The road between Alguz and Halgar to the South had long been known as one of the safest and most 'luckiest' routes in the Empire.
Often a traveller would awake to find a napsack filled with bread, cheese and meats or that rickety and squeaking wheel on the cart fixed and greased. It was the Halgar spice merchant who saw the crows flocking to a single spot in a ditch to the side of the road. He jumped down from his cart with a sigh, hoping it was an animal carcass he would find, rather than anything sinister. He was greeted by the corpse of a man dressed in simple grey robes and the unmistakable seven rings of Talthar embroidered on his tabard. His death face was locked in terror, a single precise cut to the throat and blood encrusted around his mouth spoke to the manner of his demise. The merchant pondered whether how could get the corpse onto his cart and deliver it to Alguz without ruining his bay leaves... |
