As many of you know, HotE has come to an end, which is not the point of this post, things change and all that
but it's probably a good place to acknowledge, maybe even thank, the man behind it for his part in creating the world we adventure in. It was Alan and Jan who were mostly responsible for taking the board/map that hangs in the Hiring Hall and turning it into a far more real place than the paragraph of background at the end of the Players Handbook. It was Alan who continued to pour colour and life into the Realm of Glass and beyond with Heroes. I'm not saying he did it alone, but often a ref might have drawn inspiration from what Alan was putting out there. Much of the fantasy setting we now take for granted/adventure in every weekend has its origins in the fertile smithy of Alan's imagination. And far more noteworthy perhaps, he continued to do it for two decades. In a time where most of us who ref acknowledge getting tired/running out of ideas after a few months - I think that more than anything deserves a thanks/tip of the hat/nod of the head. Whatever your view of HotE, you've almost certainly adventured in somewhere that Alan created or added life to in the last month, let alone year, and for that I at least would like to say thanks. So, thanks . Giles. PS if anyone wanted to do so where he might more likely see it http://kingfits.proboards.com/thread/2163/final-cut-read |
