in the 'Orders' section for BBBs helpful articles on such things as 'how to write a trad turn' etc.

I would not be daunted by any perceived complexity - it is as simple or as complicated as you want - some players have erred on the side of complexity with lots of tags, structures etc. but others enjoy no stats and narrative and get what they want out of the game too.

Best way to start I would suggest is a simple Trad turn with a clear goal/aim.

Hope that helps,

Giles.

If you want to play your Circle character and are keen to get involved in current baronial plot you are welcome to submit a join turn with Scheinder, my Circle character, to get you involved.

Cheers Chris, that's well appreciated. I'm just having a read through the basic stuff on the HotE forums and getting to grips with it. I can see where Giles' and BBB's advice comes from regarding writing turns....it makes alot of sense. I may well take you up on your offer though.

Likewise I have my Ritter Drachyul with his mounted heavy cavalry warband that you can also come along with should you want. We could always do with a ritualist to protect us as we feed on the enemy.
