By retaining the history, preserving events of the last 10 years and adding rather than replacing/rewriting. don't publish the current state of play, this might sound controversial in a sourcebook, but the current state of play is already present in the forums and in adventures. Just provide history. Stuff whicvh has happened, stuff which isnt going to change.

Extending the Time Lines of stuff could be real cool.

A mix of Heroes and LRP events would be neat.

i'd like to see the historical timeline bit brought up to date with all the major events of the last ten years or however long added to it.

Posted by: LucyH Sep 16 2010, 08:19 AM

- Rewrite the city descriptions - not the history, but the current state stuff.

- More primal physics, just with a clearer "this is what you know Ic / OOC" split attached smile.gif

- something on the eth'Aderach & Lauiu for those of us who have forgotten.

- A glossary of IC terms.

- A better map

Where is the quad in that?

Imperial Legions
Details of The Thrice / Shedeff forests
Most up to date Elf stats
Night Soil
Rat Folk updates (or removal, which is my preference)
Bourthek

Murder of Michael I and other notable events should go in.

Ratfolk are nothing like as bad as "oh no they're not really bad, just angst-filled and misunderstood" undead.
Undead should be guilt-free cannon fodder, not people.

Getting back on track,

Myron needs to be written/re-written, and Rob/Giles probably have some Oelhave stuff from the Laundry Myths.

There are 2 things I'd like to see...

A bigger type face so that the miopic amongst us can actually read the book

and a Standardised format for the way classes are written out. It's weird to have to scan a page looking for Max AC when it should really be written in the same place every time.

Mr Cox I can send you the template for the New Version of Realm of Glass that I've been sporadically working on should you wish.

It was however desigend as pure sourcebook (in a Divine Guidance style) and had none of the stat stuff.

It was also updated with the "Imperial Cultural" stuff garnered from articles Alan Morgan wrote for the Companion.

But can we make it actually right? What we experience in LRP is whats right, not necessarily what goes in heroes

Define "right"? The cultural stuff is the stuff that provides back drop, which with all the CC work will become more and more entwined with how different parts of the Empire is viewed. The current stuff listed in the Realm of Glass is quite dated now, we've had ten years worth of dungeons set on Primus and 10 years worth of Heroes turns. All of which have contributed to bring things forward.

Once Refs use the CC facilities general settings for dungeons will quickly become more and more unified. For example it was really cool that three Bildteve dungeons I was involved in recently had near identical descriptions of the same location from three different referees. Normally you'd expect three totally different takes on the basic descriptions.

The cultural stuff is stuff about Imperial Structure, The Peons, The Noblility and so on (the kind of stuff in the Gameworld section here)

I like that idea - have a pure background book, and all the stats collected in one place in the same format. Stats get revised more often than background and it's a pain remembering where the current version of the different bits of rules text is.

It also allows for an annual /bi-annual stat update with things like the new character options from the Almanac, that dioesn't require a re-write of an entire book.

Lucy

Posted by: Pants Sep 16 2010, 12:44 PM

Yes Dan we know.

But with all the recent efforts I would have thought you would be a little less defensive. Hote fleshes out the background the cities, the politics and LRP shapes how those are seen in the world and reality.

Even more so we have our own system background and culture not stolen from other games or sources.

LRP does give cities background and flesh like the new Drowe stuff Stuart did. But so does HoTE. There is no difference between Stuart changing the Drowe on a set of dungeons and Alan changing PM through turns. It all adds and compliments each other.

Murderer tongue.gif

More history and current events, less stats. Please please keep all the interesting background stuff and timelines - it's a constant source of inspiration and information that helps flesh out backgrounds and link together adventures into a cohesive gameworld rather than a collection of pocket planes doing their own thing.

Discussions some time ago came to the conclusion that it would be far better to split the stat stuff into their own books and have all the background stuff elsewhere. This seemed a good thing especially as I quickly realised that there really is a huge wealth of stuff out there and it would be jam packed.

Using the template I developed for recent publications Mark actually put together a book with the stat stuff decanted into that (A proto races book) I'm not sure what happened to it though. It certainly deserves publication at some point.

That said its about time Divine Guidance was updated - which can be done relatively easily. Church of Mortai and Church of Iron and Empire being obvious ones to get some updated entries and no doubt Elbereth could be expanded on into a book of its own now!

Posted by: MarkCox Sep 16 2010, 06:21 PM

Indeed I did a few years ago seperate all the source material out and have a 'source book' and 'stats book' -
It got messy because there are some things that ought to go with the source material - eg Noble Status' etc

I have 'Races of the Empire' book - doesn't anyone else? ph34r.gif

I believe the plan was scuppered when I realised I dont have a Dominion of the Circle / Land of the Seven Winds Book in Word.

If there genuinely is no source file around for either of these, I can OCR them for you (with the copyright holder's permission) - it'd only take an hour or so each. It'd cost you naught but a favour. ph34r.gif

Most definitely so...! Although someone would need to scan through and correct the occasional error.

I assume the copyright holder for DotC is Jan, since it says "© Mannerism" - there's no such explicit statement on LotSW, but I'm guessing the same? I'd prefer to get an explicit permission to do so, before going ahead...

I'm happy to take suggestions - either here or via email -

Ideally i'd like the published cost to remain the same - so something that fits into those costs.

The Region reports being compiled as part of the CC work will do something like this in due course, two versions, one is the ref one which is available at the moment on request by referees, the second being a player one which will be forum published.

Oelhave... that delightful combination of Danish and Swahili. I still remember the excitement as Lucy dropped off the vast number of english:foriegn dictionaries to me at the caves, and then the discussions with Alan as to how we were going to make up our own words for everthing using a creole of northern germanic languages, pig latin and swahili.
