As was the nature of the Invisible Quarter the view from Sire Halfblack’s office changed on a near daily basis, mainly due to the fact that the room that served as his office changed on a near daily basis. It was, in part, the impossibility to pin down which particular properties were owned by Sire Halfblack within the city from day to day that earned the quarter its moniker and made it damn near impossible to interfere in his invisible investments.

The loyal Sneertwice brought his Master the pouch that had been secreted in the special store room. He was relieved that Sire Halfblack would be doing the counting himself. The Shark Scribes had been a little uneasy at the idea of counting and verifying the payment. It was not that they were unused to counting far, far greater sums, it was just that the reality fixing rites they used as part of The Count were just not effective where Mercenary monies were concerned and they had no desire to earn the ire of a Mercenary or Sire Halblack in the event of any error especially an error not on their part.

Anath understood their, concerns and so had taken it upon himself to personally perform the count.

“Excellent Sneertwice.”

He cracked his fingers and began to tally the notes on the back of one of Carter’s used scrolls of Pass Unknown, waste not want not, starting with the 1,000G notes and working his way up to the higher denominations…

Part way through the 1,000’s count he found that a very, very tatty 1,000G note that had been torn in half somewhat and cheekily included in one of the bundles. He sighed and set it aside.

Once the count was finished he had found first an extra note in the bundle of 1,000’s and an extra note in one of the bundles of 3,000’s. It looked like Master Rend and his backer were overpaying by 4,000G, or 3,000G if you considered the torn note. Anath smiled.

The smile was dislodged though as unfortunately the final sheaf of 5,000’s was short a single note. So, discarding the matter of the torn 1,000G note, which he was willing to overlook and replace with a less used note, the final tally was short the grand sum of 1,000G.

Not bad he had to suppose given the total value of the sale was 800k. He would contact Master Rend and advise them of the minor shortfall.
