[PRIVATE TO THE FAITHFUL - SHIELDED]
I note with some alarm that a retainer to House Hylos has just become a Senator. Whilst I have met this individual, and found him to be perfectly pleasant, he must be indebted and subservient to Maxinder Hylos by the very nature of his roles. We may wish to be even more cautious about the Empire than has previously been the case. Ignatius |

If you mean Senator Crepitus, Prowl, that would be a very bad idea.
For what it is worth, I have corresponded with some of those whom I know and trust within the Imperial hierarchy (their numbers are limited, but they exist). I have at least registered my concerns. Ignatius |

What's the problem? If he's a bad man then what's the concern with killing him?

Firstly, he is not a bad man, as far as I am aware. He is under the control of very bad people.
Secondly, even if he were, slaughtering people with whom we disagree and who are in positions of Imperial power without regard to the consequences would, very rapidly, lead to a war in which Gothiel would be sacked and thousands of innocent people killed. Those strike me as relatively good reasons. Ignatius |

My apologies Ignatious,
Could you clarify your concerns then, I am new to the faith and maybe I've missed something? My thanks. Lucious Lux |

Please accept my apologies instead - that was rather curt of me.
In brief, my concerns are that Maxinder Hylos, who is the head of House Hylose, is a long standing and extremely dangerous enemy of the faith. He has been behind a number of attempts to destroy the faith on Primus and generally spread suffering and evil in the name of Imperial stability. Obviously, the fact that one of his retainers is now a Senator is of concern (more so than the fact that his daughter used to be Covenant, as I understand - and have no current reason to doubt - that she does not see eye to eye with her father on a great many things). In addition, Senator Crepitus is also - and remains - a member of the 28th Imperial Legion, which used to worship The Enemy and is still filled with people who would do the faith harm. My missive was not intended as a call to arms, however, more as a warning. As I stated previously, my view is that a call to arms of any kind would simply result in an extremely poor outcome for those innocent worshippers of the faith who cannot defend themselves. I hope this is helpful? I'd be happy to clarify further if it would be of assistance. Yours in starlight, Ignatius |

[PRIVATE TO THE FAITHFUL - SHIELDED]
Dear all, You may have noted that Senator Crepitus has now become Chancellor of the Empire. In response to a question from myself, he responded as follows: "for the sake of clarity I retain my position within the 28th Legion and my service to House Hylos. I am proud of my service, most of the spears who serve in the legions are normal men and women of the empire without vitae. I do not possess the skills of Penny or Tirama and so I am thankful for being able to help keep these people alive and unmaimed. Helping them to be able to return to their homes and loved ones is a good thing" I am extremely concerned about this. The Chancellor of the Empire serves an individual who has conspired to murder a number of members of our faith, as well as undertaking a scheme to corrupt a hero of light into a god of deception and malice. A number of the faithful turned on the Wheel or, in at least one instance, died forever, whilst fighting against his machinations. I should say that my experiences of Crepitus *himself* have been positive. I have no particular reason to think that he isn't simply an enormously naive fool - but that doesn't really help in resolving the fact that he is bound to serve the worst kind of scum. Ignatius |

Iggy,
Unlike Basil, Herse and Eldias I did not agree, or was consulted about notifying the empire and allowing Maxinder to seek shelter with his cronies but we are where we are. I'm not involved in the politics of your land but there are threats in most places. If you have a suggestion on what we could or should do I am open to suggestions. There are indeed threats in most places, but they aren't generally in charge of the apparatus of the state.
Having said that, I don't have any brilliant suggestions. I'm not sure that there is much we can do, other than potentially lodging some sort of objection with the Senate/the Empress - I have never been involved in the city affairs of Gothiel, so I do not know if such a thing is possible or advisable. We should certainly keep a keen eye out, however, and be aware at least that forces unfriendly to the faith have gained a significant amount of power in the last year or so. I suppose one option might be for someone of the faith to enter into the hurly burly of Imperial politics, but rather them than me frankly. Ignatius |

I have remained silent for many years, I return to a church that seems to have lost its focus...
If the man who serves Hylos is of light soul then the crucible wants nothing of him. I see that many here are focusing on the puppet and not the puller of strings, you do not burn the whole field because one stalk of corn is bad, you remove the stalk and tend to the rest to prevent future taints. It feels like I will have to pick up my mace and travel the world again - my lady's message has lessened. Grit. |
