The 101st were on the move. Even though they had had been warned months before, they would in reality have needed little more than a day’s notice. The Lord Executioner always insisted on readiness, even from the garrison on the Empress-forsaken Needle Isles.

Now they were aboard the Craftenguilder of Bildteve’s personal Cog, requisitioned somehow by someone with undoubtedly a great deal of influence. The captain and crew had sailed as close to the appointed place as they dared, the very edges of that patch of the Tigrean known as the Sinking Seas. They had been assured by the Vampire that the rites would allow the ship to sail those infamously treacherous waters long enough to land, achieve their task and leave again once the wards that protected and hid the isle that lay ahead, unseen but to all the sharpest of eyes.

Earlier that day another ship, a somewhat more mystic one, a Ghost Ship captained by Dreadbeard and loaded with a crack squad of Mercenaries had sailed the Dead Seas, that reality that skirted the edges of the Realm of Glass and the Mittlenacht without truly being in either. Their course, and the nature of the Ghost Ship, allowed them to bypass all but the last of the wards that shrouded the Sinking Isle, although not without attack by Drowned Pirates, Ghosts and a Kraken along the way.

And so it was that on the 20th Januar the Church of Iron and Empire found themselves on one of the few remaining Ancient Folk and Orc Slaver outposts that had not been already destroyed by the Lord Executioner’s campaign in years gone by. This one was special, it was well warded and hidden but they had been informed by their current employer that the wards were barely stable.

In truth they had set out seeking just one man, Stone, a Nightsoil who had been kidnapped from the household of their employer but what had been simply a rescue mission had become something else: Bring down these slavers who raided the north of the Empire's western coast.

Their brief was simplicity itself: breach the isle, make their way to the heart of the outpost and disable the wards. They must have ultimately been successful because later that day...

The Bell without a clapper let out a single sonorous toll that was felt by all aboard the ship; that was the signal, the Church had done its job. A fog suddenly appeared out of nowhere and almost as swiftly was burned away by the sun to reveal a tropical Isle ahead, complete with a mildly smoking volcano at its centre.

The Reeve mused to himself: That had been a day’s work for some Mercenaries. Now the real man’s work began. He estimated a week’s work for his men. It had been years since they had had the chance for some real action, this was going to be glorious. The Reeve gave the order and the Conquerors Cadre prepared to invade the now helpless Sinking Isle.

Back in Bildteve the Vampire thanked the Church for their help. He snuck a glance at the scrolls they had recovered: interesting...
