Hello,

Recently I travelled with a group from the Frontline (including Kaldon!) and one of the group was calling on or having called into him undead spirits. I have also travelled with other mercenaries who are undead themselves or can call upon undead to aid them.

I am however not sure how to treat these people and what I should do with regard to others taking action against them?

Basically do we allow others to summon undead for the greater good?

I have put this here for all to see but i understand if people wish to talk more privatly!
However I don't want any ranting about how "evil is evil" or "rights for undead." Neither are welcome!

It has been a long time since I heard of it, but there are certainly groups of undead living quite peacefully in secluded areas of the Empire where are no threat whatsoever to the people of Primus. Whilst some faiths might see all undead as things that need to be destroyed as soon as possible, I always prefer to take a view as to the reason for their actions.

Do you know the nature of the undead that were called into this person? I know that some people of the Church of Dead Heroes call the spirits of departed heroes to help them, which others might call undead.

I dont know the nature but the question is dose it matter? And how do you define the difference?

And would you go out of your way to defend them?

I am sorry for my delay in responding Tirack, but I have spent some time pondering and meditating over your question and still find I have those of my own. All I can give you is an honest response.

I too have travelled with some who have been as you describe, however, I do not think there is a right answer to the question you pose. None of us can claim to be our Lady, nor have Her wisdom in such matters. We can only be guided by Her and the feelings She places with each one of us. This is a very personal thing. We already know not everyone views the world and those in it the way we do. If they did we would not be able to move for priests of our Lady.

We are Her voices here on Primus. Here to do the bidding and will of our Lady of Mercy and Compassion. As distasteful as it may be to me I would not presume to prevent another priest from calling on the powers they have been granted, just as you would not wish another to do to you. It is not our place to. However, neither do we have to idly stand by and watch.

You have a voice Tirack. Seek with in your heart and you may find Her words to give voice to. If Her light fails to penetrate hearts too hard or closed to hear them then you may need to decide whether or not to remain. However, it is possible to make things harder or more difficult for those that summon undead spirits, or use their power to do ill. Remember, it is as likely that these spirits would not wish to be summoned as we wish they were not. We still do not know whether or not these creatures feel pain on being forced to defile the bodies of the dead.. or Shaehan forfend, the living. They should be treated with the same mercy and compassion as we would show the living. Free them with Her love when ever possible as these ‘foul undead’ are no more than slaves to bend at the will of their master or mistress. Those that have sought out this parody of life should be pitied. However, the choice, in most cases, was theirs to make. Our Lady, as with most of the pantheon of Light have already withdrawn their aid from them. Hence you are unlikely to be able to heal or aid them in any way. This was their descision to make, their choice. Look to those you can help. Open their eyes to this and show them there is always another way, they just need to be strong enough to make it.

Though, you are wrong with your last comment. Undead do have rights. They have the right to a second chance. They have the chance to rest in peace. They have the right to expect mercy from us.

Remember, mercy and above all compassion in all things.

Latona

Right, speaking as my own self and not as a loyal subject...

I think Undead are wrong. Well, summoning them is wrong, as it makes the real person that's left all tainted.
Now, you might think, if they can't be brought back what's the fuss? But still, it's a sign that it's disrespectful and wrong.

On the other hand, some people are a bit scared to die. I'm reticent meself, even knowing that Shaehan is looking out for me. It hurts and it's bad. So they'll take the shortcut, the easy way out and let dark spirits hold them to this mortal world.
Is that wrong? I dunno.

More to the point, once the damage has been done, is it right to cause more suffering?
The simple undead, their malign by their own intend, bourne to destroy.

Folk brought back to life by a mockery of our restoration powers? Wrong but is it more wrong to lead their dark souls to eternal darkness without the opportunity to see our ladies light?

I'm not sure.

And the port is kicking in something fierce.

Good debate though, I'm intrigued to learn more from my fellows..

Ladies watch over thee..

I would not cause harm to any but release that I must make my own decisions as to how far I should go to protect these unfortunate few.

My thanks for your advice and I hope it has made a few others consider how they would act. As to better prepare ourselves to help our fellow mercenaries in future!
