(sent in privacy to the Halls of the Church)

Dear friends,

As some of you may be aware, I had occasion to journey to the House of Whispers today. The Swarm have been tunnelling through much of Labyrinthia, and one of their incursions has been within the manor house of Allokra - the Inquisition sent a group of mercenaries to investigate of which I was one, Matthew Mulberry being another.

As well as finding out more about The Swarm, we were also asked by E.W. of the Inquistion to retrieve a book from the manor house's library, which we duly did - written by a Magiarch of Glorianave whose exact name I forget, though it began with an A and I am sure Matthew will recall. E.W. said that he would see the book delivered to you.

As for the House itself, their Seneschal explained that they do not wish to be undead, but rather have been turned into such through the nature of their pacts and rites. Having ascertained that, when dismissed or killed, the undead in Allokra do not seem to return to their home plane but are simply recalled to the site of their pacts, we chose not to engage everything we met in combat. However, there were still a number of potent creatures who could not be avoided - most notably, seventh rank ethereal skeletal creatures, some of whom projected an aura of silence about themselves and shouted Unholy Words in an effort to freeze us still, and so forth.

We progressed through the Hall of Whispers into the underground caverns...the Hall of Whispers needing to be unlocked from being out of phase with reality by finding three gems, putting them on a shrine and dismissing the undead within the shrine. THe gems could only be found and grasped by individual mercenaries entering into the pocket dimensions where they were held.....putting said mercenaries slightly out of phase with reality and unable to see the threats around them.

We then dealt with The Swarm and returned for the book, transgressing into the library. The entire library was a sixth rank creature of undeath who had to be dismissed before anyone could speak within the library....and then we met other undead creatures - amongst them beings who caused anyone they hit to forget the last thirty seconds of their life, and beings who struck with the stealing of life's essence with each blow. Unpleasant. We also met three prisoners who could only be dismissed by their true names, which we found on scrolls in the library. Unfortunately we did not have the power to set them all free at that stage, though one of my companions (Uthred, a Gruttuck) has the scrolls and would, I'm sure, be happy to share the names should you return to the manor house at any time. We then broke the chains around the book and left, rapidly.

In short - House Allokra are extremely dangerous, both for the potency of the creatures within and the various wards and traps that they employ - specifically, silencing, confusing, blinding, and so forth. Any further venture to their manor house should be both well equipped and made up of experienced mercenaries.

My very best wishes to you all, and to your church.

Ignatius

Just to add.

Uthred has passed me the names of the prisoners that need freeing.

Oh, and I've got Arvalath's special book which we stole from House Allokra's Library. It was well warded and makes you feel weird when you pick it up - so it's probably important!

We also blew up part of the prison using dragon ore and saved a chap who was still living - we should probably chat to him...

Regards,

Matthew Mulberry

Thank you both,

Any information on the house of Whispers is always good to receive and having the book returned to the cradle is great news also.

(OOC: Happy to do chats to the guy you rescued (unknown of house Rekthenan), or indeed Tirime Artento Rekthenan who you rescued last Mortai. If you want to have chatted to them/ask questions of them, etc. do just let me know.

Cheers,

Huw)
