There was some rumour of mercenary activity in the area over the weekend, but the villagers were largely unconcerned. They were more upset about the untimely death of one of their own, Jonathon Stolbridge. A fine young man, a promising cow herder with a bright future ahead of him, struck down swiftly by a mysterious disease that came and left, taking with it his life, in a matter of hours.
Distraught, his friends returned, reporting that some of the mercenaries had seemed particularly concerned and tried to stop them leaving, but there was to be none of that. A funeral was to be held, and memories shared. But on Wednesday morning they awoke to find their comfortable town surrounded. A unit of Imperial looking soldiers, many armed with bows, had arranged themselves about 100 meters outside the boundaries, a solid formation barring any entry or exit. They bore no notable insignia, and did not communicate with anyone. Lord Trudgebill was seen carried from his buildings by his staff towards the soldiers. As they approached, bows were raised and the group stopped. A soldier, who looked to be a captain of some sort, came forward and ordered them group to turn around and head back to their houses. He announced that the village was under quarantine and that anyone attempting to leave would be dealt with. That they were trying to find a solution. That they couldn't tell them anything else. Confused and now scared, the villagers gathered in central places, discussing what was going on. What could the problem possibly be? However, later that evening... a young girl, the one who had been with Jonathon... fell ill. -------------------- Will Power - will@labyrinthe.co.uk
