Undead had been seen coming out of the Evergreen forest, attacking villagers and disrupting the daily transfer of timber, furs, dyes and herbs to imperial cities to the south from the main town of Cengarn.

Steward Tewdric had sent a band of mercenaries to investigate sightings at the village of Little Rosehue, and before long the grisly news of the decimated settlements there and at Lower Willowsley reached the ears of surrounding villagers.

At Greater Rosehue, people mourned lost family and friends and raised drinks to those they loved. Gant the woodcutter was the centre of attention as the only living witness from there to the mercenary band, his imagination stretched to the limits as he recounted descriptions of who he could remember. Having tracked back to the Little Rosehue once he had heard of the problem cleared, he was able to describe the litter of axe-hacked, battered and tempest-battered corpses and skeletons scattered across the settlements and connecting paths, testament to the iron determination of a hired mercenary band that meant business.

In the small drinking tent erected in the village under construction at Pineglade, prayer was given to Nesir to ensure the life energies of those who passed away were given back to the land, thus completing the circle of life. Toasts were also raised to Eammon, their resident priest who’s protections had seemingly meant they had escaped the ravages that had otherwise encircled them...

And at Upper Willowsley, many villagers still cowered in fear of the change that had been affected by the rise of Nesir, whilst the few merchants based there rubbed their hands in glee at the increased wealth that would follow from the concentration of trade through a reduced number of villages. News that Galreth had been slain had raised hopes of some of the villagers who traditionally paid homage to Solis, quickly to be dashed by the merchants who proclaimed that Namnasir himself would be coming down from Sellaville to oversee some new developments...
