Twenty-something years ago a band of mercenaries came together to seek out the doors to the prison that held lost elven essence, long barred from rebirth. The seals of that prison lay in the hands of those who had formed it, a mysterious church who thrived on agony, the Church of Dunatis. They fought and despite the best efforts of a turncoat within their ranks, they released that essence to be born again.

Since their release these elves have been widely mocked for somehow being defeated by priests. Many have laughed at them. Few have asked what actually happened an age ago.

Until now.

In late IM1021 scattered priests of the Cult of Agony wake from heat-fevered dreams to find grains of fine sand upon sheets stained with their own blood. Tales are muttered in the docks of Bildteve of an ancient temple uncovered by shifting deserts, with treasures and sealed writings buried deep within thought lost to Levity. Of a crumpled parchment being touted for sale with a rough map scrawled on one side, and a rubbing of a carved image on the other. An angular fist held aloft, palm facing forward. A symbol of life's furious defiance of death, of the utter refusal to surrender.

When your body is torn, your spirit broken and your enemies stand at the brink of victory only one chance remains.
