Howdy folks,
I am rapidly approaching the first time I've been able to pitch for a 10k gift and I wondering what people enjoy doing with them. Do you like to diversify or go even deeper into your existing strengths? Long, in depth chains of abilities or short punchy one liners? Whats your favourite one youve got passed? Cheers! Heather |

I have always said there are two types of 10k gift.
1: enhance your main class or classes this will make you very powerful but down the line 15k+ you will start to run out of stuff to get. Good for a i will take the character out of the folder for a theme day once in a while. 2: Get a new class/race/theme to add to what you have, generally more expensive and weaker in the short term but means it would take you to 20k - 30k easy. Great for you plan to play a lot as the character. Miles -------------------- The game is not always about balance

I have three 10k characters, the first two made it in 2009...neither of those have 10k gifts.
Only written one 10k gift and that was to improve a static class based ability from 1st level and it's amazing. They can do almost anything, the best ones are original for sure but there is limited design space seeing as the first 10k gift happened when I was 18 years old (I sat in on the points session it was agreed in) and that was 27 years ago... The key is what you want to do be able to do in the post 10k world and how to achieve and facilitate that. -------------------- Gordon Court

I tend to try and enhance what my characters are/do/want to be. Sparek is a cocky Fae king who likes fighting gods, so I made him a god on his plane with innates of drawing his power when he manifests outside it.
For Joshua who hasn’t quite hit 10k it was harder to pick, but I’m currently thinking that he will be consumed by his religious crisis and rebirth/ascend using a 10k gift. Format wise, 3 part status with some one liners/add on spells etc is the way forward from what I’ve seen. Jack -------------------- QUOTE(Jack) Only the good die young. I’m pretty sure Carlo was the first person to ever have a 10k gift, maybe tap him up for ideas.

I’m pretty sure Carlo was the first person to ever have a 10k gift, maybe tap him up for ideas. S Please ignore Sam. He got the hump with me earlier for being slack on analysing his spreadsheets… #highmaintenance I think 10k gifts should be appropriate and have flavour. The definition of them was always ‘break a system rule’ and people have done various things. Or some people use them for a short and sweet stat boost. My Andric one was spiritual guru - a super priest type multiclass. Not that good in retrospect, but it made sense Gully was ‘the power of 3’ and broke into 3 stages. Have a third colour third sphere third devotion and counts as 3 witches of all 3 alignments Remstar was divine heartbeat. It never caught on but my beneficial stuff lasted 15 minutes rather than 5 base. What would you like in yours? I guess is the question. |

His 10k gift was effectively a path where he doesn't lose Neutral miracles / Grey & specialist spells. Phil -------------------- You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!

Have had 3 * 10k gifts. First one was to enhance my rebirth beyond the system max for ISP, and pts retained. Seemed like a good idea as a 13k frontliner on a no max myths!
Other two, I followed the 3 tier status format, and really worked well for me. And allows a bit of variety in approach. Like for Sirac, the main part of my 10k gift was definitely all my teaching scroll stuff, and ability to teach my non standards. Which thematically was my main focus. But I did get a couple of decent stat boosts too from the other two tiers that have helped. Hive, was 3 boosts to stuff I'd been working on up to that stage anyway, that help me to survive the post 10k system as a squishy caster. Was about 2.5k all in, so like a good MR it's a big old chunk of pts, but sets you up nicely for the future. Cheers, Sean |

For me its always been about being able to do something different/extra or break rules. Always tend to be build on things that have happened IC over the char’s lifetime. Format varies. For example:
Aurora built on a neuronic comms myths item to get 1st class seer with no restrictions despite being a bracket locked battlemaster. Blend was power of 3 (which Carlo then stole - which is probably fair as I stole his power a bunch on myths) - 3rd colour (green even though evil), 3rd mj sphere (and can get mj mj miracles even with devotion to another sphere), 3rd class (assassin with a cudgel - again building on bad guy myths item). Then some m/c and status bits that follow on from that. Mallerstang’s built on his relationship with the Countess of Truth & Lies to get spiritual ebony/ivory wizard with spells being miracles. I have various others as other chars (eg warlock has m/c warrior priest and all power is combined into a single pool, Nex has an ‘Arm of the Empress’ assassin m/c thing, etc). In general something that gives you a cool extra hook or is something you couldn’t otherwise get would be my aim. Something you can build on and use as a foundation for more stuff later. Huw |

My personal approach is generally to add a string to the bow. I've had four passed for my three 10k characters:
The first, for Owl, is so old and the system has moved on so far that it barely counts as a 10k Gift nowadays. That was Tri-Class Brown Wizard with mana as Witchdoctor. Counts as 10,000pts lower for Wizard buy as (which I imagine you could easily do Multi-Class with creative sacrifice of path slots and a restriction) The second and third were for Anath one being "Can only be harmed by Magic or Spirit and may buy up Elemental Lord without disbenefit"* the other, which I bought, was "regains 100% Vitae"** . Neither very exciting The fourth was for Tsu-Ling and it took me until 18k to work out what would be useful for him. This was his Path of Divinity to give him all power base spirits which is pretty nice and has opened up a few other cool options. BBB *Of these one is virtually a published ability and the other I've seen as random pts apps **with comedy side effect green penned on by Lee -------------------- Grey's Law: Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice...
PS, Yes, I know my PM Box is full. Email me instead... (Which you can do through the forums email) |

As my Archer, Owen, I had a very simple 10K gift. Act of faith vs anything lasted the adventure. Surprisingly useful. (The beast that required an Act of Faith for each step after you hit it for example.)
As Samuel (part of Owen's rebirth) I have "Rockskin vs all blows" as a 10K gift. Basically as I can't put a crossbow in the way to parry. I have to be actively avoiding the blows. |

When I wrote mine, they were either about ensuring (as best I could) the longevity of a character and/or adding a new dimension to do something(s) I had wanted to be able to do but could not justify (nor blag) a way of being able to do. (Such as Ki versions of Neuronics and auto-res of a very hard to res character). -------------------- ------------------------------------
