Ok I am sure there will come a time when I shall bombard the boards or people with questions but for now let me keep it simple. I used to spend my days in Labyrinthe back in the Jan Mc Mannus days, (Yes I am that old). So I have never lost my love of Rolepalying and was talking recently
to a friend that used to come to the caves with me. I was actually trying to convince him to come try it all out again this many years later I think I have failed though as his job tires him out too much. So my Question is this: What now? Tried phoning up but no luck might just be a busy day? I simply don't know where to start I have vaguely gone over some of the changes looked at event boards etc. But I need some advice on where to go from here? Should I do some monstering to get back into the swing of things (So to speak). Is that still done over the phone front desk? Is there still a front desk? Is everything done online now? I basicly need advice on how to get the ball rolling again for a 42 year old man that has not played since he was 15-20 years old and is only now returning. Thanks for all your help in advance Regards Gav. |

Hi Gav, I'm sure you will get alot of responses, I restarted last year with a similar story. Most of the bookings and queries are done via email and online. You can book on to monster or play an event from the events page. I found it easy to get back into by booking on a Pre 8th dungeon, there is normally at least 1 a month. But you should be fine on a 250pt or even a 500. Characters start at 4th level now, and at the refs discretion, if you were starting a new character on a 250 or 500pt dungeon, you may be able to battleboard as 8th level. Assuming you make it out alive and have done OK you would be awarded the 8th level at the end of the day. The basic rules are available in the downloads section of the site, but there are also paper rulebooks for each of the main class brackets (Warrior, Scouts, Wizards, Priests, and Neuronic users) available for £5 from the desk. If you want to take the plunge (and of course you should!) I would look for a low level dungeon and book on to play, you then only need to worry about remembering what your character can do, rather than a few different monster parts. Do a post on the forums to let people know, there is usually a thread started for each event where people let each other know what they plan on playing. Carl -------------------- Carl

Afternoon!
The management are currently in Mexico, so the phone might be a bit sluggish; they'll be the first to suggest email bookings@labyrinthe.co.uk There is a good core of very frequent players, rule mongers, craftsmen and generally the usual lot you'd expect. You've still got players with 30 plus years of play coming down, so it wont take long to get back in the groove. Lee Dale is the System manager. If you still have your cards, you might want to run stuff via him so your characters are viable in today's game. the membership page on the other site has the events list- you can book to play/ monster via that portal... monstering earns you a special sort of points these days too. Not sure if they were about when you last played. Turn up. Monster. get your old skills back up to scratch; if you have full blows, can portray different personas, and have your childhood imagination still there, it's all good Og -------------------- Mark V, Aka OG.

It may be too short notice but there is a pre 8th dungeon this Sunday. Your first dungeon would be half price (£20) and the Armoury can help out with a costume and weapons if you need these as well.
The old concept of lows, mids and highs no longer applies - it's more about your points thresholds - also a dungeon now lasts from 10am until 5pm (ish) so no more single, double and triple lengths either. The system is a lot more detailed now and things you wouldn't have thought possible are now within the system which is great and allows you to play a more dynamic character. The layout of the caves has also changed a little but you will recognise it as before with the familiar feel and yes, the ghoul tunnel still exists ! Welcome back buddy -------------------- James Pink

Welcome back buddy You know you are getting old when email appals you........ It's not that I'm a creature of order I like things to be outlined in my head so already what you have all told me is a great help. I'm one of "those" though once one question is answered it opens up a thousand more hence why I hate not being able to get a direct answer (yes like the old days). So no lows, mids, high and no getting up at 4:30am to get ready for the day it seems as well really odd but showhow that makes me sad lol. Ok straight to the point and keep it simple............ So lets say I decide you know what screw it I will go Sunday will they be ok with me paying half price on the day? Do I have to notify anyone of any information apart from booking under live event? You are correct at this point in time I have no costume and no weapons. Is there still a main handbook you can buy apart from just download or has that been done away with? It was actually only around 4 years ago I got rid of all my characters thinking at this point in life I probably won't be returning so lost everything. Had so many nice weapons and chainmail etc. but hey ho. Am I allowed to ask on these boards......How's buisness things going ok for the caves don't want to be one of those coming back to find it's shut down in 6 months if I get back into it. (I know selfish but it was in my head). Bit gutted about not having my mate come too if you want to the truth is was always a group of us going to the caves so not sure how I feel about being my sad case self going on my own. Layout of the caves probably won't matter I was always one of those that never had a clue where I was even after going a thousand times. I remember getting seperated from the party and got so lost with no glo light for a good 20 mins wondering the caves I also had obviously gotten so far I could no longer hear anyone adventuring that was a scary moment. Oh P.S just noticed it says you are from High Wycombe Orlock. Hatfield, Hertfordshire here. |

Hello
I came back several years ago after being away around 20 years Main handbook is currently the download but the rest (Warrior, races, evolution etc) link in to that Duncan found evidence of two of my old characters from all that time ago and I got new cards albeit with a small loss of Vitae and points (AFAIR!) Longevity? Well thousands of pounds and a huge amount of superman hours have been and are being put into all areas of the club/business, so I don’t think we have an issue there. Whichever way you go (monster first or play), have a great time -------------------- Andy

As in can I pay on the day? Is it card or cash? Will I get that half price first adventure discount for that day? Wait is Duncan still around? That wouldn't be the Duncan I knew would it? To be honest I had a wallet full of characters I think it would be very hard to track any even a Grey Warlock with a post 8th Item I never collected from a theme day. (was a bloody nice one too but hey ho) Anyone reading these boards going Sunday for the low Level? God even flicking through the handbook so much I have forgotten couldn't read a glyph to save my life now either. |

But yeah, you can pay on the day, and half price for your first event is standard.
The card machine is dead now i think, so cash is easier. -------------------- Carl

Who ever is on the desk can sort out the half price day for you. The desk is now where the toilets used to be and vice versa. If the card machine isn't working you can normally pay by card on the tour side, just speak to the desk and they'll sort it out for you.
Chris is reffing for you Sunday, he's just put a thread up asking what people are playing so you'll be able to find out who else is on the same dungeon. It may well be the same Duncan. Lots of us came down years ago then took a break and have come back. It's still going strong. You'll get to see the new buildings that have been built in the areas. Enjoy Edd |

Oh I need to change that, I now live in Pembrokeshire and I am contending for the furthest flung caver
I started again after a long break - you are going to love it ! I will be down on Sunday and look forward to seeing you. Not too sure if it was about back then but there is a cafe at the top of the caves now connected to the tours so you can always grab something in the morning and at lunch. Oh and about the tours, they no longer come along carrying lanterns midgame... As for the game ? It has a hard core of steadfast players so it's not going anywhere soon -------------------- James Pink
