As if matters were not bad enough, a group of people loyal to the Dark Phoenix and local to the city were able to set up a ritual with a potentially devastating purpose.
The Nightsoil would be controlled and forced into acts that would cause them to become outlawed within the Empire and thus die without being reborn.
Thankfully this was disturbed and stopped by the Mercenaries, and the Nightsoil were kept safe from this corruption.
