Brothers and Sisters,

As many of you will know, we have over recent months been searching out old shrines to Humakt which have become abandoned over the years due to the passing of Humakt himself and during the waning years of our own Church.

In previous endeavors two such shrines were successfully cleansed of the evil that had arisen in the ruins of these shrines and they were successfully reconsecrated in Mortai's name.

A third, within the lands which once was Ikkybiggle, was partially cleared of the five powerful undead spirits which had taken up residence there. A number of us, along with some well regarded friends of the Church, returned to the Ikkybiggle shrine just yesterday. Our intention was to finally lay to rest the creatures known as Starved of Life, Dichotomy of Light and Dark and the Thrice Born.

I am delighted to be able to report that all three have now been destroyed. This was not achieved without casualty as myself, Lithmore and Reason were felled by evil spirits which were released as the undead known as Starved of Life was destroyed at Lithmore's hand. We can provide more detail of the exact occurrences at the shrine to those interested, but suffice to say that there were some surprisingly powerful creatures but through belief and teamwork we prevailed.

The shrine itself was re-consecrated but crumbled upon completion, Mortai in His wisdom choosing to move his gaze to an alternative location - we believe somewhere in rural Sellaville. At Lithmores decree Teldor was appointed Guardian of the new shrine, and I would like to add my congratulations to him as a worthy guardian and to offer my help to him, if needed, in locating its new location.

As the last shrine was consecrated Lithmore, Teldor and I (and I presume Francis as well) became aware of a fourth Hallowed place of Humakt, a place akin to the Haven provided by the Lady Shaehan for her followers. We also became aware that this hallowed place had also become corrupted over the years. We resolved to travel there as it was felt that it was our Lord's will that this place also be reconsecrated in His name.

Upon our arrival the darkness which had infected the place was forced back and the area once again bathed in Light. A gateway to the Plane of Undeath was discovered and successfully closed. The Heart of the hallowed halls was re-empowered by Francis and Lithmore and once again beats strong.

The High Alter of Humakt was discovered, weakened and decayed in its solitude. After communing with what remained of Humakt's presence there, ascertaining Its will and the permission of those of Humakt that travelled with us, the remaining spirit of Humakt was released and laid to rest.

As Mortai's gaze began to fall upon the Hallowed halls those friends that travelled with us were returned to Primus, and those of Mortai's Church that remained to complete the ritual to refocus Mortai's gaze and will upon the halls.

The exact nature of the halls remains unclear, and I am sure that there is much that can be learned about them, and perhaps the nature of the place will become more certain over time. For the moment, however, it is a place which allows us to be closer to Him, and for that I rejoice. Lithmore, Teldor, Francis and myself can open the way there, but we hope that all may be able to do so in short time.

We do know that these Hallowed Halls also require a Guardian - but this guardian is not of Primus. We believe that he/she exists, and it lies with the Church to find them and return them to the Hallowed Halls. Perhaps once the guardian is reinstated we will be able to unlock the secrets of the Halls.

In his passing, Humakt asked that he and those that fought and died in his name not be forgotten. I would not seek to speak for Lithmore, but I am certain that we will look to ensure that his wishes are met. We should discuss an appropriate way for this to be.

I am certain that I have missed details here and would ask those that travelled with us to fill in where I have failed to provide the right information.

Yours in service
Harrison Hyde

Just as an additional note, there was an additional gateway located within the Hallowed Halls, which I believe will be better discussed in person when we travel again in a few days time.

Because Harrison and I wrote to the faithful at the same time, here is what Teldor said to my missive so that we have all the information together:

"Thanks to the dedication and perseverance of the faithful we were successful in driving the taint from the temple in Ickybiggle. The temple fell to ruin and a replacement was created by our lord in the city of Sellaville. I have been tasked as the temple's guardian.

As we killed the undead known as Starved of Life, Harrison, Lithmore and Reason (of the church of Shaehan) all lost their lives to the creature's death throws. All should be applauded for their sacrifice. All three were returned due to Francis Cecil-Burleigh's quick action in restoring Harrison to life via the use of a scroll and Harrison proceeded to restore Lithmore and Reason.

Francis will be aware that as the third temple was purified all three of the guardians together with Lothmore became aware of a central location connected to the three purified temples. This previously formed part of Humakt's heaven and now part of Mortai's. The three guardian's together or the high priest could open the way but we could sense that the place was corrupted. This place should have formed an ante-chamber to Mortai's heaven in a similar manner to Shaehan's Haven. As with Haven only members of the faithful should be able to enter this place.

Lithmore prayed and opened a portal. As we entered we immediately encountered undead which were being empowered by evil candles. Our lights would not illuminate the area. We fought tides of undead as candles were found which could counter the effects of these foul candles. We then were able to light other candles and we proceeded to illuminate the central chamber. This action warded against the creatures being summoned.

We then found a font similar to the fonts found in the other corrupt Humakti temples. I pressed further into the temple and discovered objected constantly summoning creatures of undeath. I destroyed these objects and located a vortex leading directly to the plane of undeath which was taking lost souls and corrupting them. Lithmore, Francis and the others purified the font whilst myself and Harrison dealt with the vortex. Harrison managed to drive the vortex back with enough goodly power so as to expose the undead creating it. Both myself and Harrison were them able to dismiss/destroy the undead fuelling the vortex and as such it crumbled.

Before entering the heart of Mortai's temple we found a wall created by one of the faithful who had given herself to undeath to protect the inner sanctum. Arakail dismissed her and the glass wall she protected shattered.

We entered the inner chamber of the temple and there located the corrupted High Alter of Humakt, and undead. It asked us to lay it to rest and Lithmore proceeded to dismiss it after making the promise that we would not forget Humakt or his people's sacrifice. Harrison then restored the dead alter to life calling on Mortai to return to the alter rather than Humakt whilst the rest of the faithful incanted the prayer in unison.

The Alter was the restored and the place became part of Mortai's Heaven as it should be. Bother Harmony and Arakail left before we restored the place so as to allow us the sanctity we required for the ritual. After it was completed Reason was ejected presumably as he follows our Lord's sister rather than out Lord himself. The alter then charged us to find it's heart guardian....something we now need to discuss at greater length. We were then all able to return by willing it so to the temple at Sellaville.

We all returned well. A great victory was won in our Lord's name. many souls have been saved.

In his name...

Teldor"

My heart sings at the opening of this new doorway to our Lord, though this is tempered by the losses - Even though I know none of those that fell, bled or cried during this task would change what happened. If we may, we too with in our Ladys faith wil lhelp ensure that the names of the lost and fallen of Humakt are not forgotten.

Since my return I have come to realise that the faiths of our Lord and Lady are at once the same, yet wildly different. Yet this momentous task bravely won can only cement and bind us together as brothers and sisters, a mortal mirror image of our Divine and beloved patrons.

I would offer my congratulations to the appointed guardians and custodians. Should you ever need help.. even of the base earthbound kind, you will know where to find me.

May He guide you and strengthen you in all things, and may Her love and compassion always have a place in your hearts.

your sister

Thank you both for such detailed reports. I think it is incredibly important that we keep a record of the Church's deeds; that way as more are welcomed into the fold, we can direct them to such stories to learn from them.

Beyond congratulations on your success, it seems that there are several main points to be considered as we move on with developing the Halls and other related matters.

- Firstly, the identity and location of its' guardian.

- Secondly, a way of memorialising Humakt and the sacrifice of His followers.

- Thirdly, making sure Teldor's shrine in Sellaville is well and seeing about what it needs, if anything.

- Fourthly, whatever this gateway is that Harrison wants to talk about - but we'll save that one for when we gather in a few days.

Since the first can be achieved only with some effort and divination, the third is rather self-explanatory and the fourth is delayed due to the need to discuss it in person - let us take this opportunity to discuss what we can do to appropriately remember Humakt and His people.

I would very much like to hear what all of you think would be suitable - especially those who are old enough to remember Humakt a bit more clearly than the rest of us. Not for the first time I find myself missing Elryyd, as I'm sure he would have had great insights that we could have used here. Although we can of course talk about it in person when we gather, I have this feeling that things here at the Cradle and in the Highlands generally are likely to be a little too involving to sit down and have important theological discussions.

'Til then, may the warmth of the Sun light your path.

I am happy to add any documents/stories that were discovered/arose when the altar imparted it's knowledge to Lithmore as it passed (assuming it did so as stated it would) to the libraries on Assail. There are many records there of our order and the Humakti who founded it. Though it is far from complete, I would hope that his memories live on in our words, records and deeds. He will not be forgotten.

That would be wonderful, Harmony. Maybe part of the remembering could be to ensure that the gaps within those records are filled in where possible and that they are read by people.

If I may make a suggestion to you all..

Could we not look to create a new Holy day for the church? In celebration of the re-discovery of these Halls and for us all to remember those now gone. A day for both those that followed and gave of themselves to both Lord Mortai and Humakt.

A day of Remembrance. This way they will never be forgotten.

That sounds like a fantastic idea, not that it's my place to sanction such at all, but I approve whole heartedly.

Latona, that is a fantastic idea.

I will speak with Lithmore but I think it would be an excellent memorial - and the 9th, being the day that the Altar was cleansed and reconsecrated, seems like an appropriate date to me.

Firstly my congratulations to Teldor as guardian to the new shrine, who’s presence I can already feel in Sellaville and I will travel with you to it soon.
Although it needs a name?

Secondly my congratulations to the three wardens of Mortai’s High Temple
Francis Birch, Guardian of Death’s Rest.
Harrison Hyde, Guardian of The Sanctuary.
Teldor, Guardian of our new shrine in Sellaville.

I have spent the last week there and can feel the ways in with Mortai could see us embracing it. We will speak more of this at our meeting in the Highlands if time permits.

QUOTE(Martinj @ Jan 10 2011, 02:46 PM) *
All I know is that Harrison placed a message in my mind telling me they were off to Mortai's Haven - and that if they didn't come back they were sorry and would I make sure I looked after the church.

Did you all make it back?

Francis Birch

As you can see by the messages from others we did survive although there were costs, thank you Francis, it was a shame you couldn’t be there. It was humbling to be so close to our lord. I will speak to Upton and see what he knows of the heart guardian.

Eliane ever time I think of Elryyd I remember us freeing the tortured undead Edwin summoned, specifically when we had to wash our hands and feet in pure water and dismiss the two undead by overwhelming them. Which in turn reminds me of Teldor singing to the undead. Oh how proud I am of what we have achieved as a church.

A day of Remembrance is a marvellous idea. I will speak with the scribes and have them formalise it. Also possible a celebration, possible in Sellaville?

I'm sure I can help arrange something specific in Sellaville, Lithmore. It's quite fitting, especially as I think a Day of Remembrance will also appeal to those in Sellaville considering their past.

And may I too add my congratulations to the newly appointed Wardens. If I can be of any help when you go to locate the Heart Guardian let me know. Even if it is to pray for you all.

Latona,

I think that establishing a new holy day to commemorate this auspicious event is an excellent idea.

Provided that other members of the faith are happy with my choice I have chosen to name the new shrine in Selaville: "Mercy's Shield". You must all forgive me as I was contemplating naming the shrine "Vanity's Folly" but thought better of it in the end.

I will look forward to seeing many of you in the Cradle tomorrow.
