So with the newly discovered floor in the duel plan of Sam and dave's characters,

Should there be a duelling clause for matters of honour?

There has to be otherwise people will kill themselves because they are unable to settle matters of honour with a duel because they are forbidden

Yeah the COJ ethos and restrictions need updating and sorting.

Duelling should be allowed if not were no different from any other part of primus.

Perhaps it should preclude the use of supernatural powers and be to a first to 5 bits of blood, otherwise it's a bit odd bothering having it if there is a huge discrepancy in points surely?

You might as well just say the highest points wins.

Unless you can specify a champion to defend you?

Certainly when we did the duel during the trials of honour that Lee ran it was first to 3 blows everyone using lego swords from the armoury. The trials were very clever in that a 75 point Samurai had the same chance as a 10k Samurai though.

Every IC duel I have come across has had different rules and stakes.

Duel to the death
Duel to 1st cut
Duel to first 3 blow etc

Some are to matter disputes, testing of strength and skill, some lead to death and seppuku for failing duel anyway.
The 'western' thing was the person who accepts the duel could define the rules, I don't think that is practical, but a basic set of rule for different type of duel would be good
i.e. for this= this kind of duel and this outcome.

That's unlikely to happen, Myself and Tony went through this with a fine tooth-comb and the restrictions do exactly what they are meant to do. everyone else checked them, I even passed them by you first before sending them off. The point is for people to be able to play together and not have one clan doing one thing, excluding the others and to combine the smaller separate player bases so that a guild as a whole doesn't have to divide it's attention and continue running without extreme effort of keeping 3-4 guilds running.

I know it's strange but people could try not trying to kill each other and getting along IC and if that can't happen then they can at least respect the judgement of their "peers" when it is given. I.E. the guild restrictions, and not try to circumvent them at every turn. If this was KOTL people would be shouting from the rooftops that guild restrictions are not to be avoided. There is no difference here. You read the restrictions when you joined, then you joined (agreeing to the restrictions), don't try to change them because they don't suit you.

Whilst I see Julian's point, and broadly agree with him, I'm struggling to see how you could play Samurai/honoured one in this instance. Other than ofcourse crack on and get outlawed lose benefits. Then commit seppeku. Because by being an outlaw you broke the law?

Whilst I appreciate they may have been checked and double checked and everyone happy at the time, is it time now to change them?

If your convinced they are being changed for a situation change it after that situation

We have been play testing the coj long enough that we can make some changes if needs be. I think the simple addition that duels, if both parties agree, are outside the outlaw/cannot harm one another restrictions as honour is all important in the eastern system.

It's simple, request an honour duel, use boken, first to X strikes. No honour lost, no harm done. No-one dies, no outlaw, no council restrictions broken. Nothing changes.

All that people are asking for is the permission to kill each other, this doesn't require a guild to change it's rules, it's asking people to change their mentality of killing players. Because R2L exists people forget that the life of a person does matter. But if people are so desperate for blood, frankly if an "execution" can be done and not affect restrictions of either the guild or the game system effect of outlaw, then I'm sure the structure we have currently "allow" for the ruling council to agree on Duel to the death and allow it to not effect the participants. Again, read the rules:

"Any disagreements will be civically dealt with by the Leaders of the Council; their decision is final in every case."

" --- until the incident is resolved at which time they may appeal to the Council for full membership again (only by the Guild Sire’s approval)"

if these rules stand, they can be applied in advance;

i.e. Bloodthirsty Snake Samurai wants the head of a Stubborn Lion Samurai, for "reasons", petitions the ruling council (Voice, Mind and Body of the council) for a duel to the death, decisions made agree to duel, petition to your Lord is made, Lord agrees, petition to the Magistrates is made for permission to duel (OMG Roleplay! What the heck is going on here!!!!), permission is granted. Duel happens, no guild restrictions broken, no laws broken, someone dies. Fin
(The story, all names, characters, and incidents portrayed in this production are fictitious. No identification with actual persons (living or deceased), places, buildings, and products is intended or should be inferred.)

Everything is fine, however Roleplay kills orientals more that combat, so if the council/magistrate disagrees, the applicant is welcome to suppuku in disagreement, leave the guild via rebirth and then deal with it afterwards. Job done.

Don't change rules for your needs, roleplay around the situation, god-forbid!

Settle it with Chinese Checkers! Book at least a single length though as the last game took hours. 3 members from each Clan, no blocking spaces in your team mates area, all losers commit immediate seppuku! Job done!

Very good points there Julian,

going back to the duel in the trials, the lego armoury swords were used to represent safety training swords. I had to use a number of abilities and innates to kill my opponent with it, but that was because if he had just lost, he would have permed himself, by killing him, he could be ressed.

I accept what you put above, and it involves more people in this immersive and exciting part of the game.

Surely the Lords of the guild can make a judgement that the two wishing to duel are ostracised for the guild so no restrictions and then enterd back into the council once it has been concluded.... it does state that the ruling of the guild heads is final

Let's not forget that the guild ethos and restrictions where put in place before the rules and source book where even a sparkle in our eyes.... it stands to reason that we could update now to bring the wording in line with the now written rules for the Oriental stuffs 😀

In the example of "bloodthirsty snake samurai" if the council and the Lords agree to the duel why would the magistrates need to agree?

If the Lords have agreed then no laws are being broken?

A friendly duel is one thing, one person insisting a duel to kill someone due a real or imagined slight?
I like the council rules, if you don't want them, don't join.
