The superheroes gathered ready to sally forth after the usual briefing from Professor Jeremiah X. We were to travel to Ishma and break the Astral Anchor placed there by the cult of Astral Hippies – dark malevolent beings (but quite relaxed about the whole “Evil” thing)

The band of Superheroes lead by Mr Fantastic included Lady Serin, Aces, Mr 5000 of Coris Mount, Mr Void, Mr Primus, Prince Rat, The High Priest, Scarecrow Killer and me, The Scribbler

Prince rat screamed “Rat attack” and dived through the portal. The rest of the super heroes had a chat, wondering if Ishma would cause Prince Rat issues and then moved through

Gathering on the other side we waited and we waited… after a few minutes, Mr Incredible said “Well, the rumours aren’t true, Ishma doesn’t kill you after 10 seconds” and we moved on. We found Prince Rat in discussion with some locals, explaining he was royalty. “You must be Natstar” one commented. Prince Rat huffed and stalked off

After some initial encounters with locals, including a terse moment by the local water diviners discovered Mr Fantastic could summon water (well of course he could…) we entered a cave network.

The inhabitants of the cave, cave wights or Calibrim became extremely interested in Mr 5000 and to the amazement of our group he disappeared in a huff of magic back to Coris Mount. The remaining 9 of us continued

The legendary “Encounter 5” then arrived. The shard of the God had a simple plan, spiritual invisibility defeated Lady Serin and Aces while Earth shield stopped many others. The shard then set upon us, releasing the invisibility to completely heal itself and recasting as needed. Perhaps it was our relentless attack, perhaps it was our skill at arms, or perhaps it was the vast amount of heavenly ale consumed by the shard the night before but eventually we were victorious. It managed to drive off our High Priest – something about haven and a biscuit was all we heard as he disappeared, take several limbs and render many of us weak and weary.

We pressed on.

The army of bugs was defeated when a vision of why they were so angry revealed their queen was mastered. High Priest was teleported into the queen’s lair and released her thus sedating her stopping the bug problem. Sadly being mercenaries there was confusion and fighting anyway, eventually stopped when their tunnels were closed with a golden forcewall.

Into the heart of the Astral Hippies lair we marched, flew and slithered. Aces’s hand was trumped by a pair of TODs and a pair of Cause Criticals and he slumped lifeless to the ground (happy the hand against him had been presented with the TODs first). Price Rat jumped up, “A chance for me at last” he squeaked and quickly kissed (with tongues) Aces, breathing life back into him

At this point, Scarecrow Killer was questioned closely “what is it that you actually do?” was asked and “A bit of this and a bit of that” was the reply. Unsatisfied a greater communication was used to discover this superhero’s powers. It turns out the all knowing spirits agree that a scout dabbler officially does “a bit of this and bit of that”…

Still Scarecrow Killer proved his worth when scarecrow’s attacked us.

Breaking the anchor we left to try out the local cuisine and head on to the orient!

It turns out the orient is full of ratfolk (who knew). “I am King Rat” said Prince Rat. “Hello mighty Natstar” was the response and “I thought you would be bigger”. Prince Rat huffed and stalked off

Later, we met a great local hero who wanted to die by Seppuku but apparently the local boss (called himself an Emperor but don’t they all…) had refused to let anyone do this so he asked to die in a duel one on one. Prince Rat stepped up, cast evocation after evocation and they fought. It was a mighty duel of awesome might and strength and eventually Prince Rat was victorious. The fallen oriental hero was quite large and blocking the road so we rolled into a ditch and we moved on

Just after this, the superhero Mr Primus had his chest caved in by ogres. Mr Fantastic brought him back to life (of course he could) and we pressed on.

Despite the rather excellent report from that Special Inquisitor Eldir, we fell into the trap of releasing the line of spiritual mastery and allowing the skull to cast the Stairway to Death upon us all. Various squeaks and howls of pain were heard and then we discussed what to do. We took a bit too long so the skull gave us all another Stairway! Blessing Scarecrow Killer’s scarf (lucky he was there as a bit of this and a bit of that included providing necessary clothing) we covered the skull. Mr Fantastic wasn’t satisfied with this solution so mantically shattered the skull (of course he could…)

Defeating various wards (even those in the Blinkered Eye), various creatures and even acquiring a nice artefact, we eventually made it into the inner sanctum. Here we fought 3 creatures with shield that needed defeating before they could be hurt. The shields required mind darts and a negation spell to defeat (which Mr Fantastic managed with ease). We found and broke the final Astral Anchor and left victorious.

Mr Void felt a little unloved all day suggesting he might leave the Superheroes team and Lady Serin discovered being a pure priest with claws wasn’t as satisfying as it might be when many things didn’t have a spirit. Mr Fantastic was well, fantastic and Prince Rat took a step towards becoming King Rat. For myself, The Scribbler, well I took some notes which I present here.
