Events in Deci ~ Noveas IM 1010

A little later in the year than usual found the Hundred's Guild in their annual celebration. As was usual those great and mighty of the city who had ties to the city's craft guilds were ensconced in sessions discussing the matter of the day with their peers. Master Halfblack with the Merchants and Jander with the Warsires being two notable ones.

In Cheapside Sire 'Berry scoured the l quarter for any sign of The Black Lead and Myronese spies, which proved both unable to actually catch any but remarkably effective in driving them out at the same time. The Sleek engaged in a similar hunt across the Hightown and The Invisible Quarter and at the end of the month it was obvious that the King and his Vizier had planned to make the life of any Myronese operatives in the city "difficult". The Vizier having surmised that actually catching them was not as important as making it impossible for them to operate in the city.

Forgetown was relatively quiet, that quiet before the storm as preparation for the annual Joining Ceremony, the mass weddings to be performed by Tirack got well underway. Master Halfblack sparing no expense to advertise that in tandem with the Ceremony this year there would be the first Forgetown Annual Ratfink Tournament.

Governor Selgard, was shown around the city, taken to meet the guild masters and Sires whilst enjoying a somewhat confusing few days being greeted and hailed by the people who fully accepted him as their Governor, although the near "ceremonial" status of the Governorship was something no one decided to comment on. It is fair to say that the Governor, whose best work has always been unseen, felt a little uncomfortable thrust into the light of day and crowds.

Jander, having spent some time in the wilds, had discovered the poor state of Deci's military defence, Deci never historically one to employ armies the attempt to change that being painfully slow. The revelation that Hacka's Hearties, one of the Mercenary Helds employed by the city, had been taking the proverbial by claiming the city's purse whilst, it seems, were out active in Keys rather than protecting Deci...

In the Spire His Majesty was brought Tribute, gifted lands and scriven rites by his loyal noble subjects, as if he were in need of much more, of either. Thus appeased and having dealt with various matters he entertained certain visitors that had been brought before him.

During all the celebrations Dirk was overjoyed to discover a shadowy Black Dragon had entered the city and took to his horse to hunt it down for a new trophy. Much to the surprise of everyone in the city the infamous Beastslayer was unsuccesful in taking his trophy. The creature eluding him after he had prevented it from harming the city, it simply vanishing as he gave chase.

Events in Deci ~ Final Dawn IM 1010

Forgetown
Later in the year than usual, the annual Forgetown Joining Ceremony took place at the Final Dawn, marking the end of IM 1010. This year Master Halfblack organised Forgetowns’ First Annual Ratfink Tournament. Having been long advertised by the Merchant and with a winner’s purse of 5,000C it drew quite a crowd, even Sire ‘Berry was seen to leave his Cheapside with son of the Stepsons to see what all the fuss was about and to try his luck at cards.

Even the city’s Guild Masters and Sires of The Hundred were drawn to Forgetown this year, although they avoided the higher stakes games. Amongst those at the final game were Sire Berry, Rex Randall, Preacher Tirack, Mayor Gideon Borealis, Governor Selgard, even ex-Governor Gabriel Drake couldn’t resist showing his face for a good old game of cards after Master Halfblack had personally invited him to take a seat and keep an eye on the proceedings to ensure fair play. It seemed that the only people missing were the city’s Nobility: Earl Majius, Baron Throttle and Dirk.

Preacher Tirack did not last long in the gambling but it mattered not as he had a large number of wedding ceremonies to attend to in any case and was soon followed by Mayor Gideon’s exit from the game. The eventual winner was Sire ‘Berry who eventually managed to beat Master Halfblack, who somewhat suspiciously only just lost in the final hand…

Deci
As is his habit Jander filled his Primal responsibility as The Forge and in the dying embers of the year created the latest of his dawn blades, a mace to be precise, a gift from Harpell to Galdor.

In the city the Sleek gave orders to execute the criminals, something approaching in order of magnitude of putting to death a full near one in ten of the population. Strangely, as if finally growing up from its childish spite, and love of watching ill befall others, the city balked at that order, no more, the city had turned its back on constant death and murder and had now adopted a more civic mien. The guilds refused to construct the Death Mines needed to punish so many at once, and a representative of the Guilds was sent to his Majesty to ensure that the orders had not come from him. Many suspected that Governor Selgard, Sire Berry and the Vizier’s attendance in Forgetown to be a pretext to absent themselves from the city in the face of all this death and to avoid any blame being attributed to them…

Strangely it is rumoured that both His Majesty and the Vizier were pleased at this turn of events, at the citizens’ revolt and defiance of the will of the Court. Quite why this should be the case is uncertain and thus this seems to lack credibility as a rumour.

Events in Deci ~ Maii IM 1011

By Royal decree, an at the insistence of the absence Vizier, The Hundred sent out word to the rural lands that the people were to come into the city to escape the attentions of the Myronese armies on the march that had entered the territory over the past final Dawn. The decree proved remarkably effective, buoyed by the large number of institutions that had wisely been long sponsored by the city. By the end of the month the rural lands had emptied of all but the most isolated.

The city was also visited by its most beloved of sons, Charmin’ Billy, leader of wolves, folk hero and regarded as just the right sort to stick two fingers up at the Nobility and rulers of the city in the name of the common man. King Troy, as ever, saw Billy as little more than a rival for his people’s affections, and much to his Vizier’s exasperation, whenever he saw a rival the red mist seemed to descend and all common sense or listening to the advice of the Vizier to be cautious never went well.

With the long awaiting coming of the wolves to sate themselves on the Nobility in that ancient tradition of Wolf against the Blood King Troy was armed for battle, bristling with an alarming number of rituals he prepared joined with the Dark Knights of the Spire, lead by Dirk, ready to fight, and fight, in a fashion somewhat more honourably than one might expect of Deci.

A somewhat relaxed Billy approached Hightown having effectively brought an army of wolves up for a rumble to his home city right about the time the city was threatened with attack by Gnolls. He smirked with a nod and a wink at the grand scheme of an unseen manipulator, confident in a truce of sorts having been arranged by one whose authority exceeded even that of Troy. And so Billy stood in Hightown facing off against the Faceless King, mainly for the sake of form and the King stood defiant before him to hear his words.

Unfortunately another great power seemed unconcerned by such a possible truce and as Billy stood there, his army ready to defend the city, the head of this Legendary Wolf Prince was sliced clean from its shoulders, an of near impossibility, by a single child and as realisation of the identity of the child swept around the wolf packs slunk away.

Events in Deci ~ Orgrus IM 1011

Following the death of Charmin’ Billy at the hands of Childe Murder the city held its breath. Somewhat coincidentally, The Vizier, The Forge and all the heads of The Hundred’s Guilds had found other matters, in far away places to deal with, in the case of The Vizier and The Hundred, personal matters in Bildteve and Ishma beyond saw them well away from any possible recrimination of the recent events. Jander? Proably very deep in The First Mine…

The City was left to The King, a veritable tinderbox read to implode into another devastating civil war, the Blood against the people. But as the King walked the streets he took the form of a great shining Silver Angel and none who gazed upon his godlike form could say a single word against him, they just knew that their good and glorious King had not betrayed them, that he was not responsible in any way for the death of Billy, or the imminent invasion by the Myronese forces, or the shortages of goods in the city, the robbery, the murder or anything. No not the Shining King…

The Werewolves waited for their leaders, the Old Wolf Berek and the Young Wolf Nichal, they came but only to retrieve Billy’s body, which none had dared move from where it had lain. The wolves expected blood and vengeance but Berek and Nichal counselled against such and lacking a definitive leader the were somewhat pacified with the great and might of the city unseen except the Angelic Troy. As no blame could be apportioned so they stayed their claws, their boiling blood chilling as time passed whilst they watched and waited for the opportunity to take their vengeance but with each passing day their rage dimmed and their thoughts of blood turned back to the day to day problems of simple survival in Deci. And so it was by ritual cunning and sheer good fortune the Faceless King prevented his city exploding and allowing a semblance of order to be maintained, at least for a few more months…
