Agree with Jasper and Neil. Indeed, if you want to do it from scratch by all means be the heir to a scrappy little Barony (to avoid telling people that you're the King of Eisenstein or whatever), and build it up from there.
There have been all sorts of self-proclaimed royalty over the years, and there's no reason beyond the mirth of your fellow mercenaries not to claim whatever you want within reason. Rule 7 applies Stuart |

Just to make a few clarifications:
* The CC role is independant to Hote but most definately interacts with it * You should be able to achieve most things via either method, including baronies etc (although HoTE is clearly more suited to the use of armies etc and LRP clearly more suited to adventuring groups) Andy -------------------- Damn I love muggles

When I started Mercutio I bought the noble status-y thing, designed a little place that wouldn't interrupt anyone elses fun and said I was Baron of there. I got Pete's permission as 'Lead Omacron' of course, realised that he was in Alguz so put it near there.
If anyone had ever asked I would have said I was the Baron of Prince's Watch (which is what I put in my amusing list of titles), and not a Baron of Labyrinthia or some such. Nobody ever did. I chose Baron because it sounded cool. I have had a lot of mileage from titles over the years, but all of it has come from roleplay and I suppose it helped that mostly I wasn't trying to 'lord it over people' (as it were) - infact I played it down for a long time. Nobody, heroes / Live / both players has ever questioned it, nor has it ever been a problem. Chris C |

Chris C You've spent the points as it were so a lot less of an issue really. Plus you started long before the rules got slightly more ridgid as it were But yeah you're right. If you really want to start a character who's a southern Baronies noble, you could always apply for a variation on the published nobles statuses to show this, possibly with a "may not have an Imperial noble character" restriction.
Or even, by my understanding of the way the background works, you could just buy the published Noble Repudiare as a Baronial or Ishmaic human - or as a Farfolk. They're all descended from the Magiocracies after all... Lucy |
