So disguises have typically been something I’ve avoided, I had one that got outed after a few years which is fair enough.

I wondered how other people go about disguises? I see some people that can be anything, become anyone etc and don’t have to layer makeup and the like. (I wasn’t putting base makeup on and stacking on top)

So what do you do? What things make your disguises more believable and in what scenarios do you use them?

Only the good die young.

I have spent a lot of time working on disguise base stuff but in the end it does not work as OOC people sneak look at your card or apps and then it no longer matters anymore.

I did feel that having unique skills, full background props etc worked

Best one I have is as Arnold. I have three different Arnolds who are all different ages. It works because he doesnt know and he doesnt care. I dont think disguise is a useful skill otherwise. Its used for PVP and requires the generic "You have to turn your back on the monster with her hand in the air" agreement to be used at all.

I think they work better at lower levels when players don’t all know each other’s characters. As always, they are as good as you make them. It isn’t just a different base colour, it is the story and background. No point disguising yourself as an elf and having a spirit etc.

You can get away with a good disguise without spending loads of points but ultimately, if you want to have fun being something new and part of a story that only you are in on, you probably need to pay some points on info immunities and deception type abilities.

I have a character that has only ever been played as his true self once or twice.... every other time it is one of many different cover disguises....

Having access to various types of abilities helps to demonstrate that your cover is true... playing with different people... making ic friends as your persona etc....

I like playing the toon in question but it is all about not thinking about it too much and not drawing attention either ic or ooc

I'm afraid I agree with Sam, the only people that disguises work on are those people who are willing to be complicit in the game with the only person that I know to be the expert at it goes to great lengths to open people's complicity

Regarding the base makeup issue, I think that is the most ridiculous rule that the system has ever ignored. A master of disguise is better at this than the player who is smearing snazz on

You're more likely to get to a point where you can maintain your hand up through the entire day than having a working disguise that doesn't get outed

I have to agree with John and Sam here, pointless as ooc
info tends to muddy the water, shall we say...
Wow looking at someone’s apps or card without permission
Is low, very low...I am quite shocked someone would do that.

My experiences.
I have a character that has spent a lot of points on designing and being immune to coms/info.
I tend to just be honest ooc about what I'm playing then if people decide to cheet that is there choice.
I wont let others cheeting define my game smile.gif
