i guess a way to deal with the problem of monsters is to get y.p's down who are 13 or under and offer monster points for it, because that means that the blows will all be roughly the same height and that you don't have the problem of adults hitting 11-12 year olds.

Well the first party was last weekend and no-offence to any of them but they were tiny! And I am 13!
They were hyper though...

so I heard, the hyperactiveness is only to be expected on your first time down, you cannot say that you weren't hyper the first time you came down, i certainly was

Well the kids seemed to really enjoy themselves. The feedback from the playground... er carpark was very very good. And we had a few enquiries during the day from parents going to the tours who "spoke to someone in the car park about the parties and thought they were a great idea!"

They were really noisy and very hyper. But first caves events + birthday party + fried food and ketchup = hyper and loud... if you add cake into that mix... blink.gif wink.gif

It's been ages since I looked at this post, I keep forgetting how to find things I posted on.... I know, I know, it's probably age. Could be maleness, too, not being able to find things smile.gif

I downloaded the forms myself the other day, my son's birthday came and went unfortunately, and I'm *trying* to sort out a date when he isnt either at football training or up to something else, although in all honesty the scarey (not really) 5'0" other half wants him to wait until he is 12. I'll work on that.

Just out of curiosity, did any of those that came to the party come back again ?

I started both of mine at 11. As long as they come with at least one friend to be with when the:
lights go out
rest of the YP's shout at them
they die
they get hit with an unsafe blow
hit their head/elbow/knee on a wall/ceiling/tunnel
go for lunch
come up early and Dad is still playing

Then they will be fine!!

:-)

Also, the desk, referee's and monsters as well as the young players (and the CMT of course), all look out for new players, and they make friends easily at laby as well.

I can totally understand your wife's concerns though. But it's safer (touch wood) than football clubs etc. We have less injuries (again touch wood) than I used to when I played football at that age. And even the odd ankle twist and so on is easily walked off by the youngsters - your wife should be more worried about the oldies smile.gif

I hope they get a chance to enjoy such a great hobby for themselves, I started playing ( albeit a different system) at 12 and I haven't looked back. I know a lot of adults who started at that age and still play or if they've had a break have come back to the family as it were.

As it happens Andrew, I was thinking about asking you when yours started lol. I was thinking of arranging a morning session for Jack and one of his friends and a full days session for me, then my wife can come over and meet us all for lunch (and then quickly run away lol) and take them back after lunch whilst I go back down to the cave for the afternoon adult session. That way, if he likes it, it's kind of a plan for the future and gets me 'having' to go to the caves just because Jack wants to... I did overhear you mention that the other day and thought 'blimey that's a good excuse' LOL
