Dear heroes of Primus (and beyond)… I trust this finds you well after a right strange year or so for all of us.
Just as many of us ‘ave been lookin’ into things a little closer to home – so have the forces what would mean us all harm – bringing disorder and a whole heap of unpleasantness to the lands we call home and endangerin’ them what we love and hold dear.
This is a lengthy read, but important - so grab a cup of something warmin’ and settle in comfy for it.
I would call all them what can to muster on Starsday 22nd day of Maii to counter one such threat – that bein’ The Cult of Nightmares, one of the groups associated with the power known as Ruin.
As a little reminder and as previously communicated by the office of the Lord Inquisitor Apathy (originally in Airprus IM1019, and again in Februar IM 1021) – Ruin and its associated organisations are censured and prescribed.
The entity commonly known as Ruin (I will not repeat its true name here) and its associated organisations – the Cult of Nightmares and the Order of Dreams are with immediate effect censured and proscribed.
Members of these organisations are considered ostracised should mercenaries encounter them. Furthermore, providing assistance to members of a proscribed faith or organisation is a felony.
These groups follow Ruin, and seek nothing more than to bring its realm of torment and insanity to Primus.
It is important that if the forces of Ruin, the Cult of Nightmares or the Order of Dreams are encountered they are directly opposed and more importantly information is recovered and shared. Please contact the Inquisition with any relevant information. Equally, should you wish more detail on these matters in advance of potential contact with these groups then this can be made possible.
Through various scryings, collaborations and various other ritual what not, the following has been discovered and is made known here for the benefit of the Mercenary caste in the hopes that once again we can fend off numerous threats to the place what most of us call home.
* The Cult of Nightmares has not been idle over the last few months, bad eggs that they are, they’ve been working on their next move in their attempt to bring Ruin’s power to this plane – and rest assured they ain’t coming in peace! They’ve been busy so and so’s attempting several dark and dangerous (for the rest of us) summonations.
* Previously, it was the second throne/Ruined city in the Baronies.
* This time they have summoned an aspect of Ruin in the Far North called Despair. It will manifest in late afternoon, (around five hours past noon) on the 22nd day of Maii. There ain’t no realistic way of stopping it manifesting so it is going to be a case of going to it and killing it when it gets here, before it gets chance to spread its dark power and despair across the lands. Which we obviously won’t be lettin’ happen!
We know that it will manifest in five different places at five different levels of potency, and thus the best way it can be thwarted is by having five similarly potent groups of heroes to stand against them.
For them amongst you what like a bit more information, it is an (un)holy day of Ruin, which is why they have targeted this particular date. It is also the anniversary of the day that the original cataclysm of the Sharmyn Empire happened.
* As if that ain’t bad enough, portents and prophesies also strongly suggest that other dark and nefarious forces are plannin’ on taking advantage of the disruption caused while forces are concentratin’ on this and take any opportunity what they can to cause trouble for their own ends.
As you can tell from the above, they ain’t the only ones what have been busy and thanks to the concerted efforts of several scholarly types and ritualists of our own, there will be a freshly empowered threat map that will help highlight these threats on the day.
This will mean that them groups what can assist will be able to travel to and from the locations via the map by means of concentration. As is normal (hah!) with such mystically empowered maps what allow folk to traverse the very exostance, this will need the would be travellers to be in a safe/calm state and concentrating.
For them what can make it, Mercenaries should gather at a special bunker location outside Halgar, to the south. For security reasons it will remain unnamed – but details will be shared separately with them what sign up.
Logistics - Mercenaries will need to divide themselves into five groups with a maximum of six individuals of corresponding power to the summoned aspects. Usual mercenary names (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Purple 1 and Purple 2 will apply – yes it is THAT dangerous a threat, so there will be two groups what like getting their hands dirty on an Earthsday). It is vitally important that once you are formed into your group, you keep to this group through the day.
Access to the bunker will open from the 11th hour in the morning (so plenty of time for second breakfast!).
Groups should travel down to the bunker with a primal heart beat (5 minutes for them that don't like the tea of cups flim flammery) gap in between. The most pressing mission will be clear on the map for each group, once that is complete you will be free to choose. Things do have a tendency to pop up though - so keep an eye on the map!
Not many can see into the future, but them what can have assured us that there will be various things that can be done during the day to weaken this aspect and make it ripe for beatin’. So do not despair – but read this with HOPE in your hearts, as together we can and will beat the adversity what is placed before us. There will be rituals to be undone, artefacts to be gathered, and various other bits and bobs to accomplish what will all make that final confrontation doable, and earn braggin' rights over a well earned ale or two in the taverns later!
As a concerted effort alongside the Inquisitor’s office, we will gladly cover the cost of all standard potions that day as well as the traditional grull reward for a good (longer) day’s work.
I and my office will also personally pay G5000 for the first thorough, detailed and accurate report of the days events received (concerning the successes and challenges faced by all five groups).
I would like to thank them responsible for the above information, in particular Tazrikel Sharmyn, one of the Ancient Folk from the Sharmyn Empire who helped the Imperial Seers in their research and divinations.
So sharpen your blades, dust off that mace and loosen them holes on your armour straps and belts!
Senator for Mercenary Affairs.
(OOC – any comms etc, please send to the man wanting to “Ruin” our day (sorry) – Mr Will P AKA Tazrikel Sharmyn. )
Just as a further addition to the above, following speaking in more detail with some of my colleagues.
As we all know and respect - words and names in particular have power.
It has been known from previous dealings with the Cult of Ruin that uttering its true name can be bad - leading to all sorts of unexpected and unpleasent things. This has been known to be left on parchments or documents as a trap, which when translated and read out (usually quite innocently) has resulted in harmful powers and/or ritual strikes occurin'.
I will not scribe it here, but add a warning for this endeavour. Should you encounter anything that could (or looks to be) the name of a dark power - then don't say it aloud - simple.
If you mess around with it, then well - you are askin' for trouble and put yourselves, them what travels with you, and the misson in hand unnecessarily at risk. Noone likes that person.
Senator for Mercenary Affairs.
It was a pleasure to help get the “threat map” functioning again. I suspect the time since its last use, wide range of threats and the fact it isn’t “The Dawn” all contributed to a need for some ritual maintenance
I had held back expecting you to receive response from people pledging their assistance to the cause.
I shall attend on behalf of the Baronies and Circle
Anyone new to dealing with Ruin - I suggest taking a read of the following - it may or may not prove instructive
With warmest regards
Magiarch Jonas Mistmore
Certainly right, Magiarch Mistmore - there was a lot o' ritual dust on that map to be cleansed by experts such as yourself. Although I'm a bit concerned you all did too good a job, as now there's things popin' up all over the place!
Anyways - its good to know someone as august a wizard as yourself will be able to assist with the Ruin threat.
I will point out there is something wrong in the Far North / North Of the Empire as someone or thing is messing around with rituals and it takes alot of strength and power to do that.
Also my Drake has revealed that there is something wrong with reserections and Ruin, is someone knows anything please get in touch with me as I would like to know.
whilst I've been in my tower, drinking red wine and practising my glyphs ready for this mercenary venture, I have been in discussion with Kruskal.
For purple company, I have some interesting new information that has come to light.
There is a rite in which 'Despair' is using to restore itself when it dies. This rite is affecting the restoration of tribals within the tribal lands. and drawing on their vitae to power itself.
This rite is on a pocket plane, in which you need to see it to be able to travel there, hopefully we have someone who can do this. For am I not powerful enough.
One interesting fact about this plane is that the amount of vitae on the plane affects our... punishment. Just as an estimate, if there were say 30 lives left in 6 mercenaries combined, we would suffer a 'vitae destruction' type effect once every 30 minutes. I am told the best protection from the... destruction... is an act of faith. Most mercenaries only have the ability to invoke their faith 3 times, so let's keep our fingers crossed we don't need to be in there for more than an hour and a half (I am, however, doubtful).
I have the sense that this plane is a bit of a trap... But what could one expect on such a Ruinous day? Furthermore, there are people on this plane. My dragon tells me there are nightsoils, trolls, silver elementals, star elves? and ancient folk. I would imagine pacts will come into play at some stage on this plane and my mercenary band should prepare for such events.
I am not sure who my purple companions will be, but let me assure you. I am coming dressed for purple group, and I am prepared for purple antics.
See you next Starsday,
Elemental Lord of Twilight
Tower of Shards
We will stop it, but failing that, I am very very good at keeping someone dead if I kill them
i heard about these angels in the outside of Alguz, that were acting a bit insane, soooo i did some further investagtions
and the angels, are Talthari, they are insnae and also the route from heaven to Alguz has been "confused"
note these angels are still Talthari just insane
with the Despair well, he has a rite in his own plane like you said i think, there is a reanimation rite similar to the Empress' nightsoil one which means Despair will come back the day after
about 10 deaths worth of a mericainies times it can be restored has been stolen from the tribals, and i have reason to beleive some of them or all of them have taken/stolen the regeneration of trolls through these rituals/rites Despair is using to reneaw himself
the acientfolk are some of the most powerful from the sharmyn dynsty, they stayed behind and took the "Last Stand" against Ruin to giver the very few reaming time to esacpe on the infamous unholy days. They can only be called upon on Ruin.Sharmyn holy days and unholy days|
There happen to be countless unholy days across many planes, each marking the day that plane fell to Ruin
the vitae destuction is a continual, envirermental and a targed effect
however i might be complelted being decieved as my spirits rate of the triggering of the vitae destuction was a lot less then Myrions
can't wait for next Starsday
Uriel, The Lucky Goblin
Aprrentice to many
Dabbler of the tribes
Mascot of most
I will not be present but I want to make it very clear...
If the Talthari Angels are hurting people, and or are impeding the completion of this mission against a force of despair, you should kill them, moreover you would have Talthars (and indeed the Angels, were they sane) backing in doing so.
Though I would obviously ask that they are not further corrupted or what have you. Unless they can be easily cured by those present don't feel any need to waste time moralising over the issue, Bastard sword... Job Done!
on a little bit more scrying i have discovered
that the ritual it atucally 10 diffrenet rituals that have diffrenet effects, each ritual we deal with impacts the others
the spirits see there is a way to destroy/stop all the rituals but can't see...., i assume we will need to be at the ritual to find out more
and on further scrying about the Vitae destuction Mryion has mentioned
esstainily we will lose vitae based on how long we stay there and the rate of the lose will be faster based on how much vitae is atucally present in the realm
Good morning fellow mercenarys/heros/dubious types.
I have reached out to my mum who have kindly looked into some bits for me.
Bronze company will have 5 posible threats to deal with on the day. 1 is linked to pep.
4 are to do with ruin and of that 4 there are 2 which are linked to rituals which empower one of his champions.
Now hear is the interesting bit which I think needs a little thort. If we as a group of heroic mercenaries had to make the choice what do we prioritize? Is weakening the champion our main aim for the day? How about stopping pep Should that be higher up the list?
My mum has kindly offered to look into a few things in more detail for me but before I bother her from her feasting in the halls of the dead I'd like to no what we think is most important.
Any advice appreciated
Just wanted to follow up with a hearty "Best of Luck" to all them brave heroes what is attending the muster tomorrow. Hopin' you are all successful in your various tasks and challenges.
On behalf of the Senate I wanted to pass on our thanks for your efforts and hard work Starsday last. I was keepin' an eye on the threat maps and at times there were things goin' off all over the place.
Once again the mercenary cast has done us proud and helped to keep the lands a safer place to be - so thank you. It seems some of them threats were also linked to other plots and plans what might try to raise their heads in the future - so any information that can be shared to keep the folks safe the better.
I have already received a couple of reports (one from Bronze company, and one from one of the Purple companies) - but forewarned is better than a nasty surprise or ten later!
