As one of several steps to try to encourage monsters to pre-book and enable our referees to offer high quality adventures (which is nigh on impossible without monsters), we are today introducing an enhanced credit reward for people to book to run adventures as a "team".

This enhanced package is only available when booking to referee as a team of three people (one of which is a registered referee) before the Wednesday before the adventure date.

The credits awarded for a referee team are as follows

Caves 2-length adventure
Referee: 10 credits (or cash payment as usual)
Team members: 5 credits each
All three receive normal monster points plus 10 points each for booking as a team

Overland 3-length adventure
Referee: 15 credits (or cash payment as usual)
Team members: 7 credits each
All three receive normal monster points plus 10 points each for booking as a team

Referees still receive ref points as usual and team members will receive a-ref ref points if they are registered as a-refs.

All three members of the team may choose to change the allocation of credits between them if they so choose, but only at the time the credits are awarded.

There is no need for the team to be "registered" in any way, and you may have a different team for subsequent adventures. It is important however to make sure that the debrief sheet clearly marks those that are part of the referee team

The maximum size of a referee team is four (including the referee). Referee teams will only be split on the day if there is absolutely no alternative without players booking off or adventures being cancelled

Regards,
Andy

In a revision to the above policy on referee teams, in order to qualify for the additional rewards the referee also needs to e-mail the written adventure through to the monsters and the booking line by 9am on the Tuesday prior to the adventure.

If a referee does not have all of the e-mail addresses then Laby admin may be able to provide those details for you.

This is in order to encourage the teams to have an opportunity to prepare before the morning of the adventure.

Regards,
Andy

In November 2007 we introduced the idea of Referee Teams, a system of providing additional rewards for groups of club members coming together to arrange crewing for an adventure in advance.

The intention of this scheme was to encourage more people to pre-plan adventures, for a-refs and monsters to have an adventure before the morning of the event so that they can either play a part in the creation of the adventure or at least have had a chance to read it through and understand it before the day.

Having an a-ref and/or monsters know the adventure in advance frees the referee up on the morning of the event to spend his/her time with the players, with the a-ref and monsters setting, and also gives a better chance of the monsters and a-ref being ready to start on time.

Having a monster crew that knows the adventure ahead of time also generally give a much greater chance of a really enjoyable adventure for the players.

Unfortunately, over the nearly two years that this scheme has been in place it has largely not been able to achieve what it set out to do. As such the referee team scheme is no longer in effect.

Any ref-teams which have already been booked will stay in place and receive the bonus rewards as usual, but it will no longer be possible to book to use the ref team system from today onwards.

Despite this scheme not achieving its aim, we will continue to look at alternative methods to encourage ever improving adventures.

Thanks and regards,
Phil and Andy
