QUOTE(DavidFisher @ Aug 22 2011, 06:32 PM) *
I presume by this you mean you support him taking on the mantle, becoming a creature of evil and then seeking to thwart his dark plans going forward? This is not meant o be a comical statement.

It appears there must be a dark valar so allowing Evensong to take on the mantle and then slaining him for being evil does not serve our needs. He must be allowed to take on the mantle and then allowed to exist. If he exists, he does evil and therefore we would stand against him.

Is this the path we are chosing?

Joshua

Slaying him would surely free the power again, wasting his sacrifice.

The dark power always frees itself eventually - that is its nature.

You're right, of course, but then for the same reason, the power will not go from the world, it will arise somewhere, eventually. When the Enemy was destroyed by the Church many thought that the battle was over, that we had won, but it took mere months for another to rise. It will not go away, it will return. Better, I say, that we choose where and how.

The sad truth is that we lost the war in the instant it began, when Evil entered the world. Since then we have been merely trying to win all of the battles. If we can contain this enemy and prevent it growing to power out of our sight, then I say we should do so.

With the best will in the world, Thomas and Falorn are but mortals, vessels for power not their own. In time, they will pass. By the will of my Creator, I am immortal and unceasing and will exist until the ending of the world. If I take this thing within myself and then myself am trapped, enchained, then another battle has been won.

Evensong

This I can see being the only option available which brings the least harm and suffering to Our Lady, the Valar and innocent people.

I would offer myself for the task that Evensong had so bravely offered to do.

We will NEVER stop the Evil in this world completely. We WILL always be fighting the darkness that tries to take hold of the shard of power that has been left over from previous times. The only way is for us is to take hold of it ourselves, in the hands of someone that we trust so that no one can oppose us with the power of it.

I will not be travelling with the Church anytime soon, (which pains me deeply), due to personal responsiblities. I do wish however the very best to all those that are venturing to cease these troubles that cause us no end of argument between us. In Basil I trust. Once he has listened and heard all views I am safe in the knowledge that he will decide what is best for the Church to do. May the Lady guide him well.

In Starlight

Mattie.

Should it be decided that Evensong, or any other, take up the mantle - what would be the consequences to them ?

Are they going to suffer an eternity of torment and suffering ? Are they going to be faced with constant battling of wills against the darkness rising within them ? Are they going to be able to use the dark powers for to protect the innocent ?Are they going to have to use them, for good or ill, simply to not be consumed by them ? At some point, is it likely that they will have to be dealt with?

Personally, Willingly accepted or not - I would rather a child of light, and a friend, is NOT put through any suffering or Torment.

If the Darkness is going to consume them slowly over the ages - I would rather not at any time, near or far into the future - have to slay one I once called Friend.

The Darkness will continue - for we are but stars shining light in the curtain of night. To Believe one can remove it entirely is folly - to keep it in check, and to protect those unable to protect themselves from it - is, I believe, our best, and only, course of action.

This Christian wishes to use the power of the valar for his own nefarious ends. Is it not He who should be removed from the equation ? Is it really not so simple as that ? The Church purified Valesius and set him upon his path of redemption. A Battle Won. The war is ever going. But if a battle so grand as to turn someone from the path of destruction - to a path of light - can be achieved. Why put someone on a path to darkness ? Let us keep fighting the good fight. Let us redeem or cleanse Christian - and whoever succeeds him.

Yes this will mean the fight continues ever more. But it always will - and at least we won't be putting a friend, a champion of light, to the sword.

I sorry if I speak out of turn, but I dont want Evensong or anyone else, in eternal torment. Even if it is considered for the right reasons.

Lerafil,
Sorrow.

Christian isn't trying to make himself into a god. I wonder why? Most people like that want the power, but he's chosen someone else for that, and he's not altogether confident about his choice. We should find out who that is, but its shielded, so thats tricky.

Maxinder Hylos had a similar approach, as I recall. Is it possible that Christian has similar views?

He may, genuinely, believe what he is saying about this being the 'right path' and the only way to defend people, and so forth. Being wrong does not necessarily mean he is not sincere.

Following up some information from our last muster I have discovered the location of a disused and looted shrine to Aule. It is a place of some ritual significance. Is there a priest or follower of the Valar who would be able to reconsecrate the shrine? If nothing else it may help to strengthen Aule and help us in the struggle ahead.

Did you say Looted?

Just my area of expertise like. I'll go check it's been looted properly re-consecrate it and make sure its all proper again.

Most gods can't interact directly in the work of mortals. The more powerful the god the less interaction. The high priest / chosen champion of that god though can do what the hell he likes, especially if he is the one responsible for his gods lofty position.

Why sit on the throne when you can instead stand behind it and spend the Kings money?

Forgive me if I speak out of turn,
in light of recent events, is this not a portent as to who "should" be the "dark valar" maybe with "correct education"?

Just thinking through thoughts,
this man(?) Aramis is he not just what we need?
If we are destined to have a "dark valar" then surely someone who was directly involved with the fabric of primus would be a good start and could we not educate him before his power comes to fruition, thus healing the imperial schism and guaranteeing awareness of an evil, keep your friends close..

Ommh, I appreciate the efforts to try to offer suggestions - I think you have the wrong end of the stick here and the situation you are referring to is a very sensitive one. Probably best to let that point lie.
