So I was listening to some epic soundtrack on my way home the other day and was thinking about the important use of music in films etc in building atmosphere and helping full immersion.
Anyone got any best moments of Laby to share that involved music? What was it and how was it done? Any thoughts on how we could make more of this? Dave |

so back in the day the unnerving strains of diamanda galas usually screaming women with steak knives and the smoke machine generally meant something bad was about to happen.....

I haven't experienced music being used yet but it's something I'm keen to explore as a ref.
I think it could work really well. -------------------- Stacey

I'd definitely advocate more music.
Enjoyed a defender on Sean C's campaign in a cathedral being attacked by undead with lots of background screams etc, definitely adds to the atmosphere and doesn't take much effort in these new fangled days on the internet and downloads. Ben |

I remember monstering for Tim Andrews and Paul Adams and they ran a gladiator combat section where they used the music from Mortal Kombat. I recall playing in an another system (similarish rules) a couple of characters played bard types - one played the guitar and his miracle duration lasted as long as he kept playing. I've seen a couple of players in games where they have characters who have their own theme music as they walk along. Several refs have used sound effects to set a theme - eg. frogs croaking and marsh type sounds. Rebecca plays an opera singer in another game - basically you get power back from listening to her performances (and very good they are too). My Bronze wizard had an innate of sing-a-long-death - 1 mana off the cost for everyone who joined in if I sang Words of Death. There are lots of ways I think to use music in lrp - possibly you need to be a bit careful with instruments in cramped cave conditions - but this didn't stop Benson setting a flute that had to be played on a Final Dawn a couple fo years ago . Anyway there's a few

I've made use of sound tracks for background noise before, angelic singing, market noises and swamps.
I might have been working out how to make breadboard mp3 players to embedded inside various objects recently for a few ideas -------------------- |

Anyone got any best moments of Laby to share that involved music? What was it and how was it done? Any thoughts on how we could make more of this? Dave I love using music! I use it quite often for events - I think it really improves the atmosphere of an event. I have hundreds of tracks if anyone ever wants to use them. I have some nice tavern music, spooky ghost sounds, all sorts. On Henry and I’s first myths, the bad guys each had their own sound. So the ‘war’ faction were drums, the ‘discord’ faction were bells etc. So when the party woke up one morning to a bell, they associated it with a particular bad guy. On my first scriptor 3 day, time in was at night, in a dark room, with only candlelight and music playing in the background. Monsters were hidden in the rooms, who were briefed to just start making sounds, banging on doors etc at a random point a few minutes within time in. Love it. Kat once set some jaws music on a shadow legion guild special - that worked well! |

One guy that used to ref for would always stick the Hellraiser Soundtrack on and light a few smoke pellets for the ‘Big Boss’ at the end of an adventure.
Still sends shivers down my spine whenever I here it. -------------------- Cheers,

When we've played the Camarilla Invictus games down there in the Tavern we've utilised music, mostly "medieval bar music" but we also used a healthy amount of pirate metal for a couple of events as well
It definitely adds to the character of the tavern -------------------- ~~~

I play a character who plays a wooden flute, but I don't always find a good time to play it!

Live singing is just simply amazing, really brings a group together.
Think I have only ever seen one person do it at Laby which is a shame. -------------------- Marcos

I've got a whole song book somewhere
With greats such as "I took a Hire in Deci" and "The Hero of Janderburg" They were print outs so I must have got them somewhere, I think Carlo might be the culprit -------------------- |

Stuart wrote ‘I took a hire’ among a few others, tiffer wrote the hero of janderburg, and collectively on a myths we wrote the prophets of danger. Rebecca has written some lovely stuff too. I have points apps as Bradley based on songs too. I love them |
