Edicts of the Circle Options

The Edicts that were forumlated from the Arathelian Accords, those that refer to the Circle, are:

1. No supernatural power shall be left to the whim of the Individual. All power is part of the Eternal circle of element - man - spirit. All those of power will accept their place in this circle.
2. No user of supernatural power shall use this power against a fellow user of the higher arts. Mage does not fight mage, Priest does not fight Mage and Priest does not fight priest. Never again shall the land be rent by the thoughtless and childish misuse of power.
3. Those of power shall not involve themselves in the acquisition of worldly dominance. They shall not be exalted over others, they shall hold no material positions of influence.
4. The safety of the Baronial lands is the paramount responisbiliry of those of power. The actions of a rituallist of power will be questioned neither by serf, Baron or Waldgraf.
5. Deific and Draconic power is an unthinking tool. Glory or obedience is not to be paid to a personification of either spiritual or elemental power.
6. Respect is to be kept in dealings with those of power beyond our borders. Their ways are not our ways and should be accepted. Should people of power from beyond our borders show either disrespect or demonstrate a threat to the Baronial lands then those of power may use their own judgement as to their actions.

These edicts form the basis for the actions and intention for members of the Circle. The Circle was first named thus at the initial gathering of ritualists who accepted the Arathelian Accords- the name being taken from the first Edict.

To clarify a couple of points:

• The third edict precludes ritualists from obtaining material positions of influence. There is a standing exception to this in the Reclaimed Lands as a matter of fact - Thor of Talthar has earned his right to stand as Waldgraf. If he were to wave his ritual power around in a way that threatened the Baronies then the Circle would do something about it. I am confident that will not happen. The rule stands and those of power shall not involve themselves in the acquisition of worldly dominion.
• The fourth edict does not prevent those without ritual power from being concerned about the activities of ritualists, but it does mean that it is the Seven who rules on those actions, not the Waldgraf. If you have a concern that has arisen on a mercenary mission or similar, you should speak with a member of the Circle to ensure they are aware of the circumstances. That need not be one of the Seven - any responsible member of the Circle will do.

It has ever been the practice that Barons, Grafs and Waldegrafs are closely accompanied by advisors from the Circle. I am extremely keen that this practice should flourish. The presence within a Barony of a member of the Circle should allow problems to be identified earlier, and additional supernatural might to be brought to bear if required. It is good practice for members of the Circle to be close to those they protect, and for Barons and others to have that insight and support close to hand.
