I would like to suggest the implementation of a new forum. It would be open to Level2 Members only, and only those over 18 (I am assuming it should be fairly straight forward to moderate this? Everyone have to enter their d.o.b when registering correct?) Aside from this intial filtering, the forum should have no moderation.
This would be a place where everyone can moan, bitch and rant about people/things and stuff. Hopefully get some arguments and things. I would it would really help everyone, as people wouldn't get angry with each other, and let it brood etc. As problems could be gotten off their chest. Pretty super duper. Obviously swearing would be allowed, I think that it really helps to articulate anger and annoyance. Opinions? =) |

I'm definitely anti any forum that young players and some young(er) players who have come up to adults can't enter. They're just as much part of the system as anyone over 18 and having a forum they can't enter I would feel excludes them to some degree.
No problem with having something similar away from this site though. Matt |

Does this mean that everything that happens at Labyrinthe should be suitable for 11 year olds? If we accept that some adult games may have parts, themes, or encounters unsuitable for players that young, why should the same not apply to the discussion of those games? -------------------- --

Why shouldn't there be an invitation only off-topic forum? Call it "The Virtual Bickley" or something like that. Lucy |

I don't think its appropriate for 11 year olds to be pretending to kill each other. It only promotes domestic violence and knife crime. J -------------------- No of course I won't ref. Are you mad?

I echo Jaspers sentiments.
Perhap we should ban YP's from using daggers and playign any form of assassin lest we be seen as a training camp for dangerous hoodlums and futre killers. -------------------- Gordon Court

If we accept that some adult games may have parts, themes, or encounters unsuitable for players that young, why should the same not apply to the discussion of those games? I don;t recall suggesting that everything at laby should be suitable for all ages. By your rationale if a player is 16 years old and has been on an "dungeon with adult themes" they would be able to play the game and then not discuss it on a public forum which seems weird. Anyhoo people can set up forums away from these ones if they so desire to discuss those things. They can even discuss the adult themes of a dungeon on an open forum that already exists. I don't really see the need for it to be for over 18s only. I don't like the idea of creating barriers without a very real need. Matt J |

I don;t recall suggesting that everything at laby should be suitable for all ages. By your rationale if a player is 16 years old and has been on an "dungeon with adult themes" they would be able to play the game and then not discuss it on a public forum which seems weird. Matt J There are guidelines about what is and isn't appropriate behaviour/roleplay for characters or topics for dungeons published in various places. Most sensible adult players abide by those rules, though I have seen a few characters (one of them being yours) who are in breach of those guidelines. I have heard of players/characters who are consistently felt to be 'inappropriate' being reported to the desk. I've also been on adventures where the guidelines are bent/ignored for specific encounters. Almost every case I can think of where this has been the case has been either a closed adventure or an extended length adventure (which already have minimum age restrictions), where the referees know their party and are aware of what the players are comfortable with, and what they are not. So, whilst it is possible that young(er) players might play "dungeons with adult themes", I don't think any competent ref would set such a dungeon if they knew there was someone who was comparatively young, or inexperienced at LRP, or just new to the club playing - or indeed if they had a random party they didn't know. So the situation shouldn't arise. Lucy |

*Sigh* I don't know why finger pointing has become necessary or even relevant but I suppose that's inevitable on forums.
My only point has been that I like the "official" side of the game to be seen to be as inclusive for all ages as possible...which includes the forums etc. I accept dungeons are not run on this basis and tend to cater for people on a case by case basis with Referees making intelligent decisions about what is and isn't appropriate. If you want to have a forum which discusses things so extreme that it cannot be viewed by under 18s (and I'm struggling to think of what these topics could include) why not just have an unofficial forum away from this website? I really don't see why my suggestion is being blown up as being far more than it is...oh no wait a minute...this is an internet forum. I can clearly see why my argument is being blown up Matt J |
