Hi Huw

When I've run it previously, I've never thought of using it to cast Weaken the Body. Rather it has taken down spells / powers that grant extra life, extra AC or extra life (or better reductions etc.). For clarity, the focus on the published power tagged on is there to help the damage grade land more successfully. It was poor wording on my part to state it would try to increase them as this could be taken to mean increase them beyond the original damage grade called.
I'm specifically keeping it a bit fluid so won't publish a list of what it can do or how, beyond "anything published". What I will say is you may think of things it could do that the BBing ref will not. I'd let them do this without any help and rest assured we will lean on making it fair and easy.
Its really here for people that are immune to Divine six because it was delivered by a sword and they have a rank 14 glyph up of immunity to swords

Welcome to the 2024 15K “Constellations”

This will officially run 25th to 28th July at Hamlet Scout Camp in Maidstone (see below for notes on Wednesday evening)

Some introductory comments first:

This event is Deci-focused. Characters not from this city or with goals unaligned to the city will find themselves with little in the way of plot hooks. I would also anticipate the rest of the party may “question” harshly your attendance… fair warning!

Rob and I are writing an event for the party and that will focus on Deci and its rural environs (given we can’t phys rep a city easily). We have read backgrounds and looked at the histories to write an immersive action-packed and compelling storyline.

Lead up and EL time in:
There is one lead up on the 8th June. No issues if you can’t make it but it is your chance to meet the other players and get to work together. The intention is to call time out on the Saturday evening and for time in to be from that point (with a new BB, no concerns in this regard) on the Wednesday evening.
Wednesday evening will be full time in from about 8PM. If you can’t make this, do not fret, none of the core adventure will be run at this time. It is an opportunity for the party the gel, investigate and get ready for the next 4 days. Just turn up when you can and enjoy the extra time to engage in the plot and event.
Thursday will be full time in from when you wake up – however, we are specifically stating here that we not starting “the action” before 9AM. We are setting this time to allow for early arrivals to get IC, any monsters to arrive and for breakfast.

Apps, contracts and items
Please ensure all apps, item cards and contracts have been shared with the refs prior to the event. Anything we haven’t seen, you can’t use – its that simple.

Alcohol
Its your holiday and you are there to have fun. However, others are also there to have fun and if you drink to excess, it may detract from the fun of those around you. We hope you will police yourselves, but we reserve the right to ask / insist anyone to remove themselves from the game if they have imbibed a little too much. Please just sleep it off and come back when you can – no grudges, no worries.

Ref calls and raised voices
There may be moment of high tension. There may be situations in which the stress boils over and voices get raised. I like to think I’ve matured (Rob is already mature) and so ask that we all take a breath and have a sensible discussion if anyone has a difference of opinion. After this, you may still feel the outcome isn’t right but rest assured we will have listened to your inputs and tried to find a fair outcome.

Event non standards
Eternal – has no duration
Fleeting – lasts 30s
Ritual – is magical, spirit and EP in nature. It starts from its obvious powerbase and the other 2 are added. Added spirits are always goodly. Added mana is always white and gold.
(so a “Ritual Spirit Bolt” is white / gold mana, neutral spirit and EP, while a Ritual Firebolt is red mana, flaming, goodly spirit and EP).
Sever / Loc to zero – (from a weapon blow, spells as published) work on crits, you may not apply any reductions unless you have a minimum 1 to sever (at which point % and fractional may be applied). They inflict your full loc not what you have left.
Holy Damage – white / gold magic, goodly spirit and physical
Pure Holy Damage – white / gold magic and goodly spirit. This is pure and does +1 grade if you are evil
Mortal Blow – is infinite damage. Justice applies. Powerbases will vary.
Slayers – as per Demon Slayer MC but works on any target. Starts physical then cycles through the powerbases until it finds one that hurts you. Will do “Miracle damage”, “ranged damage” “area effects” etc. but cannot do a named published spell / miracle etc.
Divine – is from a divine source (should it matter). It does every and any type of damage you can possibly think of, changing as needed to hurt you (so if immune to anything that contains X, it doesn’t do X for you. If your last hit is different to other hits, that blow will change to inflict that type as required). In addition, our flavour of divine will cut through all AC and DRs unless the relevant celerity / non-standard is owned. Finally, our flavour of Divine also adds to the damage grade any published ability, spell, miracle, evocation or neuronic etc that will help the blow hurt you more. So, if you are in a Greater Manaform, it will do specific colours and attempt to dispel your spell with a dispel 20 on the blow. It would slowly dispel your Ivory Warriors (or do a Zeniths on a blow), do a divine cure wound on your torrent or whatever it can. It won’t add a damaging effect to hurt you more unless that is what is required to make the damage grades work. If there is no set of damage type and published effects that can hurt you, please come and see the refs prior to the event and we can chat (or expect your “super hard to hurt” form not to work on the day)
Diabolic damage – any damage you sustain is uncurable while the monster is being played / still in the encounter (the monster running off, hiding or shifting off dungeon all stops this effect allowing curing to work)

I have built up a collection of scriptures which are now available for your use.
I apologise that I must seek compensation for such but my personal funds are much depleted. Rest assured, I believe my writing is far cheaper than you might find elsewhere

Below is a list of scriptures currently available. Huge thanks for the constant effort from Tiffer, Tim, Fi and Jez throughout the day. I really liked the roleplay encounters and how you brought many parts to life. Its amazing how a hug can change an encounter... we avoided a lot of fights (sometimes unintentionally) by talking to a lot of parts and not simply rushing in.

Big thanks for the devious Mr Dale, who once again found ways to challenge the party and make us stop and think.

I thought the party were excellent and we really gelled well in the afternoon to not only catch up but do a little more than we needed to. I've put in a sheet for a "hold the line" ability... who knows for next time!

Big thanks from me to Chris, Tim and Adam who brought the story to life yesterday. They all played the parts brilliantly, able to make them fun and dangerous at the same time.

A further thank you to Tim T for the additional lighting props and to Chris and Adam for switching from playing to monster.

A final shout out to the players, who were brilliant. Making you run from the back of C to the tavern and back in a relay race was a risky encounter but despite the complaints, the five participants stripped down and stepped up. Seems this may have been my most harsh statting of the 3 adventures...

Arthur Herring sat quietly in his cell, manacled in chains woven with rites to subdue any supernatural power.

Strange feelings swirled around his head - relief that it was over mostly. Deep down Arthur understood the need for mercenaries, for the stability and protection they brought. He also understood his plans had always been flawed and endangered the ordinary population but he had needed to do something... anything to draw attention to the evolving nature of the mercenary income streams and the threat this brought to ordinary hard working people of the land.

He had really liked the group that had stood against him - resolute and clever, they had worked hard as a team to unwind his plans. He was glad they had won and he had not killed any of them personally, although the deaths of 17 mercenaries over the last 3 months was not something he could hide from.

What would become of him, he wondered - not an outlaw, unsure of which laws he had actually broken... his church of the Grull was not on Primus, plans had not manifest to the point where the various departments had taken interest. All the imperials really had was the far-fetched writing of a potential future as scribed by Hive and his unwavering intention to start again if released.

Unseen, in the shadows of his cell, a darkness detached itself and moved to behind Arthur. The blow was sudden and deadly, almost decapitating him. a gem was placed upon the corpse and soul extracted and obliterated, then the body was turned to dust and even that eradicated. The shadow formed from etheric into something of substance, taking a physical form - that of Arthur Herring and slipped on the manacles, replacing Arthur with no one wise to the deed.

Only one person received news of this outcome, the merchant king that had ordered the hit. There would be no rehabilitation for Arthur, no opportunity for him to gain freedom and start again. The man had cost the king grulls, and that was unforgiveable. A king does not keep his crown by letting threats go unanswered. No one would ever know - whether killed by the nobles, left in prison or set free, the fake Arthur would disappear into obscurity, never to be heard of again and the real one was dead forever. A fitting end to one that would threaten the flow of commerce.

The menace applied to create the system effect on businesses has been countered successfully. I'll try to get something official in the end Almanac but as per my original discussions with Lee, the 3 x caves adventures have been successfully completed.

Thanks to Ian Armstrong for the original interest in resolving this, to the monsters that brought the campaign to life and the players for being ever willing to embrace the carnage and enjoy the plot. "Economic warfare against the mercenary community" is a phrase that will stick with me for years to come.

I list props in red as the first line after the encounter title

Hoz has pointed out I need to number my pages

I always put dying effects last and bold / red them to try to ensure they are identified by monsters

Monster stats I put in the an outlined box with a grey background, always in the same format

Finally, having the adventure written well in advance means I can email it to the monsters / a-ref for them to read. Final stats may change in the week leading up to the event as players come and go but the main plot and adventure themes are there

I print 4 copies for use on the day and always do a map with the encounters marked upon it

Only 1 addition to those you have seen before:

Under the effects of a Rite of Distraction – one cannot focus on activities that require full concentration, specifically ritualizing. Other things like total heal are unaffected

Power Words “Lack of Wealth” – is a bronze mana level based domination effect. Causes all targeted to attack whoever they perceive as having the least wealth with a single attack in the most efficient and expedient way possible. Think of it as a snooty noble batting away a horrible beggar that is invading their space. Effects 8 lvls (unless specifically cast at a higher level)

Unholy Word “Grull” – Mantic neutrally aligned Unholy Word inflicts 60 TBLP as a base. This is reduced 6TBLP per 10ISP personalized to you (so not potions, scrolls etc but anything personalized. This does not include guild items). It is mantic with lowest SAC / MAC applying at 1:1 and neutral spirit / grey mana

Grull + Damage grade (“Grull Quad”) – goes down by 1 grade (base) for every 50K of stuff (not items) you have on you at the point in time you are struck. It is neutral spirit, physical and grey mana

Wardpact Items – you break this wardpact if you use an item weapon to hit them, use an item of +3 CLs to cast a spell against them, or even defend yourself with a magic shield or armour etc. Any use of items is regarded as you breaching the wardpact. Breach of wardpact results in death. You are aware of this wardpact IC upon its voicing.

Any interaction in which you benefit from the use of an item vs the person wardpacted results in you detrimentally breaching the wardpact. So, if you are wearing +0 magic (item) armour and they hit you and you use the armour to defend yourself, you have breached the wardpact. Life items add life last, mana stores can be used last etc.

Fellow guild members,

It seems things are coming to a conclusion. The altars lie smashed and broken after your second foray into the Temple of the Grull. The wardpacts protecting Arthur Herring are sundered, leaving him vulnerable.

I understand you once again quest in but a few short days to unweave his acts of financial terrorism on the mercenary community.

In preparation for this, I have secured a teleportation device to take you to 2 places of your choosing, decided when it is used. It has a bit of a kick so I'd decide who is best placed in the group to use before enacting its powers.

Once again the tabards will be available, again further empowered but I will be at home doing paperwork so unable to attend.

Move very hard for me to be honest. Locking in caves dates always a challenge with home life. I'd be happy to stat for a smaller party and run on the current date. Just need a few more players and a monster or two.
Last time we went down to 5 and ended up with 9 (plus 4 monsters) so I am hopeful

It will be a fully stand alone event for the enjoyment of anyone who is yet to participate in dungeon 1 or 2 but will also have a strong continuation of the storyline.

I see the argument that it should be assigned but personally I like to have a stash that is yet to be allocated. I am not always sure who I am playing that year so having a tombola stash for that last minute extra thing works for me. The other reason they are sometimes unassigned is for when other players need support and one of my characters could hand over gear or grulls - I'm not sure immediately who will want what so keep sometimes in reserve that I think none of my characters will use. I'm waiting for the right interaction to give it away.

Horses for courses and I am sure others will have opinions on this but meh...
