Labyrinthe Forum _ Church of Dead Heroes _ update

Posted by: sonof Jan 13 2015, 06:28 PM

Can anyone provide me with a specific update on what happened when the church last gathered.

I specifically need to know about things that would of:

Changed the nature of the Golems on bird world.

Caused a cult of blood birds to gain power.

Anything else that might matter in the big picture.

I ask as we need to plan our action.

Yes, not the Church but a group of "standard" mercenaries that I travelled with. Firstly we broke a warding to gain access to some information. This was an earth warding and a consequence was that all the golems gained "normal" speed (as did Andric)

Later we defeated the "head priest" of the Styx but on the way killed a large number of his minions that in their death, cried out to the Styx, passing on their power and life force

Finally, the black eggs. We managed to secure 2 of the 7 and a number are safe but a number have also been retrived by the Styx forces and sacraficed to it

I would recommend focusing on these Black Eggs as a priority if you are able. Stopping more falling into the wrong hands is key to success

Milly and everyone

I think Thallion did a long missive about this when we got back. I glanced at it again last night and it looked pretty spot on. It was my first trip to meet the Shirel and I didn't know any of the history, but I tried to keep my ears open. Andric might remember more, I think he took notes.

The one thing I'd like to do at some point is to send some blue mages to re-empower a ritual line that we had to take down to get to the creature bound in the caverns, the one that created the golems. Removing it has made the golems faster, and that's not good for people who want to run away from them not be killed. We didn't have anyone who could do it at the time, and I'm not a mage so can't recall what was involved. Some sort of blue magic, from what I remember.

It is possible the cult of blood birds have been empowered by the death of their members who gave up their lives to their god - sort of, in the sense that they were surrounded by mercenaries hitting them with swords, so it wasn't much of a sacrifice, more a sort of last abusive gesture at us. But I can understand that. They also have been gathering the black eggs that Thallion talks about, and sacrificing people to them to gain power. I'd like to see if there's some way we can free those souls, there wasn't any way I could think of doing it without breaking the egg which would come closer to waking up the Stryx thing that we really didn't want to wake up.

Not sure that helps much, but there it is.

Right so after talking to some magic blood stuff our first course of action should be Reesha's nest. This will involve us getting our faces smashed in by birds casting total heal and and the like. Clearly we need to make sure we don't get found out doing this, so we need a bit more of a plan than kicking the doors in.

Then we have a choice. Deal with the Cult of Stryx and their blood sacrificing crazy evil god waking ways, or take Cylors End.

I'm slightly more in favour of stryx as we can get an army to help with cylors end once reesha's nest is dealt with.

The above is based on my plan of saving the world, protecting the people, and smashing their dick of a god in the face at some point.

Unfortunately the Heroes think our best plan is a frontal assault.
Some of the forces are paladins, with the associated pain, others can't be hurt from behind, oh and a load of the 4 faced angel guard birds sad.gif, dusting ftw?

Correct... dusting is the annihilation spell... but usually bound with gold magics.

im pretty sure I fought the four faced bird men last time I was there, and the svelts spell worked a treat... except when it tried to rip my arms and legs off.

Garrik.

My defenses will hopefully help me from being turned to dust...

I look forward to travelling with you.

No us dusting them I meant as they are servants of the cuckoo god and quite tough.
And I did mean a gold mana anialation.

Sorry for me entering the chambers but it seems I have been asked to come along.

I have done a small amount of scrying about what's the best sort of magic that maybe needed and I got the below:

1) I ask what best sort of scrolls to bring along: Dispels

2) best sort of magic to use as a whole: Green, White,Brown and Black but all is good

3) last magical thing needed: Ranged Damaging Black Magic

As we are sort of intruding / welcome in preparation for tomorrow....

Scrolls of dispel - I have some, I can also cast dispelling magic.

Colours of magic yes, I can use them

Black magic from afar I can cover abit

The desication spell is going to be needed for some sort of returners - I have this covered.

I can dust people, probably with gold magic if it's really needed, but black normally works ok.

The only thing I could see being of real value that I don't appear to have covered is the lack of faith miracle?

Also glad we are going for the front door approach, I was sensing an extended lunch break.

So, because someone has to say it, is there not some way we can talk to the birds. If they're actually the good guys and its just the bloke in charge has gone crazy, or something. I like kicking in the door and breaking into the heavily defended and fortified position of the enemy as much as the next spear (true, sort of), and if that's what we're doing I'll do it, but, you know, before we just start killing healing priests and that.

Think I'm liking the days when i just get kicked awake and sent places better, this planning lark involves too much advance thinking.

If they are good guys, I am not against that, infact would favour it. Not everyone who casts total heal is a good guy tho. I am happy to use my negotiation skills.

Basically the current saint/ god they worship is a not part of their pantheon and be horrific to people there who die. We convinced the high priest of these facts with a greater comm scroll and a cheeky lack of faith so he got the truth.
He is working with us.
The people at Reeshas nest are as far as we're aware zeolot worshippers of the fake god.
If we can reason with them crack on but convincing them that torturing the souls of the people of their land is not ok, will be a monumental thing IMHO.
(hink of them as the sanctimonious side of good, who in their eyes because god said itks ok unthinkingly follow orders. "White not white enough!" style.
If I'm wrong great but sadly I don't think I or Lucius are, but we'll check smile.gif.

Thanks Milly, that's what I was after. Although a funny thing about orders, I have found, is that whether you follow them unthinkingly or not, the people in charge really expect you to follow them, so a lot of the time thinking doesn't help. A fuller knowledge of the facts is like a fuller knowledge of the numbers, just a bit depressing. That's in general, not a moral sense, though, and I'm being slightly flippant before someone gets uppity.

So, not much chance of talking to them, can give it a pop, but expect them to want to kick our faces in and heal themselves whilst doing it then. Fair enough.

Agreed on orders, but they are very different when issued by a not actually present existential thieving godling, intent on basically encouraging war for fun.
Fingers crossed I've got it wrong and they're lovely!

Broadly the objective is to kill Reesha and put someone else in charge.
While Reesha is alive they won't bend, break, convert or change. Once she (I think it's a She, they've all got feathers and I'm not into animals) is removed then we have a chance to talk to them.

We have taken every step we can to ensure that we have to kill as few "good guys" as we have to, but some people will die who we'd probably prefer saving but that's the way of the world sometimes.

Or you could just rely on the fact every time someone from their has spoken about "her" they know "she's" a "girl" tongue.gif

No offence, but if this is getting into a fight about the gender of otherworldly bird-gods, I'm going to go see what horrible danger I'm being punished with this afternoon and leave you to it until tomorrow.

A little bit more information this conversation reminded me about....

The bird people have saints. I understand there are very few but they are key in the whole story of what is going on. The first bird creature to rise to sainthood was the one that taught them all to fly.
Then this sainted bird worked with another birdman to trap the horrific killer thing in the cave with eyes (behind the 3 rituals, one of which we broke). In return of this, the bird people sainted the second bird.

It turns out, the second bird was only doing all the "good" stuff in order to get sainted and was in fact a right evil git. Once sainted it either caused the souls of bird people to stop flying so they can't go to heaven or the actual bird people to stop flying - not sure and this is one of the key issues with this place - the fact one of their saints is actually a git

I am sure a lot of this is wrong but some grains in here are true
Might help

Thalion
PS I can't be there tomorrow as Tai needs his laundry doing and after that I am out canvassing for new members to join the Church
