Hi i was thinking of a MC for my pathfinder who has bought the tinker tendancie. I was wondering if making a class that is all to do with cache and generally being a cache expert. I have the ideas i want and i will post them here on a later date but i just needed to know would this fit in with the system? Or is it to modern?

Peopel have had many things and classes involved aroudn trapping and caches in the past, keep in mind that it is rare you get to set traps as a player as you tend to be the ones goign towards the npcs rather than the other way around.

However extended length events, residential events like myths and defender sections are where you come into your own.

Steer clear on any 20th/21st century terms, but there is some mileage in caches

I have loads of stuff passed, but its all pre-at the sharp end when some of it became public.

Personally, I wouldn't bother. They are lots of points, and you get little for it

similar stuff has been done before - not to any massive scale by my recollection, and also your gonna have to tread careful if you wanna be using snap traps...... they are tools of terrorism say health and safety ohmy.gif !

Possibly something a little wider, includes caches - but also miner/demolition/engineer style abilities

I had a few things passed for my miner - eg. create physical walls of stone - by causing cave ins
Examine Construction innates could be converted into damage grades vs constructs, and I know a couple of people have had
'Dig through Walls' abilities
Would give you a few more things than just caches/bombs and their inherent limitations

Giles.

A couple of tales regarding traps and caches.

I was on myths with Ian Hunter's cache specialised scout a while back (this was at around 3K points). The explosions always failed to significantly dent the monsters. Each day Ian would pick some target that looked dangerous enough to warrant it (as opposed to just being beaten up by the party warriors) and lob a high percentage of his days pile of caches at it. Every time the monster (or monsters) would real about dramatically for a bit and roleplay being badly hurt... then lumber in to melee the party warriors. Eventually, increasingly frustrated, we came upon a large number of sleeping demonic things. He tiptoed in and placed I believe over 10 greater caches in the middle of them then crept out. His entire daily allowance. 400pts worth of bang. They went off....the monsters roleplayed being sent flying and badly hurt... then lumbered into melee with the party. I think he just gave up at that point.

Another time, I remember Duncan trapping the doors on the myths house when we had a ref that liked night attacks and similar. He was at least 8000pts at the time if not more, but only had level 1 skill or something like it in the traps. However, when sitting on sentry duty we knew that 1 bang meant kitchen door and 2 bangs meant back door. Immensly useful. (the sentry is sitting by the third door, which is untrapped to allow refs and shifting monsters in or out but at least is guarded)

The moral of the story seems to be don't bother trying to kill monsters with explosion damage, its never enough. Other effects (blinding caches, stunning or entangling FX, or simply alarms to cover your rear) do have some potential.

Its even worse than that

800pts of bang... they're 80pts each

I know they are not much used.

However I think's fairly telling that in all my time playing I don't think I have ever actually seen a monster fall over to cache damage.

Yeah but they have supernatural hits so mock the physical explosions.

Only time seen a party trap used was on a 3-day. Four years ago i think..... did about 19 hits to the monster but the amount of cheer from the party was hilarous...
