It was now late in the morning of the gathering and still the preparations by the Church of Iron and Empire had continued. The one thing the visions had made clear: Bring Axes and supernatural fire. The King’s Shadow looked around, it seemed that there was a complete lack of Axes. Not even the Dwarf Gavalar had one. Of course it wasn’t likely that Zardos, Marcus or Ghulson would have brought one, they didn’t exactly carry weapons. The Shadow vanished and shortly after returned with a small hatchet which he handed to Dread…
“The Lake of the Cor’Saim lies within Myth and Legend. We have to travel into the very Myths of the Northern Tribes. It is a Lake sacred to the tribes that dwell near it and it is death to any who touch it. It is said to be one of the sources of the Cor’Saim itself” Gavalar explained. “Only the Tribes can grant access, and we need to find a guide. Some divinations and transportation rites later the party had found themselves in the Far North, then the Utter North. Despite all the warnings the ferocity of the cold still surprised them. At one point Gavalar found himself trapped in the body of a Zombie. It was suffering from hypothermia, a dead creature slowly freezing to destruction and too cold to release Gavalar from its form, he had to resort to asking one of their number to beat it to death so he could step out of it... Zardos, slain by trolls who had returned having been scared off by fire earlier, was now reduced to slowly trudging in the form of a Ghoul, his corpse suffering from hypothermia too cold to move any quicker than a zombie and barely able to do little more than defend himself with a slow paralysing touch. Cathbad had felt the displeasure of Ghulston and nature as he inadvertently allowed a group of Direwolves to be slain after Zardos had very slowly ambled up to them and paralysed them one by one, caught completely off guard after Cathbad had used his pacts with nature to persuade them that the group were neither food nor a threat. Ch’Gan had been in part frustrated by the lack of creatures with minds. The Utter North seemed to lack living things. Finally the Lake had been reached and further disaster as Dread, forgetting the warnings and ignoring the choking cold had stepped into its waters as he had went to sit on the very stone that was scribed with a warning in Ogham that to touch the Lake would bring death to those who touched its waters. He was of course instantly slain by the touch of the Cor’Saim. Still, they had at least kept the Pine Warriors talking long enough for Naga to sneak into the Lake and steal a shard of the needed ice. The King of Deci’s continual suggestions that they all back off to away from the Lake to discuss the matter of the Lake’s sacredness away from the Pine went unheeded. After several attempts to get the party to back off one of the Pine yelled out that they Lake had been desecrated. It was at this point that it dawned on the group that they had long go achieved their aim here and that they should retreat, rapidly. It was at this point that and the King Teleported most of them back to Bildteve… Next stop, a Plane of Fire. -------------------- Will Power - will@labyrinthe.co.uk
