I like the idea of shorter dungeons.

I'll come and crew in various ways when the lockdown has lifted and while still being a newbie compared to you guys, would love to ref some dungeons at the low level. I've got some ideas half written.

Cheers,
Nick.

How about some (strictly enforced) play-one/monster-one low levels?

While I'm not anti the increase in cash minimum now, a couple of years ago it would have made me playing the already infrequent amount I did impossible (or at least significantly more of a strain). I wouldn't want younger people, especially people coming from young players who begin having to pay for themselves, to stop playing for financial reasons.

Maybe a discount for students. Or better yet a discount on playing for those who commit to crew x times a month?

Cheers,

Surely you just increase the price but no the cash minimum - if you’re crewing frequently your entry point to play is the same and those who don’t have time just pay a bit more...

Richards idea to rustle up some sections isn’t a bad one at all, I’ll go back to something I said years ago but actually reffing on the day is easy... writing is not, the rewards are totally screwed as a result... I still think refs should get upto 50 writing credits and 20 credits for the actual day of being a ref - makes the rewards proportional and hopefully reduces the occasions you see people write fag packet dungeons for a quick £50

How about something like a prepaid ticket stub...

Prepay for say.. 10 games to be used through out the 12 months after purchase when you can make it and get the 11th and 12th for half price.
You wouldn't be able to use credits to reduce the cost, and it gives the CMT an instant cash boost that you can then appreciate as a player through the year as you spot the changes that you have helped fund.

It allows those who have better jobs, and perhaps don't crew so often, to really contribute AND be rewarded whilst also showing others like students, young players and new players how great the Laby Community is and make it something they would want to be part of as well.

So I agree re price rise

But we need fresh blood and crew

So I would suggest that

- students have either a lower price or no cash minimum (which in turn means they are monstering more)

- Young player dungeons are kept cheaper / reduced in price - making it a more regular activity which becomes a habit / culture which means they transition in to adult players

- a campaign scheme - if monsters and refs sign up to a 4(?) part campaign and do all the parts they get a bonus item (so keeping cash out of the picture) I also like the idea of campaigns where the playeera complete 3 out of the 4 get a pre agreed campaign item related to the plot that falls outside of the isp system / doesn’t use the dungeons isp. Not talking big - cool things

I will keep my thinking hat on

I would almost definitely find myself playing less with an increased cash minimum as a someone who primarily uses credits to play for their games

I am also not against a price rise but also need to be aware that Labyrinthe is more expensive than most other LARP systems.

I also wonder how much this puts off new players especially amongst younger players and less well off players.

Labyrinthe has a bit of an "elitist / clique" reputation and I am sure that price also adds to this rep.

A possible solution could be a new player introduction program? like 12 months of half price dungeons. Could also throw in a condition of must crew once a month to get half price offer whilst still getting crew incentives to use post the 1st year or something. I feel like after a year "a season in LARP" that most people are so invested they don't want to leave.

I am up for a price rise but don't want new players put off from giving Labyrinthe a go. I think we need more new players in the system that feel welcome and find it as good value as the existing player base.

I also don't think new players are aware of the crew incentives and how this can really help fund their hobby. Maybe this needs marketing out to the LARP community?

Just a couple of thoughts.

In regard to new players (and possibly other players as well) it might be an idea to put up something to show how to provide feedback and that it's welcomed

I wouldn't want a new or probably more likely a newish player to stop playing because they went on a dungeon which wasn't written very well, if it all (i appreciate some non written dungeons can turn out fine), and then to silently disappear without having an opportunity to talk to the management who may help remedy any grievances.

It seems tough to get new folks so if they don't come back it's worth finding out why i think

You guys know better than me, and I have said this before, so I apologise for bringing it up again, but I think Rich's idea of running Pre-8ths as introductions to new players may help get new people on board and would be great starting points for future campaigns.

I found it took me a while, possibly even a year, to get settled into things again and to feel comfortable with how the system 'runs'. I could be wrong, but I think this maybe a barrier to new people coming down.

I know there has been introduction dungeons on certain theme days but perhaps the option of one a month wouldn't hurt, and the dungeons written, if not used, could always be carried forward to the following month. If I were booked to crew and it got cancelled, I wouldn't mind, I'd just jump onto another dungeon.

Also, the idea of monster one half of the day, play the other, would work well with that system. I'm not in a rush to gain points, it's the story and connection with the other players that I enjoy the most and it would be great way for people to learn.

This is all of course, after the pandemic.
