As many will know already, approximately 6 months ago I took a step back from my involvement with Labyrinthe in order to spend time with family and in to allow me to focus additional time and effort to my full-time work - I work with all the major banks on making them compliant with the various new financial regulations and also work with a number of global government departments on the impact of their various financial reforms, so it’s been a little busy for the last year or so and doesn't look likely to quieten down anytime soon!

The impact of stepping out of the week to week efforts with Labyrinthe have been dramatic - allowing me to expand my role significantly at work, spend time with Rachael helping to develop her new interests in leatherworking to the extent that it is now a full time role for her, and is hopefully culminating with a move back to the south coast nearer to both our families.

Because of this I have decided to make my stepping away from the running of Labyrinthe a permanent arrangement.

In order to minimise the impact of this change on the club as a whole (both in terms of financial impact and in terms of continuity), I have arranged for my shareholding in Labyrinthe to be retained by the remaining CMT and shareholders. I am sure that Phil and Jo will follow up with their views on what this change will mean for the club, but we have all made every effort to ensure any impact is kept to an absolute minimum.

It's been almost seven years since Phil, Duncan and I took on the task of running Labyrinthe.
We did so knowing absolutely that we were not going to make friends over it - in fact the absolute opposite turned out to be true.
We did so knowing full well that the decision made no sense from a financial perspective (the only financially rational decision at the time would have been to close!)
We did so knowing full well that it would be a significant commitment of time, money and effort (my back and legs have never forgiven me for carrying over 30 tonnes of sand and much more into a dark damp cave)

Looking back I am absolutely certain of a number of things:

* I have an amazingly patient, understanding and amazing wife - something I never forget to be thankful for.
* I (and the rest of the CMT) made mistakes along the way - we're merely human most of the time after all - but we put our time and effort behind each and every decision, and everyone was done for one reason only - improving the club even if/when others disagreed or felt otherwise
* Our time in the CMT has resulted in both Rachael and I losing friends and losing the passion for a hobby which once formed a very major part of our lives - we hope that one or indeed both of these can be rebuilt over time
* We only ever managed to implement about 10% of the ideas we originally had for Labyrinthe - many of those ideas were thrashed out over a holiday in Lanzarote with Phil and Jo before we took over Labyrinthe. I'm sad that I didn't manage to see some of the other 90% through, but hope that some of them may still come to fruition in the future
* We're proud of the 10% of things that we actually did manage to implement, and I am certain that the majority of those changes have resulted in the club still being around, active and vibrant.

* Many of the changes have never been overly apparent for most club members. The changes to the legal framework in which the club operates was a hot topic for many - that framework has been instrumental on a number of occasions in ensuring that the club still exists. The financial changes we brought about behind the scenes have been probably the most important in ensuring the future of Labyrinthe. There are a few club members that know the truly dire financial situation the club was in back in 2006 - taking on a financial debt greater than the market value of my house at the time was a cause for much loss of sleep. Laby may not be exactly rolling in cash - but it is financially independent and virtually debt free.

In short, many many people feel I/we made a number of bad decisions over the last seven years - and I won't disagree that there have been mistakes - but I remain proud of my involvement with Labyrinthe and hope the club continues to exist and grow in the future even if I am getting a little too old for wearing chainmail!

Although the potential house move will see us end up quite a distance from the caves both Rachael and I hope that once the move is done we can come back to play, monster (perhaps ref), and otherwise be involved in the future of this club as club members. We really do look forward to playing as club members alongside some old (ic and ooc) friends in the near future.

We wish Phil, Jo and Duncan all the best in continuing with the running of the club - it has been a joy and honour to have taken the journey with the three of you.

All the best.

Andy

If there were a like button, I am sure this post would receive hundreds. Not that Rachael would actually notice... (she'd be busy playing facebook games) :-)

Thanks for saving our hobby, and getting it to a state where it is still going strong.

Hi Andy/Rachael,

Just a quick message to say thanks for all you and the CMT have put into Labyrinthe. I can honestly say that without the changes and improvements you have made at the caves both in the running of the club and developing the system itself, I would have been unlikely to have returned to the caves after a long time away.

Though you say you have unfortunately lost friends through taking on the club, I am sure you have gain quite a few too. Many thanks for making Labyrinthe fun again! I hope to see you both down the caves in the near future and wish you all the best.

Alan.

It'll be sad to see the both of you go - but you're not really going anyway are you ? You're deciding to step down from lofty decisions, stress, and all the other involvement of running the place - to ENJOY your hobby !! biggrin.gif

Am sure we'll see you both at the caves soon enough. and I hope the move isnt too stressful !

All the best !! and thanks for the 10% !!

I didn't start coming back until you started your departure from the caves but the legacy you have left the remaining CMT is a stable system that it is a joy to be a part of. I very much look forward to playing with you guys again when you are ready.

Andy

Thank you for all of your hard work and really for the mad decision to take this on at that time. Rachel is a saint and you are a lucky man.

I hope that the remaining masochistic trio continue to develop and support this club/business as well as it has been. Somehow i am sure they will.

Emjoy the south coast.

The club owes Andy and Rach a debt of gratitude that can't easily be explained or quantified. Andy and Rach have been a pleasure to work with over the last 7 years.

Jo and I considered Andy and Rach to be good friends when we went into this crazy ride - and if I were asked to name the most positive thing to come from 7 years of running Labyrinthe, it would be that Jo and I consider them better and closer friends now than we did in 2006...

See you both in a cave soon... smile.gif

Jo and Phil.

Andy/Rach,

Thanks for all your hard work over the last 6 odd years, it is massively appreciated and i can't start to imagine how much effort and dedication it's taken over those years.

The same goes to Phil, Jo & the newly returned Duncan.

Many thanks all,
Rob

Andy, Rach,

You have been a massive and visible force for positive change at the Club. Thank you!

The very best of luck as you rebalance lives and priorities. I'm sad and surprised to hear the experience has hampered friendships... I've only witnessed the upsides... So even more credit to you both for that.

I look forward to seeing you in due course! Enjoy the changes in scenery and personal time.

Adding to the long line of Thanks,

Thank you both Andy/Rach, both of you contributed so much to making our hobby as fun as I can be and with Larpers being the swings and roundabout kinds of people to please that we are, you have done a great job.

Thank you so much

Ditto to all the above responses.

I hope that in time you guys can come back free of the burden of having carried The One Cave to Mount Progress.

If you only achieved 10% of your aims I can't imagine what 100% would have been.

Your incredible tireless work always amazed me and your pivotal roles in keeping our crazy hobby alive can't be underestimated.

Seven years is a long time!

Don't be strangers!
