hi Guys need some help !!!


what type of trolls are there out there? apart from "rock", have any of you had other types past and type of stuff did you go for pls ????

Realm of Glass talks about 3 types

Mystic or Curious Trolls - the bridge warden types, often quite amiable
Feral or Cunning Trolls - primitive predators, live in the wilds, like eating people
War Trolls - deliberately bred by evil wizard types or similar, the sort you find acting as champions for evil armies or regiments of orcs

The baronies book also talks about Marsh Trolls that are associate with mist.

For the mystic type, ask Jan - he had loads of unusual stuff for 'Troll'

The classic points app for the war troll is 'has metal plates hammered into skin - gains innate pac equal to the phys rep worn, but this becomes part of them, indestructable'
As monsters I've seen them set as having huge amounts of innate PAC eg: Innate PAC 24 - 12 is from rocky hide and is immune to accuracy, 12 is from the metal plates hammered in - accuracy or thru damage works vs this part. So they bounce quad unless you have a sharpened or pure weapon. I imagine there's mileage in a perm damage reduction from having innate PAC over max AC become a numerical.

Perry, Gary and Klaus had half troll half ogre types. These were very tough, stupidly so, cant remember what they called themselves but can find out and has opportunities for you.

I had passed at some point a Troll by day Wraith by night. The idea was that I was the pet of a Destroyer Priest war troll who had a wraith inside him that did the controlling, at night became more the undead and intelligent and got spiritual stuff less fighty. By day was more war troll. Obviously was a myths idea to play with Redman that never happened. Will try and dig it out if your interested.

Bred for War
Available to Half Trolls who are ‘War Trolls’ Cost XXXXXX Table 1
This must be the first ability bought post eighth. If other abilities have been selected which must also be the first ability bought post eighth, then all must be purchased simultaneously, as long as they are not exclusive to each other. In order to be eligible to purchase this ability the Half Troll must have had ‘War’ written on his or her character card at 1st level as a prefix to the race ‘Half Troll’. The character may not have belonged or join a tribe which has any species other than ‘War’ Half Trolls in it.
The Characters base life points are treated as though the character was a Half Ogre of the equivelent class.
The Character MUST purchase the ability ‘Brutish’ (as per Brute on the Tables)as the first ability bought after buying ‘Bred for War’, costing 50 points. There are not likely to be many shaman or witchdoctors who are War Trolls.

Bred to Hunt
Available to Half Trolls who are ‘Feral Trolls’ Cost XXXXXX Table 1
This must be the first ability bought post eighth. If other abilities have been selected which must also be the first ability bought post eighth, then all must be purchased simultaneously, as long as they are not exclusive to each other. In order to be elligable to purchase this ability the Half Troll must have had ‘Feral’ written on his or her character card at 1st level as a prefix to the race ‘Half Troll’. The character may not have belonged or join a tribe. The character may not also select Bred for War or Bred to Serve as abilities.
A Feral troll gains the pathfinder skills of tracking, discern smell (sniff) and locational sniff
The character MUST purchase the ability ‘Paranoia’ as the first ability bought after buying ‘Bred to Hunt’. Again few Feral Trolls are shaman and witchdoctors due to the inability to belong to a tribe.

Bred to Serve
Available to Half Trolls who are ‘Curious Trolls’ Cost XXXXXX Table 1
This must be the first ability bought post eighth. A Curious Troll can spend 5 minutes staking out a distinctive ‘territory’ like a doorway, a bridge or a section of road, which does not already have a guardian. Such a territory must be something which sentient creatures would use to travel from one point to another, so could include mystical gates or transportation circles, not that the half Troll would necessarily understand how to cause it to function without specific training. Whilst ‘defending’ the territory the Troll gains a 25% damage reduction as per cold rage. If those who seek to cross offer a toll of around 10 grulls per person the Half Troll will let them pass unmolested.

Curious Trolls are closely associated with Oll, of Uk and Oll fame.
Some Curious Trolls are bridge trolls, and one tribe of bridge trolls are the Bridgewardens, of which my Troll (imaginatively named 'Troll' is the leader.

The Bridgewardens follow a human like figure called various names including 'The Stranger', 'The Roadsmith' and 'The Tinker'. And we venerate the concept of roads, rivers and bridges (which are where earth roads cross over water roads). As a result of this I have had passed a considerable amount of travel type abilities including a very ref friendly 'mass teleport' at will ability (though realistically it only gets us to where the ref wants us to get to).

Troll also has a Primalist multiclass which reflects Oll's part in Primal development, and includes things like banishment, appeasing wounds on Primus, gaining human intelligence briefly in order to actually speak to people in a tongue that more than just BBB or Stuart Maggs can follow, or other sort of weird new age style mystic vision abilities. its pretty personalised to be honest and reflects Troll's time as a variety of classes over the last 20 years or so.

As a Curious Troll MR, regen spirit damage at half rate, innate PAC counts as MAC and SAC for blows/ touch effects, regen from death, and rather juicily - he creates enhanced connections for goodly and neutral shamans on the adventure so they are closer to their god, meaning they count as his shaman, he grants them power etc.

As a 'Hooded Traveller' (post MR Curious Troll) I cannot lose a path i am on, get whacky tracking powers whilst on a road, is ignored when travelling alone unless he interacts with other travellers. This was intended to be the 'Mystic Troll' ranger type class.

Skins worn merge with Trolls flesh and so become innate PAC.

Regen rates are 36pts if not moving around, 18pts if doing active stuff, locs to match.

In hindsight, Troll is far too much like Sigurd. I hadn't realised it before but i guess that tells me something about what escapism means for me!

... it's probably brown, yeah I know. I think it's something to do with liking natural colours. which means brown in some shade.

I have "black troll" passed

May not regen in direct strong sunlight or magical light
Is not tribal
May not regen light based damage in addition to spirit, perm, fire
Must be evil

Gains 1/2 innates of a dark elf (so 4 affirms, 2 darkness,1 shadowshift)
May upgrade to full innates and buy as dark elf for 100 points on T8

T1 60 points

The idea was go go shadow demon. This base race change costs 60 points and the cost of shadow demon is 60 points cheaper if you are a black mana user so effecively free (with some disbenefits). Not being tribal gets you round the restriction on shadow demon.
It also gives you double and triple innates plus additional shifts and see through darkness cheaper (if you wait to T8 to buy as full elf) - although this costs 100 points, I thought it was well worth it.

Never played the character (an evil crusading priest troll) because I decided I had a troll already

Just wondering which book Trolls are in, is it Realm of Glass? I seem to remember that they used to be in a supplement, and that they might have been restricted? could be totally wrong about that though.

The hint is in the very first line of Mr Lilley's Post:

The final version of Realm of Glass had various cool concepts but the stats were dropped for being "too specialist", "niche" or considered not worth adding to standard system*. Which is a very different outlook to now adays with lots of new stuff being published regularly in the Almanac.

You could always apply for any one of those that take your fancy.

*Noble by Vision being one of those cool concepts that never made the final cut, the idea that Psionicists are a specialise subset of Nobles of the Blood and thus the Imperial Seers are a form of Noble.
