Hey all,
Browsing through the Baronies book, I can't actually find any specific information for costume and roleplay - all I know is what I've heard from people, that it has to be some sort of German accent
So I was wondering if any kind soul could enlighten me on:
-The accent
-The costume
-If the same rules apply to Hedge
-If they apply to faeries
-Where I can find such info in the book
-If there's anything else important I should be knowing
Much thanks,
Joss
A lot of the Baronies is considered middle European medieval,
Go team baronies!! Whoooo
Will be picking my character up tomorrow and I think it's a safe bet that I'm going to need to know this too. Specifically it's the guilds that I'm not sure about, who's allowed to join what?
Also some information on the history and relationship between the circle and hedge would be awesome. Is there a sourcebook for the baronies like there is for ishma? And if so is it currently available at the desk?
The Dominion of the Circle is the book you are looking for.
The Baronies are Middle Europe so thing HRE, Romania, Hungary etc during the dark to middle ages.
The Circle is the supernatural centre of the Baronies that leads the war against the Foe the Demons of the south. If you have supernatural power you have to be a member of the circle otherwise you are hedge. If you are hedge you are hunted down as an outlaw in their lands.
Simple reason is that the circle view those not trained correctly a danger.
The baronies is not a nice or safe place in anyway. The barons rule through might they are in a state of constant war with the Foe, fey or the nacht that regular causes them problems.
The accents have typically been German to slavic of those who have played them.
Well considering in 3 weeks we're having a small influx of low level hedge characters I'm sure a hedge guild start up could be arranged if everyone likes their characters our party gels and everyone survives.
Two Ggrutuck, a Duidoin and a Faery. Yeah, gel's the word...
are they still at war with mob from the desert ???

Technically I think

From MM...
"Baronial Characters
All Baronial characters must maintain an appropriate accent, costume and behaviour at all times. Any found not doing so will, at the least, be stripped of all Baronial benefits but retain all racial disadvantages. Referees please inform the desk of any who fail to fulfil these requirements. Accents and voices should resemble that appropriate to the role-play environment – typically based on Eastern European and Germanic. NOTE: Baronial Characters means characters thatare Baronial- this includes the relevent demon types."
Therefore Faeries from the Baronies must also subscribe as must Ggrutuck, Blauz etc.
On a side note, contrary to what Peter said you can join both Claws and Kreisbruderschaft on table 1 but can only battleboard the benefits of one of the two guilds until you buy advanced tier Kris.
Hope this help. If any of your new hedge characters fancy doing a Kreisbruderschaft or Claws guild special any time soon let me know
Matt
I'm just waiting for the accent of accents.... 'Conan the Barbarian meets the Swedish Chef'
It's a concept..
(From the woman who currently has no voice... )
I'm desperately trying to work out how to sound Germanic without sounding enormously muscular. Any tips? My best efforts so far are still just sounding like Arnie on helium...
You could always go the eastern european route similar to Alexander the Meerkat or the 'Allo 'Allo German route.
Seen both used on Kreisburgershaft and Claws dungeons.
Alan.
EDIT - Kreisbruderschaft even.... Can only blame fact I put burger in there on the fact I am currently eating my lunch
Aleksandr hadn't occurred to me as an archetype... could work, but someone will surely kill me for saying "Simples!"
http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Do-a-Credible-German-Accent&id=3845978 seems quite good, though.
I'm probably going to be quite Russian sounding.
Thinking about it, you could probably get away with anything between German and Russian, including Austrian, Polish or even the Transylvanian accent if you want.
Indeed if you look at Russian history they are a very brutual lot based around city states. Moscow is actually a very modern and purpose built city.
Of course any dodgy or insulting accents will be referred to the KGB. I have contacts.
Ben - pick an accent where the words 'neuronic penetration' roll off the tongue nicely. I just tried saying it in German accent and it was a little bit difficult.
All silly accents aside, can anyone give me a brief overview of what's going on in the Baronies at the moment, or point me to where I can find one? I've read the book cover to cover, but it occurred to me that that's all ten years ago and there's been some pretty serious stuff going on down there since then, and I'm not as hot on current events as I'd like to be!
Dutch accent
Job done.
Recent Updates on the Baronies...
As it is the new year the Circle will announce its new 7 ruling memebers.
The most activity appears to be crushing the Spiter in the Sunless lands.
I will happily share my most recent turn from HotE about the Baronies to anyone interested.
yes pls send over mate...

The Seven this year is the same as last due to lack of HotE turns
That means it is me as Jonas and um..... I would need to refer to my turns but Leomacht (The Drachuel) Bom the Dwarf and 4 others.
I Think I am right in saying Alamaign is not on the Seven at the moment and I have Cael's seat.
War continues against The Spiter. Rumour has it he has near run out of living troops and that his army relied on summonations and flesh crafting.
As the other have said - it is basically a dark, dingy, oppressive place to live - The strong lead and the weak die.
