Richard, It is important for you to realise that nobody is attacking you. Game systems change with the requirements of its players and the perception lately is that avatars make the game worse. Nobody mentioned Rangar until you made it about your character and Will even admitted that he was cheeky with bad wording which gave his character an unfair advantage. This thread is about what is best for the club and the fact that the owner and system manager cannot find a solution shows how difficult it is. I like the suggestion that avatars cannot be played on open dungeons, I think that solves everything James, Not an issue, I never thought anyone was specifically attacking me, however I was trying to use my own personal experience to explain why I don't think they are bad. I stand by the fact I think its a perception rather than an actual problem and that there are things that are much more unbalanced in the game. Anyway I have probably said far too much on the subject, so I will leave it there. Thanks Richard -------------------- Richard Eden (Possibly human maybe a vampire)

Not sure if this has been said?
I think if they stay they should be standardised - perhaps a post 10k mc? with some hard restrictions ie - no apps etc. my 2 pennies. R |

Never had one, probably never will.
It's a high end thing that occasionally walks into my gaming life. Ultimately I don't really care what people play, that said I'd like people to play lower level dungeons as that's where I'm at. If people need to use an avatar to do so then that's unfortunate but ok as long as the dungeon runs. I'd rather see people starting new characters than using an avatar, I like growing with other characters not playing with a one hit wonder. Really like any idea that encourages people to crew, avatar only for crew is restrictive but I like the idea. -------------------- "A soldier's first battlefield is always his own mind"

I've had two different 'Avatar's' over the years and only ever played one.
- Aurora - the "using your rebirth" model for Nex' - a new linked character, separate card, res chance and so on, standard base with a class/race change ability that cost points and I had to buy which set up what I was (which was essentially the angel from my guardian angel m/r for the main char). The only benefit I got was starting at 1k and being able to know the other character/share memories. No item cross over or anything like that; basically just a rebirth in all ways other than the main char still existing. Was well before cps/wps and that stuff. Main char was limited to 4 events/year and only guild specials/special events on purchasing the 'avatar' ability. I think is probably the best approach. You get to start again as a new character, without an unbalancing rebirth and with the option to play the big character a few times on specific events, and have some cool shared memories/linked background. As it happens my linked chars grew apart and ended up considering each other a pain in the ****, which just added to the fun... so much so (and with a horde of LoTS 4-days) that Aurora is over 10k as well. - Mallerstang's Avatars - max 1/4 of my points, have to be priests, human & in the same guilds, full flexi-spend, main char looses 10% if they die, can buy a buffer for 500 avatar points. Dungeon points are on a different card as avatar points that can be used as monster points for the main char. No mention of cps/wps so would assume not. I've never yet played it because in honesty I could never get motivated to play it without some kind of progression/new cool thing to buy and I have a ton of chars at various levels, so just played other things. And frankly could never be bothered to spend time working out spends for it. I'd happily lose it. I think broadly, "use your rebirth" is a better approach overall and if not then the keep your spend, just at lower points and full risk/reward, no buffers. Lower stuff is generally more dangerous as you haven't bulletproofed your spend anyway. I've been a bit out of touch with what's been happening of late r.e. cps/wps/monster points and so on so can't really comment. I'd voted "fine as is", then read the thread and clearly there's some discontent which probably implies some need for change. I also like the 4 times/year add on for the main character, as it means you have to think a bit more about when you show up or don't. There has to be good IC/roleplay reasons to get out of bed vs just an endless grind for more points. Huw |
