OK I have been asked by 8 different people about rages recently, so...
Any type of rage - You enter a rage and you are in combat. You cannot leave unless you have an ability that lets you. They do not apply to magic unless you are an elf/have mystical rages. Rages do increase your level of resistance based on the type of rage (so 50% doubles it, 25% adds about a third to your level of resistance) 25% rage - You will attack your opponents, someone hitting you makes them an opponent. You can use offensive powers (So cast a lightning bolt, not a total heal or blink to leave the fight). 50% rage - You will attack anyone hostile. You can't cast without an ability to do so, or use anything that requires concentration (For example opponent study). Before people ask this is not a rules change, its just it appears some people didn't know this. Lee -------------------- Please send points apps to: pointsapp@labyrinthe.co.uk

Think some people were confused as it’s hard to find any rule saying you have to stay in combat or can’t leave combat in the current books , I just always assumed you can’t leave combat whilst raging as I was told this on my first ever dungeon

Thanks Lee. You'd think it was obvious, but it's worth mentioning you should probably roleplay being angry too!
Odd thing I've never really thought about though - so if your opponent has a +0 magic sword (i.e. physical and magical) it cuts through your rage? Do you do the thing about calculating damage from the magic side without the rage, and from the physical side with the rage, and take the worst? How much damage does a warrior in AC 12 with a 33% rage and 1/2 effect fire take from a firebladed quad? 6pts or 7pts? Stuart Physical 18pt triple -AC 12 less 33% rage = 4pts +3pts fire (1/2 effect) = 7 pts? OR Physical triple - AC 12 less 33% rage = 4pts Magic flaming quad - AC12, 1/2 effect = 6pts |

With physical damage with a magic component you apply your rages but can’t apply your 1/2 effects to my knowledge - years of playing this anyway. Although all my characters with rages just buy mystical rages so you can apply them to touch attacks etc.
You can apply your 1/2 effect fire to the 6pts from a fire blade though assuming you aren’t applying a half effect weapon blows or something similar... Magic weapons aren’t actually relevant to normal people with physical hits I don’t believe... it’s just relevant if you’re magic only etc. Etc. Ryan |

I thought it was only 50% and upwards that locked you into combat?

Hey Lee. Thanks for the clarification.
Do spells effects which mimic the effects of a rage thus incur the same clarification? |

If the spell gives you a rage yes, if it gives a % then no.

And a cold rage? Pretty clear in the original post. A cold rage is a rage, use of any type rage locks you in combat. BBB -------------------- Grey's Law: Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice...

So as an example:
I 25% rage, Duncan kills the thing I'm fighting from behind. I don't hit him. I am in a 50% rage, Duncan kills thing I'm fighting and still has weapons out, and is last person i hit him. 50% rage - You will attack anyone hostile. You can't cast without an ability to do so, or use anything that requires concentration (For example opponent study). Lee Could you use Opponent Study - if you had no concentration time - eg. from Always Prepared ? I'd assume not - as you still have to concentrate even without prep time but thought it's worth an ask, as who knew about the levels of resistance increase? Giles. |

I used the resistance thing a lot to comedy effect with Prot Goods as Vayle… Parties would prot me in to try and avoid problems during duels and the like... 0 seconds prep (e.g. mighty strikes and poised and ready) is fine.

Hi Lee,
I get what you said below, but there is one particular type you have not specifically mentioned, so just to get this clarified for everyone 3rd level war dancer 25% calm fury 1/3 levels, as cold rage however war-dancer need not beserk and may instead act as he will, lasts 5 minutes or until war dancer leaves combat. Probably wrong but thought this was effectively the old Calm rage, which was you dont have to attack your allies, and could leave combat when you chose ? Its the 'may act as he will' bit that says to me exactly that - do what you like Cheers Sarah OK I have been asked by 8 different people about rages recently, so... Any type of rage - You enter a rage and you are in combat. You cannot leave unless you have an ability that lets you. They do not apply to magic unless you are an elf/have mystical rages.
