I've planned for a while to MC Ranger to 6th level and the only ability that falls outside the clearly defined rules of availability (that I want) is Wanderers Hunch.

I really don't want to use a 7th or 8th to get this and wondered if anyone else had gotten it as post 6th or a plain points app along the lines of "may buy one 1st class only ability"

It's an odd one - historically it was mostly always failed as it was the only reason to start a Ranger but then any old Alfar or Druid could get it which means Lee may have a differing view on it to Phil B

The really easy win is just buy all the pre reqs and apply for sense motion which is nearly as good but not quite and should be very applicable to a second class Ranger

Wanderer's Hunch is the defining Ranger ability and the reason to take Ranger to 8th. It might be possible to get a weakened version of such or from build up with specific reasoning such as Guard Tradition and add ons from that.

There are other approaches such as the "Sense motion" which does pretty much the same thing and while on the tables as a scout class ability can also be taken through Primal Soul and is something that can be justified in a number of reasons through multirace choices.

You could also try writign a non-standard 7th & 8th so you don't feel you are "wasting" your class slot to 8th.

just apply for a talisman slot and then get the one that lets you buy wanderers hunch.

Simple! Maybe trade your path slot for it?
