These copies are placed here within the repository of the hallowed vaults of the Cathedral within Modred's Rest. Access is only provide to the faithful and only those that have evoked and been bestowed with the ritual blessings of our Lord needed to ensure that the forces of those mentioned do not sense the knowledge begin reawakened and be drawn to those that contain it.

To that end it is imperative that this knowledge is not released to those beyond the faithful that are so blessed.

The original copies of these documents were given into my care and possession by our High Priest and can be reviewed within the Grand Temple fortress that rests upon my Estates.

I warn that these documents contained both hallowed and unhallowed words of divine power that are not linked to our Lord as well as a version of history that is in fact heresy to many true believers.

To protect the knowledge and lessen the danger the unhallowed word has not been written true.

However I have retained the exact syntax, spelling and structure of the documents to preserve their originality over presenting them as I would correct them.

Document 1: Introduction to the Sharmyn Dynasty

The great and powerful house of Sharmyn, damned through eternity, were one of the first dynasty’s of this curious culture to arise, long before the birth of the current magiocracies. They ruled in the area now known as Seval, whilst the mountains were young and fresh, and the woodlands spread further and wider.

Unlike most of their kind have become to be know, they were pure of heart and without the bitterness that has seeped into their psyche over the generations as their once powerful Empire was sundered and dwindled to insignificance.

They were respected, and tasked above all with the defence of Primus from the demon plane that sought to break down the barriers between worlds and take the centre for themselves, wreaking havoc on all of creation. Their task was sacred, and many of those of goodly faith, indeed many of the deities of light would likely be able to trace their origins back to this time and the work of the Sharmyn dynasty, were not much of the knowledge of their people eradicated in a cataclysmic event that even our rituals cannot penetrate and ascertain the full understanding of. However, theories suggest that this event must have been somehow linked to the great war with Quell’Satharr Z’nothh, a creature that from what we can establish must have been what is known in the common tongue as an old god. This was a creature of hate and spite who coveted whole words to turn into bitter, senseless cruelty and torture.

From what we have gleaned, Quell’Satharr Z’Nothh turned his (her, it’s) eye towards Primus and sought entry. The lands of Sharmyn were where the barrier were weakest, undoubtedly why the dynasty built their Empire here.

The initial assaults from what we can glean were minor but lethal. No weapon known to their craft could harm the creatures, demonic for the most part, that came through. It was only due to the minimal size of the invasion forces that casualties were not total, as the Sharmyn Empire were able to at least hold them back with powerful rituals and pacts forged with deities of the light, keeping the rifts to negligible breaches.

As time went on this became less and less effective. Quell’Satharr bore greater attention to bear upon this annoyance, and the pacts began to fall. In earnest, the King at the time, Harnath Sharmyn, called upon the greatest of their pacts, one held with a potent deity Taemiretaiya, a beneficent God of light and good. The drawing on that pact brought it to an end, all favours called in as it were, but in ding so the forges were empowered to create mighty weapons capable of felling these diabolical creatures. In days a dozen or more different runed weapons of Sharmyn were created, their mere presence inspiring the forces of the dynasty, but the wielders were now able to defeat the creatures of Z’Nothh.

And that is where their story ends. We have neither been able to find the physical ruins, nor cultural memory of the dynasty. The required divinations are beyond our power to pierce the fog. As a warning though, those that have tried have had their minds torn asunder, their bodies ravged and eroded or driven into a mania of hate that has seen us having to put them down like a rabid dog. Neither can we put a date or time on these events, only that they are beyond the memory of anyone now living, even through story passed down.

Document 2: The Rage of N'Zothh

Z’Nothh, enraged by the defiance of the Sharmyn dynasty drew all of its power into the hate filled realm that they occupied and struck out at Primus. The skies bled on the Sharmyn empire, and creatures of nightmare and spite filled the lands.

In a last, desperate act to save the plane, Harnath struck a new pact with Taemiretaiya. His people had been filled with bitterness and hate from the dark influence pouring into their souls and turned upon one another. Only he and his most loyal companions still stood sane against the terror.

The pact they forged was a ruse to draw Taemiretaiya to their final, grand ritual chamber. Unsuspecting of such a betrayal, driven by pure necessity, King Sharmyn stuck the God of Light down with the axe forged from his very own power. The rituals prepared prior drew this power and focused it to seal the rifts, the resulting cataclysm wiping the Sharmyn Empire from the face of Primus, but sealing Z’Nothh away in his demon dimension.

The sad truth is this betrayal was that Taemiretaiya would have offered his essesnce willingly, had Harnath asked. But whether Harnath has been driven to irrationality by his exposure to the war or simply could not see past his desperation is unknown, It is just clear that the act of betrayal in that should have been an act of selfless sacrifice meant things were not entirely as they could have been.

Taemiretaiya’s essence was scattered to the winds, and would go on to form part of the aspects and powers of the new gods of light as they came to being.

Some of N’Zothh’s minions remained within Primus, but severed from their master, have lain dormant for millennia, living in the shadows and nightmares.

The Runed Great Axe of King Sharmyn remained where its last blow fell, sealing the way into the realm of the Old One. By the death of Taemiretaiya, the power faded from the other weapons.

The resulting cataclysm of power removed all these events from the collective conscious fabric of the world, as well as removing the physical presence of the Empire of Sharmyn. Hence the events during the cataclysm itself undetectable.

And finally the trick…The paper that was left to be discovered, that made its way into the papers to be found millennia later, was left by one of the Melnibanion’s who fell to the bitter hatred of Z’Nothh. There are a few clues, in that the paper openly speaks the name in full seemingly without consequence. The author is not identified. And, if the events were lost, how did someone in the future discover this?

They hoped that one day some aspiring group of goodly people would come to uncover the mysteries, and in finding the axe, removing it, they would unseal the way back to the master’s realm, and bring hate and spite back to primus.

And so it shall be. The church of St Michael will be inexorably drawn to find this axe, and even if they figure the consequences of claiming it, they will simply chose to do so, reasoning that they shall strike into this plane of horror and win. Because that’s what they do. Or try to…
