Labyrinthe Forum _ Church of Dead Heroes _ Start of a Prophecy

Posted by: Onasuma Nov 21 2014, 12:45 PM

Greetings once again friends of The Shirel,

I am saddened to be in need of asking for your aid once more - as I know you are busy people who I am sure are devoting as much time as you can to our cause - but recent issues have arisen. You will know full well how founded on Prophecy much of our lives are and, while we were believing we were merely on the edge of the changing of the age, we now fear that another Prophecy may be coming true at the same time.

In our legends, when the second age heroes of the time had succeeded in the trials of ages (something I believe you have completed for our age), their reward took the form of knowledge. While cryptic as these things tend to be, they told of a great beast from below our plane, sealed away by The Creator, which would one day escape. This would be marked by the laying of a dark black egg, speckled with silver laid at each of the great lakes. We have, this very morning, witnessed such a sign.

I know it is a great ask, but our resources are being readied for war, we do not have the ability to spare people of the strength we need to investigate this further, so we must once again turn to you, and ask for your aid.

With blessing of... well, I'm not sure anymore... We'll go with Tril for now.

Yours,
Ka'Van

(Comms are open, but be reasonable about it.)

Dear Faithful,

I have performed some scrying, thrown some runes and wandered through the Dreaming.

We should help these people, and the first step would be to find these eggs mentioned. This news will spread, and interested parties will flock to them.

We would need a way to safely carry an egg, without damaging it. Other useful things would be food, methods to stop creatures flying, and the capacit to cause harm with brown magic.

I cannot scry about the beast, but rumours and prophecy say that it is an entity known as the Broken Strix, a blood fuelled bird. It was sealed divinely beneath the plane, but once it has escaped, there would not be a way to reseal it without mending the massive fissure caused.

We will meet in 11 days, and assist. In the meantime, who will be free to assist? It is important I know who will be in attendance. If others wish to scry then feel free, or if you have questions you need only ask and I will cast the runes or commune further.

Andric
High Priest

Tai? Did he sign up in the end? I know I nearly had him join from our time together in Tarneth.

A sword and shield is always appreciated.

I'll bring a wooden box and cloth to wrap an egg in - should be enough to keep it safe

I did ask around about a sword of earth magic but they are ridiculously expensive, far more than I have.

I imagine the halt prayer will stop flying creatures unless they are spiritless

Anyway, see you in a week

Thalion
PS I do not believe Tai is turning up sadly, which is a shame because he would have guaranteed success

Don't worry too much about a brown magical sword. I will likely be placing my vitae within the dream of a Mage of earth and be personally joining you.

The halt prayer only reaches 9 feet, but I'm sure we will have methods to deal with it, so don't worry.

See you soon,

Andric

Thanks Vinny.

I could do with a magic sword as it goes so wouldn't say no, but I'm sure your talents are best reserved for more interesting things?

If it doesn't mean you miss out on a better opportunity, then I'd love a brown magical broadsword. How much?

8k for you if it has brown mana in it

Can bind against death if required for no extra cost for a Knight.

I am intending to make something a little more spectacular as well but this would be a useful 'warm up'

To all attending Sunsday

Greetings all, looking forward to meeting you all. Tai won't be with us, which is a shame but we can do our best and make him proud.

Anyway, at some point we are likely to meet a Priest of the Blood Bird. He can embody the spirit of this blood bird which will act like a shield against attack and require cutting away before we can deal with the priest. However, the person destroying this embodiment is slain by its death vengeance - I saw them being cut to death by thousands of small cuts. The priest was at this point then made whole as well (which is just lovely...)

Suggest we have a chat before setting out about "the plan" and be ready for when this priest arrives.

Sure. As long as it's no problem, I would hate to waste your talents on something simple when you could be doing something spectacular.

Can you bind it so I could use it once, chuck it in a cupboard and it's still there in a couple of years? I believe you get a good eight goes out of them these days.

Thanks, if there is anything you need from me in return you need only ask.

Right, I am just making preparations, final communications and so on and found the following.

This 1000 cuts thing, it is not a death vengeance. So we need to be careful. The only way we can really defend against this, is by the use of a golem. Now, my first thought was to bind my dream into a golem - however a book then fell off my shelf with some information Lucius, Milly and the others gained, about some crystal golems trapped within the dirt?

Lucius/Milly/others, could you expand on this? How do you think this might be relevant to us and what we are dealing with? I was reading something about crystals being turned into an army?

I'd look at the notes we have made already Andric.

Okay, so I suspect others will recal more but here is some detail to try and help those that follow:

The tavern on Lucius's island with the shrine at the back is situated in exactly the right spot to get to Kryl's (spelling?) temple. If you have the means to plane shift, this is a useful way to avoid a dangerous nacht walk

The tombs have guardians that act in a very aggressive manner towards those that travel with necromancers. Here we recovered a "hand" of very dangerous beast charged with destruction of all life on the place but locked away by the birdmen saints. The blade is living and useful for slaying those with death vengeances as they strike the blade not the wielder.

We broke a rite of stone which means any golems you meet in the land now move much more quickly

Many of cultists. priests and followers we fought could voluntarily end their own lives with an unholy word. Doing so sent their power to their god. If a priest of the god is closeby, it instead went to the priest and then onto the god. Typically, they fought us to the point of death and then used this word. There was a lot of blood related nastiness going on - draining, rites and pacts of blood etc.

The evil birdmen have a wide variety of training and seem to bind a lot of spells with spirits. The ones I fought, which were potent vampires, also struck with great force and bound a miracle of soul lance to each blow. Birdmen also seemed very good at ripping your arms off in a single blow and even cutting your chest in twaine

Hungry dead (could have been ravenous dead) were 5th rank and on every blow instantly degenerated your limbs

We faced a warding that inflicted mortal wounds (like 2 critcal wounds). It was not removed by the application of a total heal prayer but only hurt the first person across it. It was however, reset when a trap went off in the next room.

In general, it is quite interesting to note there are 2 sets of adversaries at work here. The first are your (more common) "we want to rule the place" evil nasty people. The second set are just there to fight and cause conflict. Not because they are evil and bad but more generally because the belief in this world is only through strife is greatness born. The crystal golems are examples of this second set. The being held by 2 wardings is another (used to be 3 but we broke one of them in order to speak to it)

Plenty of power in this place - death vengeances glorore, causing miracles, fire oh and a golem of brown and black mana that hurt you with what I can only describe as a focused dark bolt each time it hit you, after it stuck you to the floor with brown magic (which was lovely...)

There are 7 eggs that can be used to feed this dark bird - each was created a few weeks back by binding the souls of people into them. These souls are in torment. Breaking the egg does release the souls but also empowers the bird so we did not do this to the 2 we recovered. So I understand the priest Kryl has 1 egg and one of the factions has another. The other 3 eggs are either taken by the blood bird or still available for collection as I have 2 eggs. We didn't really agree what to do with the 2 I have. Happy to drop them with Kryl or Andric. I prefer Andric because the Kryl temple was ransacked and did not seem particulary secure.

Andric - let me know

If possible could someone provide myself or Andric with the blade and eggs mentioned above.

Lucius

Posted by: DavidFisher Jan 13 2015, 08:12 PM

I have both eggs and the sword - happy to hand them over. The sword is bound to me but I am hopeful you can benefit from it. It is alive (being a creatures claw or hand) so you can't use blink spells or anything like that while carrying it. If you are able to return the sword if it isn't broken then I would be grateful but it isn't important

A few extra bits.
The wardings around the creature in the cave of eyes. We released the one of earth magic and the other two were spirit and mind. I got the feeling the creature could be released and defeated but it would take a great deal of effort and proficiency - something a more potent group could achieve

Just a reminder that if you need to go to the burial grounds, they don't like necromancers

That is about it

Good luck

Thalion
