As people will have seen the waiting time for rebirths has been removed. Since this has happened I thought it was time to put everything up so it’s official.

Rebirths
Rebirths will be processed as quickly as we can. In general assume 2 weeks as that’s not an unreasonable turn around. This will be delayed if the ref takes time sending bits in, or if it’s a very big rebirth as it needs time to work stuff out.

ISP for rebirths is calculated as 10isp per full thousand points a character is post 8th until they reach 10,000 points.
Characters over 10,000 points gain an additional 10isp per full 5000 points they are.
The Crypt CP offers a bonus as published.
If an Obituary is written, and submitted for publishing in the Almanac, then this will add 10isp to the rebirth. This should be emailed to lee@labyrinthe.co.uk. The intention to write an obituary needs to be emailed within a couple of days and the obituary itself within a week of the death.

A character cannot have a rebirth of more than 150isp.

It is permissible for a player to say the theme they would like their rebirth to be, it is not acceptable to ask for specific stats.

If a character does not have rebirth then they cannot gain a rebirth, perm death is just that perm death.

Reincarnations
The active choice to rebirth a character without perm dying on dungeon. When reincarnating you are effectively trading in a current character and getting a new one. The new character does not retain the old characters memories, and all of the old characters equipment must be handed in at the desk. There are three types of reincarnation.

As a new standard character – If you chose to reincarnate as a new published character class/race combination then you return at a percentage of your points listed below.
This can be dealt with at the desk, by desk staff. The characters card and equipment must be handed in.

Current Points % of current points returned at
Below 1000 points 10%
1001-2999 30%
3000-5249 40%
5250-7499 50%
7500+ 60%

As a non-standard class/race combination – This is choosing to reincarnate as a non-standard class/race combination. This should be dealt with via a points request. Once processed the new card can be issued by the Desk with the player handing in their old card and equipment.
The characters returns at a new points as follows:

Current Points % of current points returned at
Below 1000 points Cannot be done
1001-2999 20%
3000-5249 30%
5250-7499 40%
7500+ 50%

As a rebirth – This method is again dealt with by points app. The player should submit a rough idea of what they want their new character to be like. They will generally receive approximately 75% of the ISP they would receive if they died on dungeon, and do not gain the benefits of a crypt or obituary.
Once the ability is processed the player can hand the character and equipment into the desk and the card will be processed.
Characters using this return at:

Current Points % of current points returned at
Below 1000 points Cannot be done
1001-2999 0%
3000-5249 10%
5250-7499 20%
7500+ 30%

It is, when using any method of reincarnation, possible to choose to return at a lower numbers of points than they can be (the same is true for rebirths).

It is not possible to reincarnate and merge multiple characters into one. One rebirth/reincarnation per character.

So a character without any of the rebirth / enhanced rebirth / survival abilities gets to keep more of their points by reincarnating than if they had actually died? That seems a little odd.

C

Because to keep more points you give up your non-standard rebirth.

Is it possible to confirm where the Crypt CC might be found?

Can you write your own obituary? (May sound strange but the alternative is me writing something and asking a friend to email it to you or them writing something that will undoubtedly be full of mistakes and comedy)

Cheers

David

The Almanac, and providing it makes sense (or is just plain funny) yes.

Is there going to be any cap on this at all, or can people play 200 ISP monstrosities on open 250s?

On the issue of rebirths, can we now assume that they are now the norm rather than the exception?

Further, I have noticed that people have been receiving non-standard rebirths at below 1,000 points (which under the previous GSM was ruled could not be the case). Can we assume that with an obituary/crypt it is now possible to acquire a non-standard rebirth if you perm below 1,000 points?

On a final note is there a reason that the percentile increases as you acquire more points? I know this is just mirroring the existing rebirth abilities and the way in which they work but is there a reason for this? Percentiles by their very nature give a staggered return for people with more points. Would it not be easier just to have a flat rate of return on points?

Thanks for clarifying all of this though,

Matt

It is normal for all rebirths to be tabled in some way. So they are not monsters on open 250, for example Druid fighter
As 1st class Druid and gains a level of warrior per table reached between table 3 and 10.

So is there such a thing as a Myths rebirth?

Not as such, you get a rebirth as normal accounting for how points you would have earned up to that point. So on a 750 myths if you perm after night one you'll be 1k so get a rebirth.

Why has it been removed that you can add multiple characters into a reincarnation?

It was never official that you could. It also creates a lot of issues (playing up multiple tough characters reincarnating into one character and buying a tough race as one example).

This is totally unaffected by how much vitae you have left, right?

So you could have a 2000 points character with 0% vitae and reincarnate to 600 points with 100% vitae, or you could have a 2000 points character with 100% vitae and also reincarnate to 600 points with 100% vitae?

Wouldn't it be fairer to up the percentages a bit but then multiply by your vitae? More complicated I know but it's done off-dungeon so you can use a calculator... in fact you're probably using a calculator anyway...

I presume these revised rules will also be applied to current monstrosities that may not (or at least appear not to) fall in line with them?

Enhanced Rebirth is the pre-req for Survival of an Adventurer, so if you want to buy up the "Keep X% of your points" on the normal rebirth route you are going to need it.

My experience of such things is that the reality is very different from the boast smile.gif

Always take word from the rumour mill with a pinch of salt, and generally have faith until you've seen it in blue and black tongue.gif

Also, see post about Druid/Fighter above! Think that method solves a wealth of problems.

No, Martin is totally right. ( and you're coming over a little patronising by the way...)

There are rebirths that have slipped through without a modifier. To be honest, 1 level of a multi class per table doesn't help. Because, at t8, let's say that free class is Priest or wizard... Hey presto you're 1000 points higher than anyone else on a max 1000. That's double everyone else's points. Then throw in the free 700 point multirace, ogre life and dwarf locs, the free spheres and colours and the wealth of a previously high points character and it is unbalanced.

I would like to see less of, and in fact get rid of the format of rebirths. They are just getting boring and are unbalanced. Stop with the two first classes, the free multirace, and go back to the days where you had an extra couple of stat increases, a few cool, interesting and relevant innates and nice interesting bits.

Two things our GSMs have shared for many years are a clear view of the system and a willingness to defend it. I'm sure that if you have a specific concern and send an email to Lee (or Duncan if it's about Lee), then he'll have a look and take whatever steps are necessary to ensure things are fair.

A perception of unfairness can get pretty toxic, and it's important to be clear that if there is anything to the rumour it will be dealt with.

Guys,

I'll be honest while debate is good having to approve every post to be seen isn't. So if you want to debate it then please start a thread on the ooc board bit.

I'm going to close this topic not to shut people up but to stop more posts needing approval.

Thanks
