As per last year, we want the types of characters people play on this event to make it enjoyable for the most amount of people involved. Therefore it has the following booking restrictions: No characters who are outlawed, wolfshead or similar may be played. Characters should be party constructive and willing to work to the overall aim of the event rather than de-rail things. Any character choices deemed not to meet this may be asked to change prior to or during the event.

I have a friend who may or may not have wanted an extra grade of backstab for cheap or similar and is ostracised for no other action than it was a way to reduce a points request.

Is being ostracised from points apps or tables abilities acceptable?

Really! Surely ostracised (from published abilities are fine) and outlawed by race also fine.

I read the first part of that restriction on character choices as aimed at people who are 'party killing outlaws', which is nice and clear (not something I'm a fan of and has already knocked out potential character choices) and we all get it.

The second part is a bit strange in terms of characters 'likely to de-rail things'. The Final Dawn plot seems to be set up at ensuring the different city spirits survive into next year, which is difficult as it potentially can lead to conflicting player aims.

How can any well role-played character promise they won't try to save their IC home at the expense of another?

Is it fair for something so potentially world changing, that cities with 'bad reps' and consequently characters that reflect this are not allowed to turn up and protect their interests?

For example, Lee was saying on Sunday that he had been involved in the plot as his baronial character all year, but wouldn't play FD as that as he would quite rightly try and save Takalia even if it meant screwing over Empire / potentially de-railing things.

It just feels that these oddly worded restrictions which require you to hypothetically commit to how your will role play your character over 3 days before the plot is fully revealed are being put in place to deal with a very small minority of players/characters who 'ruin Christmas'. Surely these people can just be told certain characters can't be played (to be fair all of these have already been knocked out of contention by the PK rule!) when/if they book on.

Final Dawns are supposed to be game world changing. Lee's colours of magic one a few years ago was great as people worked for their own preferred dragon but still got on with the overall aim but people were certainly 'de-railing' certain plot threads to further their own.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I just think that putting too many OOC restrictions on character choices leads to a bland, sanitised, homogenised team sport approach to the dungeons which doesn't reflect the game world/background/history we all love.

I can see both sides of the argument, but common sense and rule 7 win out in this case I think.

If you're outlawed for ptsapp/published ability, but have no intent to PK etc then I'd have no issue with it personally.

Surely we employ the usual tie breaker phrase, don't be a dick?

I'm hoping that the thrust of the restriction is "don't book on as a character who is there to carry out contracts / attack other PCs and just be disruptive"

Which I would imagine is different from booking on as a character with who over the course of the event might take views different to other PCs as a result of options presented to them by the refs.

I'm sure it's just meant to safe guard peoples overall fun?

I'm sure it doesn't mean you cant work to your own goals! As that would be rubbish.

I get what the restrictions are there to do and what the overall thrust of them is but that isn't what the restrictions actually say.

We can all get behind the idea of don't be a dick and ruin Christmas and understand that. There have been 2/3 players in the last 5 years who have maybe crossed that line - they all have different characters they can play if needed.

Is it really nessecary to add restrictions on everyone else to to deal with this tiny minority?

For example, I have an Alguz kallah who is interested in plot/saving his City spirit etc. I partykilled a few years ago on Huw's mortai campaign for purely IC plot reasons - was actually an IC friend. It just feels really random both IC/OOC that I can't now play themedays on the rare occasion there is a no max section.

I wouldn't dream of party killing at Christmas and clearly understand the don't be a dick criteria. This then gives the best of both worlds - rough ground rules on not ruling other people's days but also rich, varied roleplay on the day.
