For what its worth I don't think it needs to be complicated
Ritual Protection Item: XXX/YYY Does not blow up on next death May still be destroyed /lost by other means. The item still Disintegrates at the end of its duration as normal. 100 monster points By next death that means if you happen to die twice that day you still lose it - since any sort of IC justification involves taking to Z to have it warded. Z equals one of those mysterious people that make mantic swords and leave them lying around unpersonalised for mercenaries to find - mark |

Ref points were brought in to allow referees, who had played loads of characters through the pre-8th system, to skip that stage (and were moderately controversial at the time for that reason). If you aren't experienced/system-knowledgeable enough to be a ref, you probably aren't experienced enough to skip the pre-8th system. Just a slight deviation, but I don't entirely agree with this. I can think of a bunch of players who are both experienced and system-knowledgeable, but don't/hardly ref. But i guess receiving ref points for A-reffing sorts that out. I do think being able to keep an item through 1 death by spending monster points is a good idea, regardless of character definition/flavouring. Another good incentive to monster for a fair few folk i'm sure. 100 points seems a lot though ;-) Steve |

Certainly less than it would likely cost to buy the abilities with character points I'd imagine.
You just have to weigh up if it's worth it. -------------------- Gordon Court

Or to put it more tactfully than Son of does... They were also brought in because ther weren't enough refs around. It is a much harder task than monstering, and therefore it was felt that it deserved a different reward. If you can turn monster points into ref points, the incentive to ref is devalued again. That said, I can see an argument for 10 MPs = 1 RP for the purpose of regaining a level lost making an item. Lucy In my opinion: There are few uses for ref points (too few uses!). Those few uses should be preserved and not added to what monster pts can do - otherwise ref points stop actually being a bonus. I would also like to add my support to the DNBUOD idea, my spirit warrior (currently looking like the front line for the max 500 on saturday - uh oh) is clearly defined by his spiritsword - holding a normal sword he is just a rubbish fighter, putting it down he is a rubbish priest, but with a spiritual blade - er... he is a rubbish fighter/priest!
If only I could make it safe on saturday! Oh well. It was nice while it lasted. Brett -------------------- Brett

Well that's a novel idea for monster points I guess, although this reply won't make much sense once the post above has been deleted!
