Throughout the city of Port Miere, a tense silence hung. From the moment that the ever-present net tore open, a lissom shadow cascading through it, the trapped citizens watched with trepidation, certain that something fundamental was changing in the city around them. Two hours later, it became bright - bright like Miere had not been in months upon months, even more brilliant than the twisted light of the Enkindled One. The true Sun, the Primal sun, a blazing dawn cresting within the mist of the Mittlenacht. Its effulgent rays streamed through the sky, glittering on the edges of the net that now seemed whole once more.

Those closest to the Citadel heard some of the commotion, a few even spotting the tired but victorious group of mercenaries that stumbled out from the dark building's depths. Another cluster of onlookers, stood in the Docks, watched as a single Reaver appeared in front of the dark ships and raised an ethereal spear aloft - the women and men before her roaring in triumphant victory. And as the tremors shook the city, its gradual return to Primus beginning with the inexorable pull of the Final Dawn, the Reavers seceded from within Port Miere, returning to their ships and remaining there.

In the days that pass thereafter, Port Miere continues its stable shift through the Mittlenacht. No longer forced to hide within the shadows, the Governor's resistance come to the surface and retake control of the city along with the Watch. Cordons are placed around the three remaining anomalies, sealing them off in an attempt to shield the city from their remaining weakness, and the other locations broken and torn within the city are beginning to be repaired at last.

"Soon," the people of Port Miere now say, with determined smiles and stubborn grins. "Soon we will be home."

--

On Primus, where the Xathrean Ocean now meets the land, the Eastern Waystation does not slow its activity. It is decreed by the Lord Inquisitor and his Deputy to be a permanent installation; a lighthouse of a kind, ever watching over the coast, observing the passage of the plane's entropy as it shall soon flow once more into the Grey Tug. Inquisitor Grey is installed as its permanent director, a promotion he takes with characteristic stoicness. Under his watch, the Waystation promises to become not simply a guardpost, but a research centre of some renown - taking many new employees from the shanty towns raised by the refugees of Keys.

Once, and only once, a woman with three green dots on her cheek comes to visit. She is welcomed into the Waystation with an equal mix of open arms and uneasy looks, as she passes into their care a wide, black sheet of stone: Salas's ritual map. It is installed permanently in the Waystation, with plans made to extend it to monitor not only any anomalous threats that may come to threaten Port Miere again, but to further empower the Inquisiton's efforts to monitor the Primal strength of the land.

Then, the map deposited, the woman vanishes. She is not seen again.

--

But a letter does arrive, many days later, delivered by a courier to the Department of Mercenary Affairs and quietly passed along by the new Senator to those whom it concerns.

Well, you did it.

I can't say I doubted it for a moment. Mercenaries are stubborn, after all. Grey tells me Miere is strong enough to weather the collapse of the remaining anomalies - stronger, even, than it was before it deconverged. If that's not a success, I don't know what is. Still. Congratulations. I hope you all go and get very drunk. I managed to wangle a day off for those of you that need it - consider it the last and best use of my former resources. I trust you'll use it on celebrating and not on, you know, going and saving the world again.

Thanks for letting me see it through to the end. I appreciate it. And - He says to tell you that "the thing with the explosion was pretty funny".

Romilda

--

Meanwhile, in an impossible library, a grim-faced ritualist lifts the next page of an ancient tome with wooden tweezers. Dust spills in the air around her, and she wrinkles her nose up, before turning her attention back to the next passage. Around her float a dozen more books, waiting to be read, forming an orderly queue at her behest.

"Alajos," the Princess states sharply, placing her tweezers aside. "Cease loitering and say whatever it is you are here for."

"Have you decided what to do about Delshad?"

Cleophas waves a hand dismissively. "Leave him. Whatever pact he has made, it cannot be undone. The Watcher of the Ages is quite skilled at that sort of thing. It would be purposeless to involve ourselves further."

"As you say, Warden," the Archritualist replies, smoothing down his robes. "What is it that you are working on, anyway?"

He moves towards the books, which suddenly become consumed by darkness run through with veins of silver.

"That is none of your concern, save that you are disturbing it."

"Then I will leave you to it." Alajos turns, pausing after but two steps. "You know, for someone who hates it in here, you haven't left for - what, two months? Three?"

"Get out, Alajos."

He vanishes. Cleophas sighs, and returns to reading the ancient text written decades after she was born.

--

Within a shrine to those dead and lost, but never forgotten, the faithful of Milo and Milora lay a cold body out upon a table. In death, the Exalted Darkness is not imposing. He is just a man - a young one at that, with soft features no longer twisted by wrath or revenge. The last touches of the Shadow of the First Evil are gone from his body, and even his spirit, where it hangs above - inexorably tangled with two others.

"She's right," laments the woman who clutches a pendant in her palm. "It's not going to be easy to separate them."

But they try anyway, spending every precious moment - clutched out from servitude - trying to unravel Louhi from Ilmatar and Ilmatar from Mielikki and Mielikki from Louhi. Late nights, early mornings, and snatches of unauthorised lunchtimes are poured into it. But the souls barely budge; every moment that it seems progress has been made, there is another failure. Another time they have to pull back, for fear of damaging what remains.

And after two weeks, the spirit hanging above Louhi's body fades. They sigh, and Liara returns the body to its safe enclosure.

--

"I just wanted to tell you," she says two days later, sat around a small table in a cluttered and messy kitchen. "Let you know it was all over with. You shouldn't need to worry about anything coming for her now, though I think Theo wants to keep the guard on you, anyway."

The man across from her smiles, before lurching down to the floor. "Thea! Stop it. You'll knock something over again. Come here, silly girl."

"Sef," pronounces the toddler, pointing at the soldier opposite her and her father. "Hep."

Something shifts in Liara's memory. A letter - the untidy scrawl unfolds before her eyes as if she were reading it over again - and a single word. Redemption. The child opposite her stares at her, as if reading her thoughts, and begins to glow with a pure, white light. "No," Liara mumbles to herself, grimacing. "I am not doing that."

Thea wails, and stretches out her hands across the table. "Hel!"

The light that explodes from her blinds them. When she stumbles to her feet, spear out, Liara blinks and manages to see outlines - Olmedun, opposite her, has grasped his daughter in his arms and seems to be holding her against the buffeting wash of her own power. Something on Liara's chest goes hot, then cold, then vibrates - fading as the light does too, leaving the two of them staring dumbfounded at the brilliant grin on the toddler's face.

"Sef!" Thea pronounces, tugging on her father's clothing as if nothing happened.

"I am so sorry," stammers Olmedun, shifting Thea around and shaking his head. "It - happens sometimes, she does things like this. They've become more often, but the priests are helping us understand it."

"And people like me coming in isn't helping. She should be in a normal place with normal people, not mercenaries. Look, I'm - I'm sorry. I'll go, maybe it'll calm her down."

Olmedun protests, but doesn't stop her. Liara all but runs down the street when the door shuts behind her, one hand clutched around her pendant.

--

"She did something. I don't know what. Damnit, I should never have gone there!"

Dusk frowns. "Well," he says, "have you looked at him?"

Murmuring a prayer, Liara releases the body kept safe within the pendant - and stares in astonishment. The light of the miracle ripples before them and leaves in its wake not a slender, male form - but a female one, with sandy hair and beautiful features. Stepping backwards and leaving a space, Liara tries again - a second body, tall and broad and strong, with dark hair and a thick beard. Only on the third time does the original body appear, lying out beside his siblings as if the three of them were young again.

Liara's cursing bounces off the stone walls of the shrine.

"They're separate," Dusk marvels, kneeling beside each of them and opening a channel of contact. No spirits linger within the bodies, nor above them, but each is whole and complete and apart from one another. Their voices sound in the room with a chorus of surprise. "She must have freed them."

--

That afternoon, a small honour guard of mercenaries convey three bodies up to the boarding plank of the largest Reaver ship. No longer twisted with anomalous manifestations, it still cuts an imposing figure within the docks of Port Miere, sails poised to be raised the moment that escape is possible. The Reavers on duty say nothing as they allow the group entrance, parting to open the way through onto the glossy, dark wood deck.

"Brother," sighs the spear of the Reaver Lord as she runs forward to touch the forehead of Mielikki's corpse, then Ilmatar's. "Sister. You shall endure."

And as one, the Reavers behind her sound a chorus of reply.

"You are eternal in the eyes of the Lord."

I want to say a huge thank you not just to Tiffer and Jamie for this event, but to everyone who has monstered over the entire year - from the Final Dawn up until now. Thank you for bringing the story to life and telling it so wonderfully. To the players as well, whether you were there the whole way through or drifted in and out, there wasn't a person who didn't get invested in things in some way. This makes a huge difference as a ref and, no matter how tired of it I was towards the end, I have genuinely enjoyed telling this story with all of you. So thank you.

As always, and for the last time, if people could please send me CC numbers and a note regarding what items you want to keep ASAP that would be great (if you want to keep any - bearing in mind that all the things made from/on the Island are liable to be cursed in some manner when removed from it). I would like to have things wrapped up by Friday at the latest. Email at the address below.

Mercenaries,

Daed Romilda has returned from her Lord's demesne.

Regretfully, she is not well. Thus far all that we can make sense of is that she has seen the Island - we assume this means that she is also aware of its location. We have sent for healers to attempt to cure whatever madness is surely afflicting her, and will care for her within the shielded chambers until you can arrive.

Please attend the Waystation as soon as you can. I will arrange for the necessary recompense via emergency channels.

The abrupt departure of Chosen Achramas and the Inquisitor formerly known as Daedalia Wilton lends the Eastern Waystation a tense, uncertain air.

Diviners and scholars alike continue to try to pinpoint the location of the Island, but to no avail. Their best guesses place it somewhere in the distant southeastern darkness of the Xathrean Ocean - past the Tranquil Chain and the Gallowglass, past the island of Asa Volki, in the distant and unplotted parts of the ocean that form the border between safe waters and the realm of Salas of the Deep.

Salas's ritual map is moved, once again, back into the chamber beneath the Citadel. Guards are posted on the chambers, including some of the map's own construct defences, forming a constant sentinel around the artifact that forms the lynchpin of a final, desperate plan. It is kept open to all from "Wilton"'s group who wish to travel there and study it.

Meanwhile, a small group of envoys quietly travel to the shrine to the Netter. Words are traded, explanations made, and with only minor hesitation the Goddess of the Undersea agrees to permit one person, and one person only, to leave Port Miere before it is time. She demands no payment, but passes into the group's care a single, golden coin...incase they might wish to offer that escapee's soul in return for the service. He would make a fine addition, she says. Born of the sea and returned to it. An amusing trophy. Her presence departs before any answer to her light request can be given.

All that remains is finding a way for the Exalted Darkness to break out - preparing a trap for him when he arrives in Salas's ritual chamber - and waiting for Romilda to return from the Trickster's side.

Now would be a good time to write to the Watcher, and think up what you want the Map to be able to do.

I've just emailed Duncan to ask him to change the finale to one party, which will be a 7.5k as previously mentioned. Sorry we couldn't manage to make it a bigger event - I suspect it's just getting into a busy time of year for people.

We have an a-ref and one monster but could really do with at least one more to make it work well. If people can try and grab one (or two!) that would be really appreciated.

Thanks! smile.gif

One final bump for this - as a reminder if we don't get more people by this Sunday (26th) I will be cancelling the second party.

This will mean that there is not enough time in the day for you to achieve 100% completion. However, the sections that will be missed out are sections that have already appeared on other events (anomalies 27, 29 and 31) - as such, there has already been time to attempt them IC and you are not being penalised for being unable to complete them.

Bump! We've got a monster now, but still not many players. It would be sad (and make the party's life difficult) were this to have to go down to one party, so please do book on this week if you're going to.

On the 2nd December, Tiffer and I are running a 2-party event to form the finale of the Mistbound Campaign, and secure the future of Port Miere.

With so many of the anomalies now resolved, there is one major threat remaining to Port Miere: Anomaly 2. Being the centre of the weakness on Miere, to leave it unresolved will spell death and destruction when Port Miere reconverges at the Final Dawn. But the anchor for Salas's ritual chamber is the last remaining vestige of the previous Dawn - Louhi, the Exalted Darkness, formerly Chosen of the Reaver Lord.

Fortunately, the mercenaries have a plan. They know what Louhi wishes above all else: his sister-mate, Achramas, last of the Chosen Five and beloved devotee of Asa Volki. Achramas has fled to a place known only as the Island, a terrible land of madness - of illithid and deep ones, night gaunts and far worse. Knowing this to be their destination, the mercenaries will allow Louhi to escape Miere, where he is currently trapped, utilising their alliances with the Goddess of the Undersea and the Watcher of the Ages to engineer it. And then, on the Island of Terrors, they will kill him.

Or so they hope.

--

The high party for this event is a 7.5k (contrary to the booking sheets). The lower party is currently booked as a 3k, and we are happy to adjust it slightly based on what people are playing.

At the moment there are only 8 players booked and we have no a-refs nor monsters. If we do not have more players or any monsters by the end of next week (26th November) I will cancel the lower party and it will run as a single party event.

As such, if you want to book on, please do. We have two parties worth of dungeon for you and would really like to get it all included.

I wouldn't advise playing a 2k character, as the majority of the party are two or three times that. I also won't stop you, but it's worth mentioning.

In terms of people booking off, there is a 13th person (Pete) who wants to play. I have told him that if we can find another monster then he can play, and he has offered otherwise to monster. Assuming he hasn't booked to monster one of the other dungeons, I would prefer this to people booking off.

However ultimately however you guys work it is up to you. I haven't been well so having an extra monster would very much help.

My congratulations first of all on a momentously successful expedition to Tivoria. It is good to know that the people there have a new chance at life - and, importantly, that the chance of us or our Divinities being devoured is significantly reduced.

As is the manner of this year, I have some good news and some bad news.

The good news first of all: your reshaping of the Shattered World has neutralised anomalies 30 and 35. The doors to Tivoria remain present there and I imagine will do until it is released from Miere properly - but I understand this will be done with time to avoid harm to either Tivoria or Miere, so there is nothing more to worry about there. Additionally, anomaly 13 is no more - I can only assume your actions resolved the tension between the Netter's pacts and agreements.

I have updated the list of anomalies accordingly and this brings us to a mere nine remaining. With two months still to go, this should be more than enough time. Once again I will suggest that you tackle four anomalies on the 11th of next month - 11, 28, 32, and 37.

The bad news is that this morning, at an early hour, Chosen Tapio was killed. However, his death did not weaken Chosen Achramas as the others have done. Scrying has suggested - limited as it is in its ability to glean information about the Exalted Darkness - that Tapio was not devoured, simply murdered. Based on his last known location we have attempted to recover his body, but there was none to be found. We think it likely that it was destroyed to prevent his resurrection.

Following this, Chosen Achramas recreated Tapio's body through the same process used to resurrect their brother. However, the Breath of Life was ineffectual upon him. We sent for a priest capable of casting the Animate Life, and even one capable of casting Restore Life on those of questionable morals. None worked. We can only conclude that Chosen Tapio has, unfortunately, run out of vitae - and that he will now be reborn as is the way of things.

Regrettable as it is that he is dead, I cannot help being relieved that Chosen Tapio was not consumed (a fact that I can only attribute to the Devourer's transformation). To add his power - and specifically the capacity to heal - to the Exalted Darkness's already not-inconsiderable arsenal would make it even more difficult to resolve the original anomaly.

I will, as ever, continue to keep an eye on Chosen Achramas as is my duty.

The Wordspeaker held his gloved hands over the book and looked at the Word before him.

Stood amidst the presence of six divine beings, Their forms flourishing within the place where They were born, and died, and would be born again, he took a deep breath. This was it. This was the moment where he found out whether he was capable of doing what was right. What was best for the land and its people. What was good.

He spoke the Word, and shadows lunged for his form, the wrath of the Imbaiu reaching claws out towards him - but he was already gone.

And as he faded, so did the Remnants of Tivoria: the hundred thousand echoes who had been gathered by the Netter. Understanding their need for passage, She released them - and one by one they tumbled to the ground in a flurry of nets. A painful heartbeat passed. Then, like the unfurling wings of a phoenix, fuelled by the vitae of the Wordspeaker's sacrifice, each of them began to reappear.

They were not the same; some remembered, and some did not. Some were older, younger, better or worse. But every single one of them was alive once more, given a second chance at life by the Recreation of their very souls. As they reappeared, so too did Celesta, reborn into His original form. Though far weaker than His siblings, He nonetheless wove His way amongst Tivoria just as They had.

And within the Netter's grasp, piece by piece, the remains of Tivoria began to reshape themselves into a new form.

On a note which I am certain will please you, I believe that as long as some of you travelling to Tivoria are attuned, your entire group will be able to enter the door - thus, there should be no reason for you to repeat the previous 'tests'. Likewise you may as well enter through the cleared door, since it transpires that all of the Tivorian fragments are connected.

For what it is worth, my opinion is that at the very least the Devourer should be destroyed. Not that to destroy a Divine is any simple task, nor that I know a method of doing so - but I truly see no benefit in His continued existence, and a great deal of disbenefit.

Hello!

I was going to come and say hello to all of you in person but then I realised that that would be tedious and boring and actually I have better things to do with my time than chase after mercenaries sooo...

Not that I'm not very happy to be talking to you. Or writing. Yes, that. Heehee. Right. Yes. I got your paper! She says thank you. Well, what She actually said was 'oh yes, this will do - well done, little one' but you know that's basically thank you or at the very least it's thank you from me and I'm part of Her so - yep!

Now for what I promised you. Two questions, one of which you've already asked, the other you can ask me whenever you need (if you just um say my name a bunch I'll hear - eventually, I get distracted easily).

Question the oneth! So this Louhi person who it turns out is absolutely awful has made a deal with the Watcher because haha, the Watcher. What they agreed is this: the Watcher will teach Louhi how Rachane works. How He consumes and devours, how He transforms what He consumes into part of Himself. This was taught in the form of a ritual which Louhi could then use, but it only works on people who are kin to him, because that's also Rachane's favourite - um - food. Not food. Gods. But you know what I mean. Yeah.

Sooo in return, each time nasty Louhi wants to perform one of these rituals, he's gotta do the Watcher a favour. And cause I promised to tell you everything, I even managed to work out what those were! Lucky you. So the first time was pretty simples because Louhi just put a bunch of the Watcher's weird stalker gems in some places in Port Miere. The second time, he built a shrine to the Watcher in one of the broked places you call anomalies. And the third time he summoned Khurshid to Port Miere which I mean is kind of awful but also really useful but you know that because you left Her there, haha.

The only other other thing I know is that currently the Watcher is in debt to Louhi because that third task, summoning Khurshid, he hasn't been paid for yet. Or I mean he's got the power to do the ritual but he hasn't done it yet? But he's definitely going to. I'm not sure when because the future is wibbly like that, sorry. Even She can't be absolutely certain.

And She thinks that Louhi wants to try it once more but um I guess that's not surprising to you. She doesn't know what the Watcher will want for that one. As soon as She knows I'll tell you because that's part of the deal but obviously I might not know till afterwards. Scrying about people who can't be scried about is kinda tricky even when you're a Goddess of Knowledge and whatnot. Well not whatnot. I don't think She'd want me to call Her - okay you get the idea.

So there you go! I'll be heeeere listening for when you have another question. Just yell!

Elia,
Angel of the Almighty Rock
And Whatnot

Bump to ask if the people who have said they are coming to monster can email Rich to officially book so we know who to expect - especially so food can be sorted and we can make sure everyone can get to the site, etc. Please do this even if you're only able to come for a day, it makes a huge difference in terms of planning.

Isteed has done an amazing job, doubling our monsters in the space of 24 hours. However this still only gives us four once they're booked - so we could really do with several more to make it fun to monster and to challenge the party.

There's an overview/background document already available for monsters to read, and more coming through this week.

Bumping this thread too, because the only thing worse than an event with no monsters is trying to motivate yourself to write an event with barely any monsters...

I would like to write challenging stats and interesting parts specifically for my crew, so please consider booking to come along, as it will greatly improve the quality of the event. smile.gif

I have found myself able to scry about Tivoria, but not about the Great Spirits - other than those things that were widely known of them.

Following your trip to the Shattered World - or Tivoria, as I suppose we are now able to call it - I have been monitoring the presence of the Pantheon of Seven in Port Miere. I am concerned, as I am sure you all are, that we must strike a balance between resolving the anomalous threats to the city and discovering what the presence of the Pantheon means for Primus as a whole.

This has been made all the more urgent by a message I was brought by one of the Waystation's accumulated residents earlier today. As you are no doubt aware, we have been housing a few refugees and others who have fallen victim to events in Miere - those capable of leaving the city, that is. One of these persons is Alinafe, an angel that you rescued from within the city some time ago. He has this evening told me that he is able to feel his Lord's presence again, for the first time since the Devourer's assault upon Him. I escorted Alinafe to the map, through which we observed that Lady Chibueze is no longer shielding Lord Chisomo as She has been - and more worryingly, that the Haven upon Them is beginning to fade.

This has led me to conclude that it is imperative that we resolve the issues with the Pantheon of Seven as soon as possible. I think we are all in agreement that the Devourer should not be permitted to continue consuming His kin; we have quite enough Divine whose demesnes are corruption and destruction as it is. To this end I would like to propose the following timetable.

A month from now, or sooner as time permits, you make a second trip to Tivoria. From the reports I have read thus far it would seem that the Pantheon are even more inextricably tied to that plane than any of us had thought. I sincerely doubt it will be possible to stop the Devourer without the knowledge contained therein - or without engaging some of the more drastic plans like sending Him after the Shadow of the First Evil and hoping they kill one another in the process. Thus, Tivoria must be the first port of call. I will begin making the necessary arrangements.

This gives us two more months to resolve the remaining anomalies in Port Miere. Given the number remaining I believe this is more than enough time - plus, I add with all the optimism I can gather, some extra room to deal with any other problems that crop up in the meantime. At worst, I will simply hire a larger group of mercenaries close to the Dawn to ensure as much as possible is resolved.

As and when you are able, do let me know what you all wish to do regarding Elia's offer of trade, and anything else you wish to do to follow up on from yesterday.

Huge thank you to Pete for booking off, and apologies that you had to do so - plus thank you to both Pete and Tiffer for being patient with the Giant Pile of Plot + the party repeatedly being in a single encounter that didn't involve the monsters for 45+ minutes. This is why I'm not supposed to play parts wink.gif

He'll be back before you know it.

Tai's late to a lot of things, but he wouldn't miss his own wedding.
