Times were tough in Port Miere. The city had sunk beneath the waves as people had come to expect at the Dawn, but this time things had not gone so smoothly. The city spirit was angry, that was nothing new, she was always angry as was her nature.
In one quarter flooding had caused considerable damage, loss of property, goods, food and more had hit the people of Port Miere, and hit them hard. No one was entirely sure if it was simply their angry city spirit or something else and they responded in different ways. Amongst the folk who relied on fishing for their livelihood two such paragons were thanking the day they had bumped into Arlon, whose charitable work for the Buggledexters had seen his purse several hundred grulls lighter and the two lucky fishermen rushing off to spread the news of their good fortune and that there might be more to be had from the charity. Some of the beggars from the water damaged quarter had been more desperate, salt glinting off their weapons, and with an even more evil glint in their eyes they went in search of easy pickings. There were rumours that some had been swayed by the pirates turned bandits. A situation that didn’t last for long; a group of mercenaries had been hired to clean out the Sea Harpy. Without his mother’s patronage and protection her crab clawed son and his brigands had been swiftly dealt with, and the supply wagons began to trundle slowly, but with increasing frequency through the mud once more. -------------------- Will Power - will@labyrinthe.co.uk
