Jeremy was idly playing in the docks, running up and down with a rather tatty kite that refused to take off. The lack of wind probably didn't help, but then... Jeremy was never the smartest of kids. The fading red and green material was acquiring a lovely new shade of brown as he dragged the kite through the mud, but he was not to be deterred by a little problem like that.
Some other children watched, laughing. The usual sort, packs of feral nastiness cheering the others on to be just as horrible as they can be. It wasn't long before they had worked themselves up into enough of an obnoxious frenzy that one was shoved forward. Taking what passes for initiative, the young lad grabbed the muddy kite and heaved it into the murky water of the docks. "Thought I'd clean it for you, moron" the boy squeaked, to the cackling laughter of his peers. Wiping his face with a dirty sleeve, Jeremy dashed down to the water and began pulling his toy back to him. He was surprised at how much resistance it was putting up as he tugged the rope through the water. The jeers of the other boys rang in his ears, and tears stung his eyes. Wiping his face once more he looked down into the pale, lifeless face of what might be recognised as a priest, her white tabard stained with mud, the golden sun emblazoned across the front torn and bloody. The kite rope had caught around her neck. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "We keep finding bodies Sergeant..." Private Dugtan looked exhausted. He'd been working all hours of the day following the problems of the weekend. His Sergeant, Leslin, appeared equally tired. "What does that bring the total to now Private?" She asked, clearly dreading the answer. "Err, sixteen priests from an as yet unidentified goodly church. Those were in the water, bodies just dumped. Very careless. A smattering of Kallah... they're pretty pissed tell you the truth Ma'am. There was a Mortai Priest, that's going to be an awkward conversation. A collection of random peons, no discernible pattern. And a couple of our patrols. The families have been informed." Leslin frowned. This was not a good week. "The Lizard, what of that?" "It hasn't been seen since it escaped back under the city. There's a lot of fear on the streets Ma'am". Dugtan wiped his brow. "I'd better get back out there, these murders were so poorly hidden it wont be long before the next body crops up. And if people keep going on about that snake, we'll have a panic on our hands." The Private saluted and dashed out of the building. Leslin sighed and took a drink. No, this was not a good week at all... -------------------- Will Power - will@labyrinthe.co.uk

Rumours continue to expand from these grizzly murders. Depending on who you ask, you might think the city was being invaded...
Goblin Pirates were to blame one minute, Ishmaics on a failed trading visit the next. Barronial Demons, Smugglers... well, it's not really surprising that much of the population had taken to hiding indoors. And just to cap it off, strange, unfamiliar lizard creatures were seen stalking the streets, but thankfully were dispatched and skinned by a group of concerned Orcs, clearly looking to protect the peons from these monsters. On a lighter note though, a group of Mercenaries were noted to have been touring the city last Thursday celebrating for a bachelor party. Whether this was a good or bad thing, and whether this helped people feel safer is less than clear... -------------------- Will Power - will@labyrinthe.co.uk
